Obama family talks campaign life

(CNN) - Whether or not their dad becomes the next president of the United States, the Obama kids are already winners - of a dog, that is.

In an interview with the entire Obama family to air later Tuesday, Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, told Access Hollywood their famous mom and dad promised to buy a dog after the rigorous campaign season comes to an end.

"Win or lose, win or lose," the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee said.

In the interview, Malia also said she often gives her dad campaign tips on how to reach out to young people her age.

"You really don't shake kids’ hands that much, you shake adult hands," she said. “And I say you just wave and say hi, so I do that kind of stuff."

What's it like to have parents in the spotlight? Malia said now she reads about her mom in People Magazine.

"They always have those sections with you know, how much people's dresses cost, and so I saw that magazine, and I said, 'Oh mommy you're in this!' I've never seen mommy in that. Because I usually see people like Angelina Jolie –”

"You know, important people," mom Michelle quipped.

"Yes, real important people, no offense," Malia said.

Thank you so much for reporting on this, CNN. This is very important to my life, and certainly changes my notions about Obama and his family with regard to the election. Finally someone helps me see things clearly.

What a beautiful family! those two kids are just adorable like mum and dad, i can't wait to see them in the White House....They are so cute, well behaved and raised. Dad has promised them a dog since some time now.

I have no problem with a story like this. But did anyone see Richard Roth covering the A-Rod thing? It blows me away that CNN had their UN reporter, a veteran of the Gulf War coverage, seasoned and serious in every way, covering something like the trashy story of Madonna and A-Rod. He looked like he was going to implode as he did the report.

This is not an attractive family! They look like a bunch of losers. Your going to need that dog when he loses the election!

Please consider getting a shelter dog...there are so many wonderful shelter dogs available. This would point up to the country the need to adopt homeless dogs. Also, a mixed breed would be nice...maybe 2 dogs, one for each girl. I have 2 "orphans"...one is from the Katrina storm and one was a Dallas "streetwalker"....they are both wonderful dogs.

Obama's gonna win, if you don't like that fact too bad, get used to it.

We're going to have 8 years of a president who is a clear and concise public speaker, who has the brains to appoint a cabinet that knows what they're doing, who will be globally popular, and who is capable of seeing and understanding multiple sides of an issue even when nuance and critical thinking is unpopular.

Obama's biggest problem is that we have what I call a binary society. The U.S. has always been "Either/Or", with Bush being the embodiment of that. There's a reason why most developed nations have multiple political parties while we have only ever had two (though the names have changed) throughout our history as a nation. We Americans tend to believe that "You're either with us or against us".

Obama is a change from that. He sees that there are times when neither side is wholly right or wholly wrong. He can hold a position while understanding why somebody else would hold an opposing position. This is an alien concept to Americans, and while it will take some getting used to, once we pick it up we will be ready to join the global stage in the 21st century.

    I'm looking forward to it.

"buy" a dog???? This is an opportunity for an accused "elitist" to refute this tag and bring some desperately needed attention to the millions of unwanted pets in overcrowded shelters. Adopt or rescue.... Don't blow this no-brainer, Obama!

I hope Michelle Obama can find a dog for the kids that she can be really proud of. Consistency is very important when raising children.

Remember this is the Obama family and media take on a story which is designed to create a relatible candidate for the November election and nothing more. It is all political and we will be bombarded by it by BOTH candidates until November...can we vote now and get it over with?

Can the media report on real matters, I am being to think not?

    This is not news.

However it is not part of a conspiracy to elect Obama.

What is revealing is the vitriol of the Obama haters. Now I'm not sold on Obama, but when I see the kind of people against him I get pushed towards him.

Yes, they absolutely need to get a dog from a shelter or a rescue organization instead of buying one.

Eric from PA. You are a lot of whats wrong with this country as far as race relations are concerned. It's a nice story. A break from CNN and other networks continuing to try and tear him down. Don't worry there is a lot more time in the day left, to do such a thing. A sweet story and if the story related to McCain, I would have said the same thing. ERIC! TAKE A BREAK FROM THE HATE!

Could this be in response to the AP poll showing Obama losing to McCain among pet owners?

    Methinks it is.

People Magazine may not publish this pathetic piece. CNN did.. on Political Ticker! How is this important? who cares? These are details you tell about Hollywood stars not about a presidential candidate.

google Jimmy McCain.. McCain also has 3 more kids with Cindy..
Just because he chooses to keep his kids out of the spotlight doesnt give you the right to bash his family life. Like you guys see a photo of a smiling obama with kids and make up this teary eyed awesome kids story.. all from one photo.. McCain has purposely not allowed Jimmy to speak because he wants to shield them from the vicious media.. If Jimmy would be allowed to speak, he would say how he enlisted at age 17 in the marines, and was sent to Iraq, to a very deadly zone, and was in Iraq, helping a military truck get out of knee deep mud at the very moment his dad announced his candidacy.
If McCain talked about those kids with Cindy he would also have to talk about the kids with his previous wife who hates his guts...
He doesn't want to go there.

I like the part of Obama taking his kids to Wright's church for years to listen to his cussing and anti-American rants. That was very positive to do. What an excellent role model and good American to president. He can also tell his kids bedtime stories of he adventures with Rezko and Ayers.

Not Cute at all. Hopefully the dog can make them feel better when he loses. They should name the dog, WRIGHT!

It's funny, Independent voter wrote that if you are educated you wouldn't vote for Obama. Hey, let's all act like we are uneducated and vote for McCain. Then when we are screwed over again by the same republican party that has screwed us for almost 8 years we'd be considered too stupid to take notice.

I wish people would stop saying Obama isn't qualified to be president. According to the constitution he is qualified. Over 35, American citizen, no criminal record. For whatever reason our founding fathers and those who have followed them have chosen not to change those guidelines and create a "talent management" plan for President. I'd rather have a president who has a solid family life and creates positive images than one who pays lip service to a family life, but behind the scenes says spiteful, hateful things.

I would like to see Sen. John McCain family beside his flashy wife who has spend over a half a million on clothes. Obama'a wife doesn't buy expensive clothes and yet, she still looks good.

Other than giving his daughters 50,000 dollars to spend on clothes a month what family life does – McCAIN -have? He thinks we all live that life that we get what we want when we do... His wife wears 3000 dollar suits. Can you imagine what 3000 dollars would do for you? Ordinary people out there. good luck with your wasted vote.

They are getting a dog now because when they move to the white house they have someone to clean up after it.
