Obama meets key Mideast leaders

Sen. Barack Obama meets with Israeli President Shimon Peres in Jerusalem.

Sen. Barack Obama meets with Israeli President Shimon Peres in Jerusalem.

JERUSALEM (CNN) - Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama pledged Wednesday to maintain a close relationship between the United States and Israel.

He also said he will work toward bringing peace in the region regardless of whether he is elected president.

Obama spoke during a meeting with Israeli President Shimon Peres in Jerusalem. It was one of many stops the senator from Illinois made during the day.

The senator is on an international tour aimed to boost his foreign policy credentials.

"I'm here on this trip to reaffirm the special relationship between Israel and the United States and my abiding commitment to Israel's security, and I hope I can serve as an effective partner, whether as a United States senator or as a president, in bringing about a more lasting peace in the region," he said.

Peres said he had "high regard" for Obama and described his belief that "the future belongs to the young."

Obama began his second day in the Middle East on Wednesday by meeting Israeli leaders and laying a wreath at the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial in Jerusalem.

"Boost his foreign policy credentials"? You MUST be joking. He has none.

You should have said "cramming for some foreign policy knowledge, because he has none".

This country will be sorry if this poser is elected president, but it'll be too late to do anything about it.

This guy is the MOST arrogant man I have ever seen in my life. This guy is running around like he's already the president! Hey Barack, you should have been getting your experience and foreign policy credentials BEFORE you ran for president! This guy has no clue what he's doing. Hey, are you giving all of those countries the same snow-job spin you gave us Americans? You know, the little thing you do when you flash your smile, shout "Change we can believe in" a lot, attack everyone else's policy and ideas only because you don't have any of your own, vandalise the presidential seal, and bash the president only because it's what almost everyone else is doing? Oh yeah, and cry and complain a lot? Is this how you will deal with foreign leaders when they give you a tough time? Cry and complain because someone is mean to you? You're pathetic Barack!

    McCain 08!

I am not understanding any of this. THE IRAQI GOVERNMENT IS READY FOR US TO LEAVE!!!!!!! Why the hell are our so-called leaders insisting on staying. IF THEY DON'T WANT US THERE...THEN LETS GO HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is no "winning" this war! Maybe if we had gone after the REAL perpetrators of 9/11, this would be a different story! Hey Johnny...Where is Bin Laden?!!!!!!!

Looks like Obama's 4 for 4 so far! McCain would never have gotten near this reception or gotten to any diplomacy like Obama has.

    Another Gaffe from McCain!
This is McCain Last Night on CBS:
"I don't know how you respond to something that is as — such a false depiction of what actually happened," McCain said. "Colonel MacFarland was contacted by one of the major Sunni sheiks. Because of the surge we were able to go out and protect that sheik and others. And it began the Anbar awakening. I mean, that's just a matter of history."

The Anbar Awakening began 6 months before the Surge!
The 90,000+ Paid sunnis also contributed!!! Google it and read about it. It was a collective effort, not just the increase in troops!
Stating the facts does not take credit from out troops, they did a great job! But it was not only them, it was the IRAQ people also!
So stop exagerating the facts and stop Lying about the surge!

These guys cannot help but like Obama. He is looking the part so far.
No foot in mouth disease diagnosis yet. Mccain must really be saying now , what the heck was i thinking prodding Obama to visit the world, now they cannot get enough of him.
Please lets be real , we must be very proud to see an American warmly received across the world.

That alone is worth the trip.

When are the media REALLY going to hold McNothing accountable. It's an 'offensive' move to put the media on edge by claiming Obama is getting so much more media attention than McNothing but the real scrutiny has never hit the ageless wonder. If the media were REALLY doing their job, they would have sliced McCain over his 'traitor' comment regarding Obama being more interested in winning a campaign than winning the Iraq war which is SHAMELESS. But nothing could have beaten his campaign's statement about Obama at Yad Vashem, the Holocoust Museum in Israel, claiming Obama is lying when he says "Never Again". As a Jew, I will NEVER vote for that OLD F@RT. He will no doubt say that it was not he who made the statement but nontheless allow his campaign to vomit excrement without any accountability. I agree that the media isn't doing their job but it's because they are hiding the hideousness of McFuddled.

    Dear Sandy

Shouldn't a foreign policy expert know the different countries and their borders that concern him so much ? Not to mention who the Shia and Sunni are ? I could go on but you probably get my drift.
