White House sends press corps al-Maliki praise for Obama plan

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/07/19/art.maliki.gi.jpg caption="al-Maliki praised Obama’s 16-month withdrawal plan in a newspaper report Saturday."]CRAWFORD, TX (CNN) - An embarrassing slip up for the White House press office Saturday, when an aide hit the wrong button and mistakenly sent to the news media a Reuters article saying Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki backs presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama's troop withdrawal plan.

White House spokesman Scott Stanzel says, "It was a mistake. Clips list for staff was supposed to be the addressee."

The Obama campaign quickly took advantage of the mistake, forwarding an ABC report detailing the incident to its press list.

This is not the first time the White House has emailed in error. But its timing is particularly embarrassing as the Bush administration's recent agreement with al-Maliki on a "general time horizon" for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq is being cited by some as resembling Obama's proposal that U.S. forces should leave within 16 months.

Surely you know where to find the information you seek. Go to the FEC website it will answer all your questions concerning where Obama gets his money. If you consider me and other Obama supporters terrorist then you have a very serious problem. I served in the US Army, judging by your comments I doubt you had the guts to join. If you can't figure out why he is traveling overseas then you need to pay more attention to world affairs. What does it matter what his trip cost, the tax payers are not paying for it, his supporters are, he opted out of public funds, if you remember.

As far as the town hall meetings, think for a second, you would want to fight someone on their turf and by their rules, I didn't think so. Use your head for something other than a hat rack, I know it is difficult but give it a try, you might actually learn something.

to obama trip hurts the us economy – there are many US citizens living abroad, didn't you know that? Did you not know that a lot of US military families live in other countries? Did it ever dawn on you that Obama raises more money because more people actually like and believe in him?

Well said Mike, it's pathetic the type of hate being spewed by some people with nothing intelligent to say. The person who posted about Obama's trip hurting the ecomomy obviously had very little to say that made any logical sense.

to mike in caroline va, it's nice to see fellow intelligent people calling out the stupid people of this nation on their mistakes!

On another note, Mike is exactly right, you criticize Obama on going to visit other countries, which seems to be where McCain always is. I didn't hear you complain when McCain visited Latin America......or does that trip not count. An in response to you question and I quote

" Where did Obama’s money come from? How much came from his terrorists friends and foreign countries? "

Well, if you look at the records, none of it, but we can look at McCain and see some of the money he's taken from lobbyists, comes from those who work for the military junta in Myanmar. I think you need to watch something other than Fox news and Bill O'Reilly.

The Obama campaign needs all the help they can get.

A school of three hundred tours with Obama the candidate, and who is paying for this? Are they there to protect their candidate or for some serious discussions? What else can Obama say or do to amuse us and make all his friends and teachers proud?

We are already tired with this drama and wonder how long this can actually go on. Sometimes they do keep going, but usually loses its steam if it’s just a running round in a circle show, and I hope for the later.

When will them tone deaf Log Cabin Repugs listen to what other people are saying, how dumb can some people be.. If you have someone tell you to get out of there house. That mean get the hell out. Now if you choose to stay, then there would be something worst that could happen..

It don't take a person with a PHD,MBA, or a Dr. to understand what people are telling them. The facts on the ground is that they want us out.... Point Blank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OBAMA TRIP HURTS THE US ECONOMY, you are an imbecile. If you think money didn't play a role in "old-fashioned" campaigns, you are sorely mistaken. In fact, your entire characterization of the "old-fashioned way" of politics is misconceived. It is also quite petty to invoke Obama's middle name as a way of linking him to terrorist organizations, and sad that you think his aim of improving our global image and influence is a bad thing. What we need is a leader who is willing to think in global terms, and while I think John McCain would make a competent president, he does not possess the worldview and diplomacy that Obama seems to. So we vote based on many considerations, but ultimately we vote based on the impression we get from the candidate. Don't fool yourself into thinking McCain or anybody who touts the closed-minded, guns-blazing brand of patriotism is the obvious choice for leading the country.

Hmmmm......."How does one hit a wrong button? More importantly how did a message of support get written to begin with and why would it be cued for release if you have no intention of supporting it? Typical modern politics. Everyone plays a hand and the outcome is always pre-determined. They don't even try to cover it up anymore becaus this is the type of foolishness we have come to expect from our governments. We kissed democracy goodbye a long time ago. Even here in Canada we are not without our house full of corrupt politicians and special interest suck ups that could care less that the world is going to hell in a handbasket

The Iraqi's laid out a 5 year plan that included bench marks. A far cry from Obama's run out plan..

ATTN: obama trip hurts u.s. economy
You're clearly a brain dead ring wing. If you are so worried about the cost of Obama's trip, what do you say as BUSH and your republicans cronies are robbing this country?

Get ready America...Here comes "politics" at its best.
Just days before the election, the Iraq war will end. Osama bin Laden will be killed. Gas will be less than 3 bucks. Banks will be propped up. Thousands of Mexicans will go home. The sun will be shining and the birds will be singing...America will be her old self. The Republican party is in the White House, so , of course they'll get all the credit, even tho all these disasters were of their own making. Oh , and of course we'll be taking our second stimulus checks to the local car dealer. Look: it could happen. The question is why wait. Bush and his buddies could take their boots off of our throats TODAY, but it's not how politics works

OBAMA TRIP HURTS U.S. ECONOMY. Why don't you just say you're a hard core Republican and you have a crummy candidate AND stop sounding like any idiot.

Obama is in the middle East because of all the negative whining from the GOP crowd. Please don't cry about his trip when Bush has put this country in the poor house.

I say we put him in office RIGHT NOW.

    Wasn't Obama's plan.

Obama wanted to "end the war immediately" according to his own words during debates with Senator Clinton. I guess since those words took her out of the race he'll change his words while debating McCain.

    Just another politician.

I don't beleive it was an error or a mistake. The White House knew what Al-Maliki's view was on that issue and by leaking on week end at a time when the press and people are busy doing something else, they are going to make it look like second hand news next week when Obama is in Irak.

Amazing coincidence, isn't it? Oops. I just sent that to the media. Wonder who did it and if they're going to lose their job in the WH.

Of course, Malicki agrees with Obama. They want us out of there before all the other Muslim countries start talking about how buddy buddy Iraq is to the US. If they haven't gotten it together by now, they never will. 16 months is more than enough time. And they should be paying us in oil, but they aren't. Maybe we should present them with a bill.
