(CNN)—Presumptive Republican nominee John McCain is set to meet with the Dalai Lama Friday in Colorado.

The Tibetan political and spiritual leader will be a keynote speaker at a three-day seminar at the Aspen Institute as part of a greater celebration of Tibetan Culture where he will also meet with McCain. McCain is expected to speak at the American GI Convention in Denver Friday morning, and will make the trip to Aspen to meet with the Dalai Lama later in the afternoon.

Often referred to as “His Holiness,” the Dalai Lama has lived in exile in Dharamsala, India since the Chinese occupied Tibet in 1959.

In April, McCain urged China to engage the spiritual leader in discussions on the future of Tibet.

"Our relationship with China is important,” the Arizona senator said in a statement. “But the Chinese government needs to understand that in our modern world, how a nation treats its citizens is a legitimate subject of international concern... I urge the government of the People's Republic of China to address the root causes of unrest in Tibet by opening a genuine dialogue with His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, aimed at granting greater autonomy.”

I hope this gets the coverage it deserves; and I hope McCain can learn from his conversation with his Holiness.

    Go McCain! 🙂

    Kudos Senator McCain!

Obama, the great pretender, is just an arrogant, egomaniac with no core principles, no moral center and no priorities other than political expediency!

The media may crown Obama but America will not!

Jack, it is not question of just trashing everything, like your candidate's campaign has been seriously doing the last few days. If the meeting generates something substantive, it will get the coverage it deserves. Just quit whining and concentrate on your message and stop the lies and distortations. And tell your candidate to be respective to his rival, they just differ on policies and approaches, calling a fellow senator a traitor is a sad and stupid thing to do.

At least he's moved well beyond Hagee and that bunch.

With the Dalai Lama he can discuss freeing India from the Chinese, or was it Burma?

Good – glad they are meeting.

McCain might get a lecture about wars. Better be on his best behavior and not mention the wars he intends to start so he can win another one.

I can't wait for all you negative people to be John McCain's age and see how you like it when people tell you are old and don't know anything, even though you will probably be very wise and experienced and have a decade or more of good years left in you! OL! You are all a bunch of youngish whiners who clearly haven't lived long enough to go around the block a couple of times! What goes around comes around. I had no idea that Americans believed in age discrimination like this!

Maybe the Dalai Lama can instruct McCain on how to be more positive, to stop smearing and lieing and to develop a vision for the future.

I'm really shocked to see that 41% of Americans support this man with all the evidence that he has nothing to offer. Well, what can I say? Afterall, 29% of the same Americans approve of the job President Bush is doing.

    Wake up AMERICA!!!!!

    OBAMA 08!!!!

Yes My Friends, today I met with the important leader of Tibit, The Doll of Lama. I told him I am watching the border of Tibit and Pakistan very carefully. America will bomb that border if need be because I know how to win wars.

The Dalai Lama meeting with McCain, really won't help McCain.

An individual needs to change oneself, McCain is McSame!

Maybe McCain wants to donate some dollars after the big sell off to InBev to help the Dalai Lama get his Tibet back from China?

    Kenneth in MD,

Please tell me what experience Obama has. It is not just talk and talk. He may be a goor orator but he has no substance. I will vote for John McCain. I also had an opportunity to meet Dalai Lama when i was stationed in Delhi. Sensible people will always accept meeting John McCain. We can trust John McCain for our security, independence and prosperity. Barack is a socialist. Go away.

Maybe the Dalai Lama can get McCain to understand that war is not always the answer. Good for him. McCain needs something like this to help calm him done. I swear I almost saw his head explode at least 5 times this week while attacking Obama.
