White House sends press corps al-Maliki praise for Obama plan

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/07/19/art.maliki.gi.jpg caption="al-Maliki praised Obama’s 16-month withdrawal plan in a newspaper report Saturday."]CRAWFORD, TX (CNN) - An embarrassing slip up for the White House press office Saturday, when an aide hit the wrong button and mistakenly sent to the news media a Reuters article saying Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki backs presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama's troop withdrawal plan.

White House spokesman Scott Stanzel says, "It was a mistake. Clips list for staff was supposed to be the addressee."

The Obama campaign quickly took advantage of the mistake, forwarding an ABC report detailing the incident to its press list.

This is not the first time the White House has emailed in error. But its timing is particularly embarrassing as the Bush administration's recent agreement with al-Maliki on a "general time horizon" for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq is being cited by some as resembling Obama's proposal that U.S. forces should leave within 16 months.

We need to get the hell out of there – militarily.

As far as Maliki: if they are on board – great. If not – we still need to get out.

Obama – by far – has the best chance of actually restoring some of our lost credibility overseas. Enough with the neo-con garbage. McCain is more of what we've had.

I just don't understand when people say "Obama has no foreign policy experience". It seems to me he has been right all along. I hope everyone watched all the foreign policy speeches by President Bush, Senator McCain, and Senator Obama. I suffered through all three. Senator Obama seems spot on!

Just wondering how long it takes Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly and the others to blame the "liberal media" for running with this story. Then again, they were curiously silent when Bush sent an envoy to Iran AFTER saying that Obama's plan to initiate dialogue with Tehran was "giving support to turrists."

HA! HA! HA! This is too funny. ˇhe Bush/Cheney administration are nothing but IDIOTS on all levels. It's no wonder John McCain is so deep in the toilets, he's JUST LIKE BUSH!!! I mean the man doesn't have a clue what he's talking about AND he constantly has this 'dumbfounded" look on his face like he's always confused.

Americans need to wake up and pay attention, the good Lord is giving us many clear warning flags and if we continue to ignore then, then SHAME ON US, if we end up with 4 more years for MdBUSH and our economy flushed down the toilets and our sons, daughters, husbands and wives fighting in another UN-NECESSARY WAR!! McBUSH is just nothing but a "trigger" man waiting to get the power to send us into another 100+ year war!!!

The White House decides to enter into a nuclear disarmament meeting with Iran, and agees with a US troop drawdown plan with Iraq. John McCain adopts "Change we can believe in" theme in his campaign. Sounds like the Republicans are listening to Barack Obama!

Obama has always said the war in Afghanistan is the front for the war on terror. End game... killing Bin Laden will be the start. Cleaning out the mountains with a large amount of NATO troops will be the goal. That is the point of this trip. Getting more troops for Afghanistan so that America will not have to do it alone.
Bush has turned the world against us. Obama's aim is to get the world behind us.. like it once was.. when we were first hit on 9/11. The focus is on terrorist that are a threat to us all.. a common enemy.
Our real mission... getting the guy who did it... was never finshed. We let the bad guy behind 9/11 get away while we took a needless 1 trillion dollar detour in Iraq.

Our other mission... setting up a task force.. with other countries.. to fight terrorism.
We will go in together and put out nest. A common enemy bringing the world together.

Obama also said we should put more troops in Afghanistan. Now they are talking about putting more troops over there. Maybe he is more adept than we all thought on these issues.

Obama wanted to pull out during the so called, "IRAQ CIVIL WAR". Now that the Republicans plan to pull out upon success is working, because of the "Surge". The surge that Obama, Pelosi and Harry Reid all opposed. They would have pulled out and Iraq would have descended into Chaos. We would have bailed out on the Iraqi's prematurely and the MidEast would likely have erupted. We'd be paying $10 a gallon in gas if we listened to Obama, Harry Reid, and Pelosi.

So, were you saying the same thing when McCain went on a trip overseas? Didnt think so. So, just be quiet and stop making a fool of yourself. When McCain goes its a fact finding mission that doesnt hurt the us economy, but when Obama goes its a political stunt and hurts the us economy. Yep, you are definately a delusional republican. You repugs must really think the American people are idiots. You guys really need to get a clue. You just keep making fools of yourselves. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!

"How about if we elect a President the old fashioned way — through fair and honest elections,"

    Old fashioned way?! Honest elections?!
Please, please, please, do tell me what country do you have in mind?
No, scratch this, tell me what planet you are from?

I can't believe this is a moderated forum and you allowed posts that smear Obama with outright egregious lies like the one that begins:

Please moderate a bit more fully.

By the way, it looks like the Republicans are...well...screwed.
