(CNN) - There’s been plenty of second-guessing from Republican critics about Barack Obama's large-scale public events and speeches scheduled for his visit to Europe this week - but former President George H.W. Bush isn't one of them.
Asked today whether, as a former head of state who has a sensitivity about protocol, he has any thoughts about the appropriateness of Obama's planned events, the former President replied, "A little jealous, is all."
The former president, who says he's just returned from a visit to Germany's Brandenburg gate, added that Obama will "figure it out."
For more on the stagecraft of Obama's world tour, tune into Campbell Brown: Election Center tonight at 8 pm ET.
Oh dear… Look for George H W Bush to take back this statement ala Malaki after receiving the Rove phone call .lol
He's jealous because Obama will be the President, Bush could never be.
Would seem that Daddy Bush can largely acknowledge the intellect and sound judgement of Senator Obama.
Jealous of what? An airhead that the media's in the tank with.
Not news
OBAMA 08
I bet GB senior will vote for BO, hah.
Sounds like an Obama supporter to me.
Way to go Obama!
Obama '08
awwwwwwwww at least he is honest...unlike Jesse" Rhyme time " Jackson and McOld as Dirt.
Bush is really myopic – would Obama be so seemingly popular if the country hadn't been dragged through the mud for the last 8 years? Bush created the Obama fantasy and now he's jealous?
I am not a republican (nor democrat) but I do respect a lot of what George H. W. Bush did during his presidency.
As far as the "little jealous" comment. Refreshing honesty which I am sure is shared by most republican politicians and most educated republicans in our country.
As someone supporting Obama, I'm not so much jealous as I am extremely proud.
I am reaching here, but was that meant to be a joke? If so, that was kind of funny! Thank you Mr. Ex Prez. Also your son proves daily why abortion is and should be legal. If only you had the forsight.
So is your son and McSame and all the Repubs!
Go Bam! Show them how to do it!
...a little jealous?!...puh-leaaaase...republicans are shaking in their boots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
President Barack Obama – '08/'12!
YES WE CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe President Bush, the son, would be more popular if he were more like his dad.
McCain wanted to go to war with Iraq since 1998 and pushed for the Bush war all along and he also helped push the faulty intelligence that got us into this mess. Now all he talks about is the surge. Look it up.
Well, Obama is just taking his American Idol act overseas. He plays well to big crowds, as long as he has his teleprompter.
However, rock star status does not make Obama qualified to be president. If that was the case, we could have voted for Elvis Presley decades ago.
Well, say what you want-but I have always thought more of the elder Bush than I do his idiot son. At least he has some ounce of common sense and a strong back bone. As a matter of fact, I would elect him 10x over that stupid McCain. He has admitted it is jealousy and nothing else. You people should too. You will feel much better.
I think those five words are quite eloquent. I believe they express the entirety if not the depth of many of the reactions and actions on the right. Jealousy is why they don't understand what the big deal is about some speeches. They wish they could be that eloquent. Jealousy is why they don't understand why he draws such big crowds. They wish they could motivate others to come out such public support of them and their ideas. Jealousy is why they term him the black messiah. They clearly don't wish they could be black. But they do wish that people would put the same type of trust and significance in their character and intelligence.
The list could go on. But I think former President Bush put it best.
A little jealous, is all.
Oooo. Did he just dis his son?
So is Mccain, that is why he attacks Obama relentlessly and it will cost him the election (thank God) There is alot to be jealous of, Obama is educated, has brilliant judgement, has managed his campaign flawlessly, has millions of supporters, the world loves him and besides all that he's cute to boot!
It's OK to be jealous,
.....especially when your son is G.W. Bush....the worst President in the the history of the United states
At least he's honest. Obama is the man, his popularity around the world is on the rise and demonstrates he is exactly whom we need to lead the country.
Yeah, jealous, because his own son would get stoned if he turned up anywhere in public these days!
Wow... maybe he's a secret supporter of Senator Obama. Wouldn't that be ironic!
