Obama begins overseas swing in Afghanistan

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/POLITICS/07/18/obama.trip/art.obama.thurs.gi.jpg caption="Sen. Barack Obama will visit several world leaders over the next few weeks."] (CNN) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is in Afghanistan on a multistop overseas trip for meetings with international leaders but with an eye on the U.S. presidential race back home.

Obama's trip, which includes visits to Iraq, Jordan, Israel, Germany, France and the United Kingdom, is intended to bolster his foreign policy credentials before U.S. voters.

"This is the campaign trail via satellite - pictures for the rhetoric back home," CNN's Candy Crowley said, adding that the trip was intended to demonstrate that Obama was up to the job of taking a lead role on the international stage.

"The question is, is he tough enough to stand up for America but graceful enough to improve [its] image?" Crowley said.

In a recent Washington Post/ABC News poll, 48 percent of registered voters said Obama would make a good commander in chief, compared with 72 percent for his Republican rival, John McCain.

What a stupid question to ask, CNN just look how the things Obama has been saying about Iraq and Afghanistan, it's all coming true and proves he's a true leader here at home and will prove to be a world leader the global community will look to for direction.

This has got to be driving McSame up the wall because he c an't generate the excitment and level of HOPE Obama brings to America and abroad.

  2. Dems are stuck in the fix they rigged

    To Obama supporters:

If Obama will win in a landslide... why do you need to keep blogging to defend and promote him?

Why does he keep ON campaigning? Why does he need to spend MORE and MORE money?

AmeriKa is ready for change, right? The republican brand is out of favor- so that the LEAST democrat is better than the MOST republican.
Democrats don't have to worry... no one wants another republican.

So, what is the hang up for Obama? Why is he still pandering for EVERY vote?

Isn't cheating his way into power working out as well as hoped and expected?

Where is this landslide in this year when NO democrat can lose. Obama should be winning just by carrying the "democrat" label... but instead he needs to waste millions on self-promotion.

Now begins the REAL race for the white house. John McCain – you don't have a chance in hell after Obama returns from this trip. I find it very ironic that our current white house, the republican campaign AND the iraq government is now installing Obama's long held strategy on the war on terror.

    Who has good judgment?

And let's not forget that Obama's ideas come directly from the people – and I can proudly say that I am a citizen of the great city of Chicago.

It's nice to be able to 'play, the President"; while not actually, being the President. Its like a "dress-rehhearsal", without all the real "pitfalls;" of the real role, that the Real President plays in "real time"........it's kinda a nice position to be in, for a "short time", wouldn't you say! But, don't ask G.W. Bush; he may differ!

candy pls keep your republican view of obama out of the comments you make of him. so far you find it difficult to comment on him positively, even when you are reporting something positive of him you still find a way to such the juice out of it like a republican viper.

Now isn't this refreshing!!! A leader who is focused on listening rather then telling AND he isn't trying to confuse the situation.

Obama 08 - leadership we can believe in!

When asked if Obama would have tough talk for the leaders of Afghanistan and Iraq, Obama said he was "more interested in listening than doing a lot of talking."

"I think it is very important to recognize that I'm going over there as a U.S. senator. We have one president at a time, so it's the president's job to deliver those messages," Obama said.

"The question is, is he tough enough to stand up for America but graceful enough to improve [its] image?"

I've rarely read anything this silly - the man's going on a good will tour; why on earth would anyone want him to posture as "tough"?

Cindy Crowley, why is your reporting so heavily opinionated. Do we have to hear your analysis, and your perspective....Did Obama not say that he's going there as a US Senator. It is rather unreasonable to suggest that this trip is heavily inclined toward political manuveur that it is toward genuine concern. I think you report is rather demeaning!

Obama has never had a job, never been in the service, never done
been a boss of anything, not a risk taker, never really done much
but shake down folks for cash. This is like sending a bum to

"The question is, is he tough enough to stand up for America but graceful enough to improve [its] image?"

Yes he is. Yes he is. This is the answer to both sides of the question. The reason for the affirmitative answer is that this is who Barack Obama is: a tough yet graceful leader.
