Clinton holds 'retirement dinner' contest

(CNN) – No, she’s not leaving politics, but she is still trying to retire more than $25 million of campaign debt.

Sen. Hillary Clinton’s Web site is advertising a contest to win a summer “retirement dinner” with the former presidential contender. The price for a chance to win is a contribution to her creditors.

“Summer is a time for simple pleasures: family vacations, baseball games, and dinner out under the stars,” Clinton’s e-mail to supporters says. “At least it is if you aren't running for president! It sure is nice having a little more time on my hands, and I'd love to spend some of it with you.”

Those interested in helping Clinton retire the debt can pay from $10 to more than $2,300 for a chance to win the dinner and “talk about whatever you’d like.” The campaign’s site doesn’t say where the winner will dine with the senator, but it mentions that round-trip transportation and the total value may run $3,000.

According to the latest filing with the Federal Elections Commission, as of June 30 Clinton is $25 million in debt, over $13 million of which is owed to herself.

Isn't the majority of her money owed to Mark Penn?

JB – I have NO problem with a woman leader. I have a problem with someone wanting to take control of the country's finances when they mismanaged their own so badly! It like the old song says "I can do bad by myself, I don't need no help to starve to to death!"

Please put your money where your mouth is..........prove you believe in Hillary, pay off her debt...just go get a bundle from the other PUMAS and HILLRAISERS..and that should help her at least pay the vendors she owes, those are important. As for Mark Penn and what she owes herself...I am sure she can work something out with Penn.

Sounds like a simple, straight forward, creative approach.

Hey, her supporters claim they're 18 million strong and so dedicated. They should put their money where their mouth is and have all 18 mil supporters 2-3 dollars to pay off her debt, with a bit left to put her over the top.

IF the woman means so much to you, take some of that resentful energy and give a little of yourself.

You'll feel better! Really! You might just rethink that decision to vote McCain.

Why is it that PUMA has not retired her debt with all the hatred they are spewing against Obama?

Truth is most of the PUMA PAC are republicans trying to fool democrats and hillary supporters.

    Vote Obama 08

Don't do it people. Do not help this typical politician. She said for 18 months that Obama wasn't qualified to be president, then tries to get her 18 million followers to vote for him. You have been wronged by the Clintons, Obama and the entire democratic party. Get your revenge by voting for John McCain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What happened to her over 2.5 Million hardcore PUMA supporters CNN keeps talking about? Why haven't they led the effort in settling her debt?

PUMA people are such HUGE supporters of Hillary, or so they say… They say they're even planning to write her name in at the DNC convention. But they won't give a dime to help her move forward past her debt?

Hyporcrites; every last one of them. Put your money where your mouth is RePUMAgnants, or admit you were really either anti-Obama or Republicans all along, aiming to create disunity among the Democratic party and the American people.

You definitely aren't sincere, genuine Hillary Clinton supporters.

SGHCSMA, that's an acronym you can believe in.

And just where does she think the money will come from? Bill signed NAFTA, Bush signed FREE TRADE, and McCain has a problem with us leaving IRAQ (that's costing Billions-A-Month)...DO THE MATH!

I used to respect HRC, and would have gladly voted for her to be the next President, but I'm glad it never came to that now. I've lost all respect for this woman.
She loaned her campaign millions, and wants the public to pay off her debt to herself?
She ran the campaign so poorly that she's millions in the whole. She spend more than she had/made...like all the other Americans that are having problems now with credit cards, upside down housing loans, etc...
She's begging for the people of this country who are suffering themselves to pay off her debt!!! I just can't get over this.
She's an elite. She's super weathly with huge earning potential. As the first woman to ever have a shot at the presidency, she's a huge money maker. Her husband too is full of earning capability.
A good chuck of this debt is owed to herself! Again, sorry for repeating this, but how the heck to you become debted to yourself??? She bet on herself and loss, she shouldn't expect anyone to pay off the portion she 'loaned' her campaign.

Now she is setting up contests? Holy cow.
This lady is killing any future chance of any political office.

Hundreds of thousands in this country are deep in debt and are told to just suck it up, its not that bad, there is no recession, stop your whining. Then the super wealthy ask for us to pay off their debt? Talk about failure to connect with the common people.

It's funny to see how many republicans are pretending to be Democrats. Such childishness is laughable to anyone with some intelligence.

Who would give a penny to a woman who kept on fighting even though she knew since March she had no chance of winning, spending millions of hard won money by her blue-collar supporters. I'm glad though that the majority of her supporters see trough it and aren't giving a dime to that lunatic.

  19. McCain Lies!

Hey Lisa – looks like it don't matter what you do. Have you read these blogs? People aren't crazy about your girl and judging by her debt they don't believe in her either. Continue to bash Obama if that makes your petty mind happy. Don't you hate it though that you can't blame her debt on Obama, it's the result of her poor management of her campaign and its finances. Hahaha

Let’s get over the narrow minded views that we held during the primaries. Simply put, this is a distraction that the DEM Party doesn’t need and I could care less for those of you who adore Hillary, America is bigger than the Clintons. Nuff said.

I just contributed. I will keep contributing. The level of hatred for Hillary from the Obama camp just baffles me. The lady has said she will do all she can to help Obama win and is going on the road in the coming months to help Obama. What else do you want from her? Get a grip on life. She is here to stay. She is strong, she is powerful and she has leaverage. I am not voting for Obama. My vote is not for SALE.

This Hillary supporter will not pay for her debts, let Obamites do the charity. I know for sure that a lot of Obamites have sent money to Hillary already because they need all Hillary backers to get on Obama's bandwagon.
