Ted Stevens is expected to be indicted this afternoon by a federal grand jury, CNN has learned. A government source and a source familiar with the investigation would not tell CNN what charges are expected to be filed against the Alaska Republican.
Stevens has been the subject of a wide-ranging federal investigation focusing on Alaska state lawmakers and an Energy company in the state.
Steven's Alaska home was searched last July.
Watch: Stevens' home gets raided
FBI and Internal Revenue Service agents searched Stevens' Alaska home in July 2007 in connection with the probe, which has already snared two oil-company executives and a state lobbyist. At the time, he urged constituents "not to form conclusions based upon incomplete and sometimes incorrect reports in the media."
The 84-year-old senator is a former chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee and is renowned for his prowess in steering federal funds to his vast, sparsely populated state. He has represented Alaska in Washington since 1968 and is up for re-election in November.
And the Clean UP begins.
GEORGE BUSH THE WORST PERSIDENT EVERRR!!!
another corrupt republican tied to big oil,and lobbyists.the same people financing mccain's candidacy.
Let's all see how this relates to McCain being like Bush. And old, a flip-flopper, a panderer and in poor health.
Or how this makes Obama "presidential". And how Obama will hope this away, was right about Iraq from day 1 and is the best leader in 200 years.
Go Obamabots, go...
Have you seen the politcal button with Ted Stevens and John Mcain??
It's a promo for Alaska oil drilling and it was "accidentally released pre- maturely.
VOTE FOR BARACK OBAMA ...IT'S THE RIGHT THING TO DO!!!!
Save the wildlife, get rid of the low life!
Oil related I bet. I'm curious as what the charges are.
And when are they going to get Don Young (also Alaska), the bridge to nowhere jerk?
Send him to Guantanamo.
What?!?!?!? Another corrupt Republican lawmaker? Must be a conspiracy by the Clintons- that can be the only explanation.
THE TYPICAL BUSHIE!
How someone like him retains his seat and is constantly re-elected is a joke.Obama 08. Lock them all up.
Republicans go into office wanted to limit government but then quickly come to the conclusion that using government to give businesses special treatment is a way to get paid. The republican party needs to lose BIG this November so they can start over, an actually do the things they say they are going to do.
He's getting exactly what he deserves. Hopefully gets him to resign or the Senate kicks him out... don't know if either will happen.
Stevens is what's wrong with Congress today... someone who's been in Congress long past his expiration date. Gets so high on power that he wields that shortly after Katrina, he'd rather get money put towards building a multi-million dollar bridge in a sparsely populated area in Alaska rather than putting the money towards helping people affected by Katrina. Threatening to quit the Senate if they took money away from his bridge... I wish he'd had quit back then... but hopefully the fallout from this situation will get him out.
wait... a Republican in trouble.... NOOO... this is a brand new trend!
Wasn't this the "bridge to nowhere" guy? Looks like that bridge might lead to federal prison. Welcome aboard!
Yeah! Mister "Bridge to Nowhere" is going somewhere the sun don't shine...Now if porcine Karl Rove would join him and the neo-con crew, the healing could begin...
One down, many more to go.
How crooked do you have to be to get indicted by the Bush Justice Department, I would say a level of cartoonish villany and then some
I guess that bridge in Alaska went a little too far.
Hey John... I agree, but lets get two by two, they built the ark without rudder and certainly no knowledge of direction,EXCEPT TO THE BANk,
they have had too much time, we can't afford any more but lets get the
posse, round them all up and not allow and presidential pardons...
Yup that old-retired white guy from Ma.
Bruce
I am so happy that I learned about this over a series of tubes.
Why do we, as individual states, keep reelecting these criminals to office?
Are people really that dumb or just too lazy to do research?
Gotta be one of the two.
Bring him down! It's about time!
Ah yes, Republicans... what a bunch of sleazeballs – add another one to the list! January can't come soon enough.
Now if they can only get the CORRUPTED BUSH ADMINISTATION OUT OF THE WHITE HOUSE JUST MAYBE WE CAN START TO SAVE AMERICA DEMOCRATS UNITE NOW FOR THE LOVE OF YOUR COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UNITE DEMS UNITE DEMS UNITE DEMS UNITE DEMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
