Obama camp launches response ad to 'Celeb'

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/07/30/art.ad.cnn.jpg caption="A new Obama ad hits back at McCain."](CNN) - Barack Obama's campaign launched a new television ad Wednesday night declaring John McCain has taken the "low road" over the course of the presidential campaign - a direct response to the Arizona senator's television spot released earlier in the day likening Obama to celebrities Paris Hilton and Britney Spears.

"He’s practicing the politics of the past," the ad's narrator says as headlines from various medial outlets stating McCain has gone negative flash across the screen.

"John McCain. Same old politics, same failed policies," the ad's narrator also says.

Earlier: McCain camp links Obama to big celebs

McCain's ad, released earlier Wednesday declares Obama "the biggest celebrity in the world," while flashing images of both Hilton and Spears.

"But is he ready to lead? With gas prices soaring, Barack Obama says no to offshore drilling and says he'll raise taxes on electricity. Higher taxes, more foreign oil - that's the real Obama," the ad's narrator says while crowds screaming, "Obama!" are shown.

The McCain ad is the latest in a string of hard-hitting television commercials from the McCain campaign. Earlier spots suggest Obama is playing politics with the Iraq war, is against funding American troops and bears some of the responsibility for high gas prices.

UPDATE: Tucker Bounds, spokesman for the McCain campaign, released the following statement in response to the Obama campaign's new "Low Road" ad: "Pointing out your opponent’s worldwide celebrity is not the ‘low road,' and neither is pointing out that he opposes oil drilling and supports higher taxes.”

"Amen" to that! Great response to McCain's ads/campaign with no direction.

I really DO NOT understand that even after making changes in his (McCain) campaign management, they still have YET had a direction or a clear message. So far, they've only proven that they're great at whinning and playing dirty... 😐

    Barry all the way!

  14. McCain Lied.

An immature, juvenile part of me wants Obama to treat McCain the way he's treated Obama – attacking his character, slinging mud and making insinuations that he hopes will stick with the public. Some of that garbage does stick, after all.

But then I realize that the RIGHT thing to do is continue speaking about policies, issues, and how he plans to fix our broken nation. In the end, good will triumph over bad.

I'm deeply disapointed in Mccain-He once displayed dignity and integrity, but has made a Faustian pack with a Rove like devil to get elected. If the country falls for this turnaround, then shame on us

  18. ACT UP! FIGHT BACK!

I hate negative campaign ads, no matter who launches them. But right now, I think it's the only way to respond. If McStupid wants to waste his piddly campaign dollars on childish, baseless ads intended to try and beat his opponant down, then I say BRING IT ON! But he better be prepared when Obama pulls out the big guns.!

    Poor Poor Obama

McCain is a better man than Obama could ever be.

McCain would be a better President than Obama ever could dream of.

Obama only knows how to smear and run a dirty campaign, he learned well in chicago.

Obama still stutters and stammers when as direct questions about his own policies. Showing he is merely a speech and knows nothing about doing anything, and does not care. He will need his staff under his bed to keep him scripted and informed when needed.

Obama is Mr Hollywood, More interested in his image, than in running the country properly. He is vain, arrogant and a elitest.

Obama will be a figure head of the government, the speaker the orator. while nancy pelosi and the DNC run the government, since he knows nothing and will be busy checking the mirrors for his image.

McSame's Swiftboat attack ad was out for what, five hours, before the Obama camp responded with a smackdown of their own. I like it. Obama is so much better than Kerry and he came close to beating Bush. So McSame has no chance...that's why he has to attack instead of highlighting his successes and plans for the future – which he doesn't have. In light of the banking scandals, I think a great ad would be to rhetorically ask viewers which number was McCain in the Keating 5 scandal of the 1980s – 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5.
