White House sends press corps al-Maliki praise for Obama plan

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/07/19/art.maliki.gi.jpg caption="al-Maliki praised Obama’s 16-month withdrawal plan in a newspaper report Saturday."]CRAWFORD, TX (CNN) - An embarrassing slip up for the White House press office Saturday, when an aide hit the wrong button and mistakenly sent to the news media a Reuters article saying Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki backs presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama's troop withdrawal plan.

White House spokesman Scott Stanzel says, "It was a mistake. Clips list for staff was supposed to be the addressee."

The Obama campaign quickly took advantage of the mistake, forwarding an ABC report detailing the incident to its press list.

This is not the first time the White House has emailed in error. But its timing is particularly embarrassing as the Bush administration's recent agreement with al-Maliki on a "general time horizon" for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq is being cited by some as resembling Obama's proposal that U.S. forces should leave within 16 months.

to: "OBAMA TRIP BLAH BLAH........" – How much money came from terrorists? Please. I bet you are one of those idiots who thinks he is a Muslim who is trying to subvert the American way of life.

He gets his money from people like me. People with a brain who vote our hopes for America, not our fears.

I am pleased you intend to vote although for McCain, but please do so from a difference in policy, not based ridiculous conspiratorial rumors that are spread by people who are only slightly less moronic that those who believe them.

    Re: You need facts

Don't you bother to get any facts before you speak?

The source of Obama's campaign money is very well documented, as is John McCain's. Why don't you compare where Obama's and McCain's money comes from. It is in the public domain for everyone to examine. So take your question about where Obama's money came from and shove it.

hey "OBAMA TRIP HURTS U.S. ECONOMY!" You sir, are a moron. So the town halls Obama's been having are not with actual americans because they don't support John McCain? And Obama's trip is hurting the economy... not the Bush-McCain-Gramm policies? What did you say when McCain was trotting around Europe and South America? Your statement is appalling beyond words and reveals your intolerance for anyone not like you. Have a great day.

I don't think it's hugely important to visit somewhere – especially Iraq – to correctly formulate an opinion on policy regarding it. In any case, any US official higher than an actual solder sees a sanitized view of Iraq from within the Green Zone. McCain's view that you need to be there to know what the right thing to do is – or possibly dodge bullet fire to be enlightened is patently misleading. Obama has a vision which has resonated with Maliki and the majority of people in Iraq and the US. The vision will be translated into actual tactical moves by the generals on the ground.

No visit is required for a vision.

Rob of sc – you want a revolution. bring it on. unless you have a mob behind you, you are nothing. Then someone else like the Kennedys and the Kerrys would have to do your thinking for you. America is not LA. we will not stand for another hullabaloo like that one with out fighting back.

Hahaha!!!!!! Wonderful! This has become my favourite W.H. faux pas

OBAMA TRIP HURTS U.S. ECONOMY!: "How about if we elect a President the old fashioned way..."

You mean via the smoke-filled back room? Ms. Clinton was advocating for that.

"...through fair and honest elections, based upon the candidate's actual patriotism, experience, judgment, and service to country — instead of who is more of a showman, or who can raise more money — and, therefore, buy the Presidency (like Barack Hussein Obama did in the primaries) — and is trying to do in the general election."

Like the 2000 election? Yep, Florida was great, wasn't it. Somehow I don't think money would be an issue if it was Mr. McCain who had the cash reserves.

"Where did Obama’s money come from? How much came from his terrorists friends and foreign countries?

Why is he in Europe? Is he getting more money? Europeans can’t vote for President of the U.S."

Pull up your pants. Your desperation is showing.

"Why won’t he participate in town hall meetings with “Americans”?"

He has, and you all accuse him of talking too much.

"How much did this trip cost? What is this trip costing the American Enonomy? Why does he need 300 advisors? Do they put a piece in his ear and feed his speech to him?"

Considering how much money he has raised, I don't think you need to worry your pretty little head over it.

"McCain has been over there eight times — the biased media did not report it — they certainly did no go with him."

Sooooo, Obama has been overseas once and you complain about cost. McCain is over there 8 times by your count, and it's an indication of patriotism?

Pull those pants up a little higher.

    "I’m voting for John McCain."

By all means. If you're the caliber of the support he can drum up, it should be an easy election for Mr. Obama.

The only time we hear the truth from the Bush white house is when they have made a mistake.

Have the US public who are going to vote for McCain figured this out yet?

A vote for McCain is a vote for cotton filled ears and blinders.

    Tired of the lies.

Someone else noted this on a message board I frequent:

"It's important not to overlook how different Bob Barr is from Obama on Iraq. Obama splits the US troop presence into two groups, "combat" troops and "security" troops. That distinction is an illusion because they do roughly the same things. Obama's hazy timetable is only for the "combat" troops, and he hasn't said how many troops are defined to be "combat" troops and how many are defined to be "security" troops.

Barr favors a complete withdrawal that leaves no US military presence or bases in Iraq. For Barr, it's just withdrawing the "troops". There's no clever wording with "combat" vs. "security".

This difference is more important than you might think, because some of the groups in Iraq really want a complete withdrawal. It makes a big difference to a lot of Iraqis, when it comes to independence and sovereignty."

"Obama Trip Hurt US Economny" Are you KIDDING ME?!?!

You complete ninny. Obama served on a board of directors with a former Weather Underground radical, who had served his time and is now a free, productive member of society. He's not really friends with Obama. When he was a radical, Obama was 7 YEARS OLD.

Obama, as a US Senator, has access to travel funds for fact finding tours. It's part of his job, you idiot. He isn't going to Europe to get votes, he's going to Europe and the Mideast to do the very thing McCain has been whining about. Find out the situation. McCain has been overseas 8 times in his decades of service as a senator? Wow. Impressive. The media did not go with McCain because he didn't invite them.

You really need to get your facts straight before you start spewing this nonsense. You are a complete idiot, just like your buddy McCain. He STILL refers to Chechoslovakia, a country that NO LONGER EXISTS!

You go ahead and vote for McCain. You'll be in good company with the other village idiots.

mike in carolina va...did your mother not raise you right? Obama is a fraud and more voters are catching on every day. BHO has lost his "OOMPH" and he is wandering around Europe and the Mideast trying soooo hard to find it again.

Wise move though...leaving the "Little Woman" at home.

Just in case you were, in fact, born stupider than you implied OTHUSE was...those people can't vote in November.

And I'm voting for McCain, too!

Obama can take all the praise he wants, but McCain has always said he will withdraw troops on the ground when the generals and iraqi government say so, and if this is what they want then that is it. The troops come home and the US have no need to go back. Job done and McCain can take credit for always saying he would listen to people.

But also remember that if things start to go wrong in Iraq and Obama has promised to bring troops home, and they want us to stay, he's gonna have to listen and keep them there. This war isnt over until its safe in Iraq and its still fragile, even though it has taken a huge turn for the better.

Well done troops, your all very brave and should be so proud.
