White House sends press corps al-Maliki praise for Obama plan

al-Maliki praised Obama’s 16-month withdrawal plan in a newspaper report Saturday.

al-Maliki praised Obama’s 16-month withdrawal plan in a newspaper report Saturday.

CRAWFORD, TX (CNN) - An embarrassing slip up for the White House press office Saturday, when an aide hit the wrong button and mistakenly sent to the news media a Reuters article saying Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki backs presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama's troop withdrawal plan.

White House spokesman Scott Stanzel says, "It was a mistake. Clips list for staff was supposed to be the addressee."

The Obama campaign quickly took advantage of the mistake, forwarding an ABC report detailing the incident to its press list.

This is not the first time the White House has emailed in error. But its timing is particularly embarrassing as the Bush administration's recent agreement with al-Maliki on a "general time horizon" for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq is being cited by some as resembling Obama's proposal that U.S. forces should leave within 16 months.

to obama trip hurts u.s economy: You talk about wining an election through fairness and honesty but you are the one who practice none of your advice. Obama won the primaries against all odds playing a fair campaign considering all the slime and the kitchen sink tactics he had to endure. Nobody really knows where McCain stands on issues anymore because he changes his mind every other day; his advisers are out there calling American a "nation of whiners" or even better we suffer from mental recession; or even talking than a terrorist attack will benefit McCain.... and I would not be surprise if Bush decides to bomb Iran (for no reason) just to make sure that McCain wins in November so we all can be patriotic as we should and line up behind the "patriotic" party. Before you spread your lies please clean up your house first.

McCain can try to spin this however he wants. This is a complete disaster for his campaign.

To the person who called al-Maliki inept, well, inept or not, al-Maliki IS the Prime Minister. This doesn't reduce his weight of opinion as to when troops should leave his country. Just like Bush ineptism didn't stop him from excersing a judgement that bombing Iraq was in America's best interest. The only difference is, al-Maiki is right, and Bush was wrong. Right is right, and wrong is wrong, whether they're "inept" or not.

I am a lifelong Democrat, and I am not impressed at all. That Obama has not been to Iraq or really any war zone until right before we are supposed to vote for him shows that he is weak in areas that we need a strong leader for. This added on to his numerous flip-flops (just as many as McCain) and his support for Bush policy, and the simple fact that he did not stand up for our voter's rights here is making even more easy for me to want to vote for McCain along with many other Dems here in FL. It is all me and my friends talk about lately and not many of us plan on voting for Obama with his last minute "War for Dummies" Iraq trip!

Obama is right again, and President Bush is admitting it where McCain remains silent. First about diplomacy with Iran, now he's right about pulling out of Iraq and putting more troops in Afghanistan.

Is there a chance that he is acting in the best interest of the people of the United States of America? And if so, does that make him ... patriotic? and intelligent? That's what most mature Americans want in a president.

    Surprise surprise.

It's no wonder the corrupt terrorist like Obama. They, unlike some American citizens can see that he has no backbone and would surely be a great President to have in the White House when they decide to strike again. This nut case scares the poop out of me.

Tough to tell what the White House is doing on this one. Most likely this just another example of incimpetence. It is possible the e-mail was released with the purpose of pointing the blame at Al-Maliki. After all, this crew expects others to take personal responsibilty, while they duck responsibility every chance they get. It's the Republican way, you see...

McGeezer must really hate that, especially compared to his "we'll be there 100 years" statement.

"McCain has been over there eight times — the biased media did not report it — they certainly did no go with him. "

McCain went to Iraq when the Obama/Clinton battle was at its peak. I recall everyone saying how lucky he was the media was covering it to much considering he made a number of mistakes. Again republicans want to have their cake and eat it too.

Why is this not a huge front page spread? This is big news – Americans want the war to end, Iraqis are ready to get us the hell out of there, and they're all basically doing what Obama suggested. Yet its buried on the side? Liberal Media my Aunt Fanny.

I do not think the word "alledgedly" is needed in your headline. The Iraqi president does support the idea. Why carry water for McCain on this? Unless, you need a close race at all costs.

To: OBAMA TRIP HURTS U.S. ECONOMY – PLEASE learn how to spell before you castigate another. It would also be helpful if you READ. Obama's money came from U.S. citizens. Any idiot would know that foreigners cannot contribute to a political campaign. You are as stupid as the day is long.

to obama trip hurts u.s. economy. obama is on his first trip and mccpuppet has been there EIGHT times!!!!!! were you born stupid or did you study to get that way? 8 times is 8 times the hit on your tax wallet. keep your mouth shut and your ears open and you might learn something or stop being a racist!!!!!

So he is racist because he questions your choice of candidate, or is it because he doubts Obama's words and Obama's actions gives him cause to question. I do not agree with the dude, but I am sick of Obama fans labeling everyone as racist when they do not hear what they would like to hear from people. I actually think the dude's view is very one sided, Obama's lack of trips to and knowledge of our War Zones probably was cheaper than the 7 times more experience that John McCain has over him in this same area. You know, maybe I am lucky, but I have not really personally met a white racist (that does not mean they are not out there) but I encountered my first black racist in High School and have been running across them my whole life. All of you need to see that racism is two sided. There are just as many black racists as there are white ones. When is CNN going to run a "White In America" special, because we certainly do not have all the options African Americans are offered, there is no such thing as a "United Cracker College Fund."
