[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/07/18/art.gorevp.gi.jpg caption="Gore has ruled out being Obama's running mate."](CNN) - Eight years in the No. 2 spot is enough for Al Gore.
The former vice president, who issued a challenge to the next President of the United States on Thursday to make the country's electricity output carbon-free in 10 years, said later that he will not under any circumstances serve as Barack Obama's running mate.
Unlike the office of the presidency, there are no imposed term-limits on the second highest office in the land. But Gore, who considerably expanded the role of vice president, said he's imposing his own term limits on the job.
“I have a personal term limit,” he told CBS News Thursday. “Only two terms as VP.”
Asked by interviewer Katie Couric whether he might reconsider if the Democratic presidential candidate "begged," Gore said his answer would remain no.
Buzz swirled around a possible Obama-Gore ticket last month after the former vice president - who remains a very popular figure in the Democratic Party - gave an enthusiastic endorsement of the Illinois senator after months on sidelines during the prolonged Democratic primary.
Obama said then he doubted Gore would be willing to serve as VP again.
“Obviously Al Gore is a great public servant, he was a great vice president," he said. He may not want to be vice president again, since he's already done that for eight years, but certainly he's somebody that I'll be getting advice from as we go forward and hopefully he'll help me when I'm president."
Gore said in December that he might jump back into the political fray – but only in a bid for the top spot. A third term as vice president would mean Gore had spent more time in the office than anyone in U.S. history.

Gore your country needs you... global warming isnt happing. Over the past 10 years the earth has actuall cooled... whats happening is a shift. So please join Obamas ticket... so you can go back to what you do best in office... nothing...
alright, this is about the obama-gore ticket...can we please put the 200 election to rest?? I mean, the truth is that gore..not bush, GORE...went to the supreme court, and supreme court voted 7-2...not 5-4, and on a liberal supreme court...so what's all this bs about gore winning the 2000 election?
anyways, Gore is too much of a hollywood circus animal anyways...he'll never go back into politics
Gee the only VP that would really make a difference the egotistical big headed obama won't want. But that's only because Hillary would be more popular than jumping waving chanting cult leader obama.
2000*
Dang...
Nobody wants to get near Obama... but I guess I understand... I wouldn't buy a ticket on the Titanic knowing what I know now...
NoBama.... No Way
No one wants to be VP to this guy... isn't that sort of obvious by now?
Another egomaniac turning down a Vice-Presidency that has not been offered to him.
Ladymary,
I understand you personally cannot stand Hilliary Clinton, however, there are 18 million of us that disagreed with you in the Primary.
For the very FIRST time in Democratic History, the DNC did NOT follow the rules. Simply, the previous closest election that went to the Convention floor was a 700 delegate vote difference. This one was 200.
It SHOULD have gone to the convention for a vote, plain and simple.
If Hillary Clinton had been a man, it would have gone to the convention.
THERE certainly would not have been the pressure for her to drop out of the race. Obama was annointed by the DNC and the RULES Committee. THAT is why many of us no longer have any respect for the Democratic Party.
I never thought that Gore fit the bill of being Obama's VP, he does not have the spark and energy that Obama does and I don't see him as being Obama's right hand man. I just think they are night and day. Maybe he could be something in the energy dept but that's about it as far as I see. Obama will select soon and it will be someone that fits his personality and spunk.
Obama 08
GORE Is not stupid. He also does not want any part of OBAMA!!!
Ofcourse there wasn't even before!
Thank God
Was the offer extended to
Gore to nix. Or is he just nixing the idea?
Gore should leave the Democratic party. He needs to show that global warming is not a partisan issue. It is something that can destroy American life. Take the politics out of science!
Okay and this is news Why?? I respect Gore but he needs to keep doing what he is doing.....what is he doing again?? My point exactly. We need someone else in that VP seat......
And P.U.M.A. (Pessants Under-Mining America) HRC is not it.
"College Repub
Thank God. I wouldn't be able to handle four years of a VP that only cared about polar bears and CO2."
---------------------------
College, your remarks surprise with a name like "College". Have you ever been to college? I imagine you just think we are having a tiny little heat wave with a couple bad rainstorms huh? Can't wait to see you standing in floodwaters in your town. Gee, where did all this water come from....
Gore served our country two terms for our nation. He has moved on.
Now his mission is to save the environment. End of story.
Thank you Mr. Gore for your service.
OBAMA '08
Gore needs to take a permanent vacation. No one is interested. He comes up with a few things every so often to stay in the limelight.
Go home, Al. No one cares about your idiotic messages.
You people with your 'list'. The people that know who REALLY is on the list is a very small group of people and it's not the media. So all your
"there goes another one" talk attempting to suggest that the list is getting small and no one wants to run with Obama only makes you look ridiculous. Gore was never on 'the list'. He's done more good since he has been out of the White House than he ever did while he was in.. James Carville laughed his head off when someone suggested it.
The problem is that the Democrats have A LOT of great choices and not everyone wants to be VP no matter who is in the top spot. Why would you? Then they'd have to be insulted by people like those in these forums.
He ALREADY was VP 2X and ran in 2000 in the most bitterly contested election ever. Why would he want to be VP 3x?
However Gore would be a perfect fit for Sec. of Energy.
As a Hillary backer, I really don't mind if Obama picks someone like Bayh as VP. The only person OUT OF THE QUESTION is Sam Nunn, mainly because of his homophobia. He should also pick someone proven to have won votes for him. An example would be McCaskill, who delivered Missouri for him. Richardson and Biden don't seem to be able to get that many votes. Richardson did not help him at all in Puerto Rico, for instance. Bayh could deliver Indiana, and possibly some other Midwestern states for him. Strickland could deliver Ohio and Rendell could deliver Pennsylvania. Hillary could at least deliver Arkansas for Obama, and maybe Kentucky and West Virginia, as well as Ohio and Pennsylvania. Gore could play some other part in Obama's administration, should he win. Hillary, as a Senator, could be placed in charge of health care reform task force. This may sound wild, but maybe McCain could be Secretary of Defense, since he is up on national security issues, although not so good on others, such as "hillarycare." Obama said himself that he could bring even the opposition into his administration.
Why hasn't any of the MSM talked about this new cover of the Inquirer magazine. "Plot to kill Obama" when his plane had the emergency landing. I really, really hope this story is not true.
IT APPEARS THAT ANY OF THE WELL QUALIFIED RUNNING MATES OBAMA COULD PICK ARE DOING THE RUNNING AWAY FROM BEING CONNECTED TIO HIS WAGON. THIS MAY SHOW THAT EVEN THE ACTIVE MEMBERS OF THE DNC ARE LOYAL TO HILLARY KNOWING SHE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO ACTUALLY EARNED THAT TITLE. THE DNC BETTER OPEN THEIR EYES THAT OBAMA IS NOT THE BEST TO BEAT McCAIN NOW. OBAMA IS NOT THE DEMOCRATS CHOICE BY ALMOST A MILLION VOTES.
HILLARY /OBAMA 08
OBAMA / HILLARY 08 OR
DEMOCRATS 4 McCAIN
HILLARY 2012
PIck Hillary or I vote McCain
Is everyone white man who turns Obama down a racist?
