McCain has mole removed

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/07/28/art.mccainbandaid.ap.jpg caption="McCain is wearing a bandage after a mole was removed from his head."]

(CNN) - John McCain had a mole-like growth removed Monday from his temple, the McCain campaign said.

Doctors did not think the growth was cause for concern, but it was removed as a precautionary measure, the campaign said. It was noticed during McCain's standard three-month checkup and a biopsy on the mole was planned.

McCain was wearing a bandage on his face as a result of the procedure, but has since removed it.

McCain has had four malignant melanomas removed in the past. Three of them - on his left shoulder, left arm and left nasal wall - were limited to the top skin layer and were not invasive. They were removed in 1993, 2000 and 2002, and all were declared Stage 0, of little long-term concern.

But a fourth melanoma proved to be invasive and was removed from his left lower temple in 2000. He has since been cancer-free.

UPDATE: Speaking with reporters Monday, McCain said he is confident the removed mole is nothing major.

"As I do every three months, [I] visited my dermatologist this morning, she said I was doing fine, took a small little nick from my cheek, as she does regularly, and that will be biopsied, just to make sure that everything is fine," he said.

"But I want to again urge all Americans to wear sunscreen particularly this summer, stay out of the sun as much as possible. Wear sunscreen, and if you ever have any slight discoloration, please go to your dermatologist or your doctor, and get it checked up on. Melenoma is a preventable occurrence. It really is," he also said.

To those posting that his age has anything to do with skin cancer please know that young women today also get breast cancer-a disease once thought to be an older woman's disease.

Reminds of the mole in the Austin Powers movie where the spy (mole) has a huge moleon his face. C'mon people do you really want all the world leaders from doing their best to avoid looking at the big mole on McCain's face if he becomes president?

People of all ages have occasional health issues. Democrates, that's why we want health care for everyone, young and old and everyone in between. So how does a non cancerous mole (thats what the doctors believe) make this any kind of a health issue no matter how old he is. Some of you people who are obvisouly Democrats make me asahmed that I am one also. Take a deep breath and clear your vision.

Would these same liberals making disparaging remarks about McCain's growth removal do the same to Mrs. Edwards? What about John Edward's ability to do his job while his wife suffers from cancer? Epic fail liberals. Epic fail.

I hope the pro-Obama folks in this ticker will spare us the usual witticisms about McCain's age.

If they looked at McCain's mole under a microscope, they'd see Karl Rove!

Now that we all know that McSame doesn't have any foresight or vision and follows Obama's every lead; Obama went to see a doctor this morning for his hip injury and McSame took the cue to go remove his "surge"!!!!!!!

McOld: We already pay for his health care and his retirement, since he's a sitting senator. Even when he leaves the Senate, the deal is intact.

That's in part how his buddy, wealthy Phil Gramm, can sit back and call the rest of us a "nation of whiners" - as we pay his health care bills.

Maybe they should release his mental records.
That I am sure will be the end of his campaign.

You shouldn't talk about Mrs McCain that way. I know, her face is stretched tighter than a bongo, but calling her a mole, might offend PETA.

I certainly hope McCain's condition is not serious, but should this guy be running?

Cancer, numerous physical difficulties, an extremely short fuse, and who knows what sort of psychological issues he has after years of sitting in a box.

Am I the only one worried by the fact that McCain released, for only two hours, over 3000 pages of medical records to a few friendly reporters? And why did he not release ANY psychological records?

    That's scary.

This story definitely tops the "Hillary drinks a shot" from primary season! Why does the American public need to know this worthless piece of information? Relevant issues CNN, relevant issues.

Most aren't surprised by this news. The man is simply too old and seems to be falling apart each day. And some people want to vote for him out of spite or race or party affiliation?

He won't have the strength to carry out daily tasks in the taxing job. He is not mentally and physically up to it. People should look beyond the partisanship and consider what's good for the country at this point in time. A young energetic (and seemingly diplomatic) candidate who works 20 hours per day for seven days a week versus a man (who is pro war) in this 70s who barely works five days a week and still displays syptoms of old age on daily basis. I used to like Mccain but that was years and years ago when he was seemingly up to it, not now.
