Clinton holds 'retirement dinner' contest

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/07/29/art.dinner-with-hillary.jpg caption="Clinton's campaign advertises a chance to win dinner with the senator."]

(CNN) – No, she’s not leaving politics, but she is still trying to retire more than $25 million of campaign debt.

Sen. Hillary Clinton’s Web site is advertising a contest to win a summer “retirement dinner” with the former presidential contender. The price for a chance to win is a contribution to her creditors.

“Summer is a time for simple pleasures: family vacations, baseball games, and dinner out under the stars,” Clinton’s e-mail to supporters says. “At least it is if you aren't running for president! It sure is nice having a little more time on my hands, and I'd love to spend some of it with you.”

Those interested in helping Clinton retire the debt can pay from $10 to more than $2,300 for a chance to win the dinner and “talk about whatever you’d like.” The campaign’s site doesn’t say where the winner will dine with the senator, but it mentions that round-trip transportation and the total value may run $3,000.

According to the latest filing with the Federal Elections Commission, as of June 30 Clinton is $25 million in debt, over $13 million of which is owed to herself.

She should worry about her states debt annonced today, It's her job to fix that before worring about a mess she made for herself!

Explain to me how it is the responsibility of a US Senator to fix a state's budget problems.

You, and the many like you, are the reason why the wrong people get elected to office. And you're making sure it happens again this year. Please educate yourself.

No thanks. I have better things to do. It sounds like she is running up more debt anyway. I am glad I support Obama. He manages MY money well.

Note to JB: I'm sorry you feel so upset by all this. (More so than Hillary I'm sure). I am a middle-aged woman and I am not insecure and would love to see a woman as president just not this woman. There are far too many issues with her. She confirmed what a lot of men already think and that is we are too emotional and hard to work with and they are right. I try not to even work with women in my law firm. Don't give up though HRC would make a great house speaker and Supreme Court justice.

I sure wish I could rack up 25 million in debt trying to inflate my ego and status by running for president. Then when knowing I can't win after a few weeks and decide to stay in till the end since my ego can not handle the reality of losing. Now sure I said I had over 100 million when I released my tax records and have the means to pay off my own debt that I created.

But why do that when I can get some idiot fool that still believes in me to pay a lot of money to have dinner with me. And I can get the other fool I ran against to campaign for me to pay off my debt.

What reality does this fool Hillary live in.

    Hey Hill,

Why don't you send old Bill on over to Columbia and make a few deals and you'll be all set. Can you say CAFTA?

Had you used good judgement and got out of the race in March, when it was clear it was over for you, you could have saved yourself and the Democratic party a great deal of money and hard feelings.

    Thanks a lot, Mrs. Clinton.

Hillary had better be on the ticket! This race is staying too close to consider an unknown as the running mate. Hillary '08!

And I think election rules forbid her from paying the bills herself, so that "poor" people can run for something. I doubt she'd be dragging this out when she could easily write a check and move on. It's the rules, people!
(Like the ones that put Obama in in the first place...and that's not sour grapes, that's a fact!)

When she bought the services and products from the venders, did she tell them she didn't have any money and they would have to wait for their money, or did she lie to them? Did she promise to pay in 30 days? Should she go to jail for fraud?

I might give to have lunch with a Senator. Even thought I support Obama, it would great to meet her and say thanks for your service to our country. Do any of you out there in cyber space see this PUMA movement as a real threat. As a DEM I would hate to lose this election due to party infighting. I for one think it is Rove blogging away. Well anyway, it's a good idea. Maybe it might be YOU!!

The Democratic leaders so eager to jump on the ObamaBandwagon, they rigged the nominating process, makes votes count as half, not really letting the people decide. Since they do not value democracy, I will just vote McCain this November and urge all Hillary supporters to do the same.

Simply amazing, CNN. Obama and McCain are competing for the U.S. presidency with Obama coming off a successful overseas tour to refocus again on the economy and CNN (Clinton News Network) spews out free publicity for Hillary's presidential campaign debt.

It is truly a shame for Hillary to be begging for money after the negative and divisive campaign she ran with Mark Penn and others. Her and Bill have earned over 100 million dollars in the last 8 years.

My question is what happened to those 18 million plus voters/supporters Hillary was much touting about in May and early June? Did all the PUMAs max. out their $2,300 contribution?

Sorry Hillary, I'm not paying Mark Penn off for you, that was your decision, and yours alone!

How about spending more time in the office doing what you were elected to do instead of out campaigning for this loser and ruining any chance you have of running in 2012 after the 1st McCain term.

I was happy to donate $50.00 for the T-shirt and will also donate for the dinner. It's not easy, I live on SSDI. but I feel perfectly fine about it.

As far as PUMS donations go, you won't see the bump until the numbers come out in August. The biggrst PUMA pushes for donations started around the 4th of July. The blog I contribute through isn't huge by any means, but since that weekend they've collected about $14,000, remember that just one of over 250 PUMA blogs.

People seem to ignore that she is not asking for her personal loans to the campaign to be repaid by her supporters.

Please feel free to denigrate me as stupid, racist, old, etc., etc., etc. Anonymous insults over the internet have no effect on my self worth.

That is a really bad tactic. This woman who claims to be the voice of millions of WOMEN is resorting to an auctioned "dinner with Hillary"? Sounds way too much like a bake sale to me. As a woman, I would never stoop to this to raise money – it's common and not very creative. Hillary, use your brain and your chutzpah and go on the speaker circuit to raise the dough.

Why doesn't Hillary just get off her broom, wave her wand, and make the debt disappear? She could also cast a spell on Obama and turn him into a frog.

Why is she doing things the hard way?
