[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/07/29/art.stevens.gi.jpg caption="Stevens is facing a federal indictment."](CNN) - Sen. Ted Stevens is expected to be indicted this afternoon by a federal grand jury, CNN has learned. A government source and a source familiar with the investigation would not tell CNN what charges are expected to be filed against the Alaska Republican.
Stevens has been the subject of a wide-ranging federal investigation focusing on Alaska state lawmakers and an Energy company in the state.
Steven's Alaska home was searched last July.
Watch: Stevens' home gets raided
FBI and Internal Revenue Service agents searched Stevens' Alaska home in July 2007 in connection with the probe, which has already snared two oil-company executives and a state lobbyist. At the time, he urged constituents "not to form conclusions based upon incomplete and sometimes incorrect reports in the media."
The 84-year-old senator is a former chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee and is renowned for his prowess in steering federal funds to his vast, sparsely populated state. He has represented Alaska in Washington since 1968 and is up for re-election in November.
Republicans are being indicted, McCain is flip floping again by saying what it had critized coming from Obama about the social security tax for income over 250.000 and you find a lot of people still willing to vote for him. Definitely people have the the government they deserve. They should stop criticizing President Bush because McCain is his exact replica.
CNN STOP PUTTING ME IN THE "AWAITING MODERATION FOR EVER LIST"
Just part of the George Bush legacy. To all those people who laughed at sincere Americans counting chads, are you laughing now?
GEORGE W. BUSH –The worst president in modern history. AL GORE, Nobel Prize Recipient, and great American.
With $4.00 plus gas, foreclosures, high food prices, etc…who’s laughing now?
Obama 08
Typical Republican..
I bet McCain nis no different
Another one bites the dust!
Good riddance, crook!
SAY IT AIN'T SO, A GRUBBY CROOKED REPUBLICAN !!!!
HE MUST'VE NOT SHARED WITH CHANEY, BUSH & MCBUSH.
How proud the Republicans must be of their party these days!!!!!!
Bury the bum and then go after the rest of them-
While you are at it, check on Obama's real estate deals in Chicago–
AND MCCAIN HAS QUOTED "SOCIAL SECURITY TAXES WILL INCREASE". IS THERE ANY REPUBLICIAN THAT'S HONEST???
"A series of tubes!!!"
HE HAS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT.
IF HE OUTLIVES THE TRIAL, BUSH WILL PARDON HIM.
THROW THE BUMS OUT. McCain can help him, he was indicted in the Keating 5 scandal.
Please, please, please let the secret out! Follow it to it's source and then connect it to the current McCain campaign issues of energy solutions. This is just the tip of the 'alaskan' Ice Berg and it will lead to many findings as to what the McCain camp and his Oil Allies have in mind for our great country.
I think the truth may be an awakening to many voters, and a service to the country as to how to make the right decision regarding criminal instincts being the foundation of the Republican Party.
We need change, and we need an honest Government. It's time for Obama to take the wheel and lead with integrity.
Another Republican in another scandal. Not surprising.
Not anothe Republican that is on the take? How shocking!
Any chance it's oil related...oh, yea that's right "W" is a greasy oil man too!!! Dump another repulican...Go Obama!!!
As a former resident of Alaska, there is nothing new in any of this. I think most people were aware on some level of the cahootinizing going on with big oil, especially Veco.
Stevens has had a rank and arrogant attitude for years and for that matter so has Don Young. Gone are the days when geographical distance can protect you.
btw...there are a couple of republican state legislators caught up in this as well. The Anchorage Daily News has been reporting it ever since the FBI started checking up on the new construction at Steven's Girdwood home.
JUST ANOTHER GREEDY THIEF, THAT BUSH WILL PARDON.
One dirty politician down ,plenty more to go , Dennis go get Bush and Cheney. Lets not put another one in the white house.
OBAMA 08
Connie from Indiana
The Democrats are just as corrupt as the Republicans, if not more so since there are more Dems in office. Just ask Bill and Hillary.
Texas Liberal
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
You are so correct. I can't understand why people keep voting for Republican. Electing Bush in 2000 was a mistake. Electing him again in 2004 was idiotic.
It's political persecution by a Democratic administration!
Oh, wait...
Why don't we get a soundbite from McCain on this? Here's one of those "pork barrel" spenders he's always saying he prevents....
Run him out on a rail!!
Typical GOP slime. When will people realize that the GOP is corrupt and centers it's platform on money and greed. They could care less about the welfare of the country! For the love of our country – OBAMA '08!!! Get these creeps out of our government!
No more career politicians. Too many have become like an aristocracy: lacking initiative, out of touch with the real world and feeling "entitled.
Time for a change.
