McCain calls Obama health care plan 'HillaryCare'

McCain said Obama's health care plan amounts to a government takeover.

McCain said Obama's health care plan amounts to a government takeover.

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (CNN) - John McCain devoted a substantial chunk of his town hall meeting Thursday to drawing contrasts with Barack Obama on health care policy, stressing his opposition to the presumptive Democratic nominee's health care plan and noting the "great difference" between them on abortion.

McCain's strongest denunciation of Obama came when discussing the Democrat's health care plan, which would cost $50-65 billion per year but would not mandate insurance coverage for all adults, only children.

"My friends, we've seen this movie before," McCain said. "It was called 'HillaryCare' back in 1993, and we're not going to do it again. We're not going to have the government take over the health care system in America."

At a later moment in the town hall, when stressing his own bipartisan record, McCain accused Obama of generally having "the most extreme record of any member of the United States Senate."

McCain also went out of his way early in the event to trumpet his opposition to abortion rights and a called partial-birth abortion a "hideous procedure that should never be allowed anywhere on earth." He promised "active advocacy for the rights of the unborn."

McCain struck a more moderate tone when taking a question about federal funding for stem cell research, which he supports. The Arizona senator argued the government should fund research on stem cells - especially skin cells - because of their "incredible potential" to combat diseases. However, the presumptive Republican nominee avoided using the term "embryonic" when discussing the matter Thursday.

Guess what? I will still vote for McCain. Obama is not trustworthy and no one really knows what he stands for. That statement about "Hillarycare" does not hurt my feelings at all. At least McCain is much more straightforward than Obama could ever "hope" to be.

McCain BETTER THINK BEFORE HE OPENS HIS MOUTH!
I am a Democrat, a Hillary supporter who planned to vote for McCain but he better get his facts straight.

Maybe in 1993 she proposed Universal Health INSURNCE BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT SHE PROPOSED THIS YEAR.

She was Universal HEALTH COVERAGE NOT INSURANCE.
THE GOVERNMENT WILL NOT CONTROL OUR HEALTHCARE SYSTEM.

Private Health Insurace WILL STILL EXISTS. You DO NOT HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR INSURANCE.

If you like you health insurance NOTHING WILL CHANGE FOE YOU.

What she proposed was ALLOWING PEOPLE TO PURCHASE THE SAME HEALTH COVERAG THAT THE CONGRESS HAS WITHOUT BLOCKING PEOPLE WITH PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS.

This is NOT GOVERNMENT HEALTH INSURANCE.
IT WILL ONLY AFFECT PEOPLE THAT WANT TO BE INVOLVED IN IT.

She wants to make it mandatory that people have health insurance and for the ones that cannot afford it they will be worked into Medicaid.

When people do not have insuranc they use Emergecny Rooms as their caregivers and they are very expensive $600- $1,000 depending on the care.

By stopping this, the government will save a lot of money.

Obama just wants to cover Children, which by the way Most States have some type of Children's State Health Insurance NOW. So He is not going to have any EFFECTIVE CHANGE.

So McCai,if you want any Hillay supporters you better present her prosposals correctly.

Obama put Hillary in charge of a universal health care plan. Take care of your people's basic health issues and they will love you for ever – real change!!!

It works in Canada and other countries around the world. Not only will the people love you but employers will benefit as well.

A government’s first obligation is to the health and welfare of their people.

We were shocked in Canada when McCain couldn’t answer the question about birth control. WOW he looked like a complete idiot. How can he have any plan related to health if he does know the basics. Where was his advisors?

The clip keeps getting shown over and over again in Canada as example of “how stupid you can be and still run for president” of the US.
In fact there is a cruel joke going around but it is a bit harsh albeit the international image of America has been seriously tarnished by his feeble response.
How did he get this far??

CNN see if you can keep McCain off the air. Around the world he’s making America look bad!!! They keep showing the clip over and over again…

McCain knows that the only way he can become President is to discredit Obama. I was watching him today and he brought up again that if you want your taxes raised then vote for Obama. But that is only if you are making more than $250,000 and most of the people behind him did not look like it. He also brought up that Federal Gas Tax Holiday he keeps talking about. I thought it was 18 cents a gallon but he has raised it now to 25 cents a gallon. That is not going to save much. For every hundred gallons (even at the 25 Cents) would only be $25.00. For most of us we don't use that much a month. If any one else was watching did he sound horrible (sound wise)? I could not decide if he sounded bad or if there was something wrong with the sound system.

    NC man,

If GVT can't handle anything right, let us privatize Marine, Navy and Air Force too. I don't think republican controlled governement and republican commander-in-chief have any clue about how to fight a war and national security. So let us privatize those three armed forces to Halliburton, Boeing, Raythean. Let us also fund our armed forces privately with IndyMac, Freddie Mac, Bear Stern, Hedge Funds....

    You dump republican fool.

SO AGAIN!!!!! His solution is (drum roll please) "Let's DO NOTHING!".....Let's do nothing to solve the health care crisis. Let's do nothing. That's his plan. Do nothing in Iraq, do nothing on health care, do nothing on our dependence on oil, basically – he thinks everything is going along fine and we should just "stay the course".

Has anyone hear much from PUMA lately? Have you all seen the new ad for Planned parenthood with McCain's response when asked his Opinion about Viagra being covered by health insurance but not Birth Control Pills? I hope the Clinton supports who say they now support McCain actually take a look at were Mccain stands on Women Rights. If they really were for what Clinton believed then there is no way they could support McCain.

The goal of the "Liberal Left" is a European Socialist/Welfare State and Obama's Health Care Plan is the next step to Universal Health Care/Hillary Care. But you need to ask yourself why the social elite/wealthy in Europe/Canada and these Communist Counties come to the USA for their medical treatments for serious illnesses and major surgery? Is it because their systems are not quite as good as they say? The 85% of Americans who are willing to pay for insurance will have a drop in quality as the US Military did with the drawdown and Bill's HMO program for their families health care.

Many companies leaving US and moving their factories to China and elsewhere cite Healthcare cost as one of the main reasons. If McCain takes away the tax credit for companies who provide these benefits to their emaployess, it will only make more factories to close...

So if McCain wins; I am investing in Shipping companies, since nothing will be made here and everything will need to be shipped from China.

Our access to healthcare in this country is a disgrace. There is no need to innovate here, most industrialized countries have a superior healthcare system to ours. All we have to do is copy the best one. I worked multiple part time jobs for 10 years with no health insurance and no way to afford even a doctor visit when I was sick. Even rich people can face financial ruin if their health goes bad in this country. It's rediculous.
