McCain praises Romney's surrogate skills; VP stock rising?

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/07/15/art.romney.gi.jpg caption="Romney has said he is interested in being McCain's VP."](CNN) - Is Mitt Romney's VP stock rising?

John McCain's campaign has remained tight-lipped about its vice presidential vetting process, but the Arizona senator appeared to suggest Monday night his former rival would make a very effective running mate.

iReport.com: Share your picks for VP

"I'm appreciative every time I see Mitt on television on my behalf," McCain said at a fundraising event in New Mexico. "He does a better job for me than he did for himself, as a matter of fact."

Watch: Romney promotes McCain

There's no denying the former Massachusetts governor is angling for the No. 2 position on the Republican presidential ticket. He said back in March he would be "honored" to take the position and has been a constant fixture on cable news shows over the last several months - vigorously promoting the Arizona senator's candidacy while sharply criticizing that of Obama.

Just last week the onetime Republican presidential hopeful said Obama "looks toward Europe for a lot of his inspiration” after the Illinois senator suggested Americans would benefit from knowing more languages.

“I think John McCain is going to make sure that America stays America,” Romney said in an interview on Fox News.

Romney has long been considered a leading VP contender, despite engaging in a bruising and at times nasty primary fight with McCain. The economy has solidly become the dominant issue this election cycle and Romney, who founded the investment firm Bain Capital, brings a sterling business resume - particularly to a candidate who has admitted he lacks knowledge about economic matters. Romney is also a native of Michigan, and could given McCain the edge in that crucial battleground state that the Democrats won in 2004.

I would not, had thought it; but it looks to me, that the Republicans are"positioning themselves", to "steal" this election from the DemocRATS!

The only way I will vote for McCain is if Romney is on the ticket. We need someone who knows the monetary power structure and the rules and regulations so the Chief Executive isn't incompetent and incoherent. The foreign policy of money is what rules this country and the sooner people realize that the better. The International Monetary Fund and the EU are only two players; China and Russia could sink our Loveboat anytime they wanted...

Seems like McCain would be going the wrong direction on the political barometer if he were to go after Romney. Though it's dangerous for a candidate to be unable to mobilize his own base.

Mitt Romney is all fluff. He's a salesman, nothing more. Now I have friends who are salesmen (or saleswomen) and I like them. But I always question their TOTAL truthfullness. Anyhow, just wait a few months...Romney will change his mind.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Ughh why do the Republicans always make it a point to appeal to ignorance?

How could anyone with a brain possibly think learning more languages and earning the respect of the rest of the world would be a bad thing?

I know Romeny's not a dumb guy, he's just another in a long line of Neocons who don't mind sounding like an idiot if will get them votes.

  12. Hillary got screwed

Romney is absolutely the best choice, and would have made a better Presidential candidate to be truthful. McCain has my vote even if he picks Mickey Mouse for VP. However, Romney is an exellent choice and I feel confident in that ticket. Since nobody wants to be Obama's VP, and who can blame them, this is sweet justice for the way they stuck the screws to Hillary. I converted from twenty years as a Democrat to Independant because of this Obama fiasco. Superdelegates went against their states to push their agenda, not what the voters wanted. You Obama supporters are still too nasty and arrogant, and that will lead to your defeat in Novemebr. Oh yeah, and Howard Dean is an idiot running the DNC.

Isnt the word COMMUNICATION INSTEAD OF WAR
Why wouldn't America or for that matter any country benefit from knowing more languages?
Romney saying Obama "Looks toward Europe for a lot of his inspiration" then addding he wants to make sure" America stays America ."
English is Americas language so what does knowng other languages have to do with "America stays America "
except to benefit in communication with other countrys .

Romney couldn't loose his bearings as he never had them from the beginning .
