[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/07/30/art.ad.cnn.jpg caption="A new Obama ad hits back at McCain."](CNN) - Barack Obama's campaign launched a new television ad Wednesday night declaring John McCain has taken the "low road" over the course of the presidential campaign - a direct response to the Arizona senator's television spot released earlier in the day likening Obama to celebrities Paris Hilton and Britney Spears.
"He’s practicing the politics of the past," the ad's narrator says as headlines from various medial outlets stating McCain has gone negative flash across the screen.
"John McCain. Same old politics, same failed policies," the ad's narrator also says.
Earlier: McCain camp links Obama to big celebs
McCain's ad, released earlier Wednesday declares Obama "the biggest celebrity in the world," while flashing images of both Hilton and Spears.
"But is he ready to lead? With gas prices soaring, Barack Obama says no to offshore drilling and says he'll raise taxes on electricity. Higher taxes, more foreign oil - that's the real Obama," the ad's narrator says while crowds screaming, "Obama!" are shown.
The McCain ad is the latest in a string of hard-hitting television commercials from the McCain campaign. Earlier spots suggest Obama is playing politics with the Iraq war, is against funding American troops and bears some of the responsibility for high gas prices.
UPDATE: Tucker Bounds, spokesman for the McCain campaign, released the following statement in response to the Obama campaign's new "Low Road" ad: "Pointing out your opponent’s worldwide celebrity is not the ‘low road,' and neither is pointing out that he opposes oil drilling and supports higher taxes.”
If Senator McCain cannot see the difference between Senator Obama and Britany Spears/Paris Hilton, then he is seriously in trouble with his mental capabilities.
Senator Obama is popular... like JFK was...like MLK Jr. was... like Bobby Kennedy was.... like Bill Clinton was....
Both of these Senators have lived a life of privilege while they have been in the Senate. It is beneath the office to start to compare a fellow senator to two sleaxy movie stars.
Oh brother Roland, Borger and Brown just shut up you sound like idiots. McCain's add was hysterical get over it and even Obama compared himself to that bimbo Hilton so he is juvenille to.
The McCain Ad really is pathetic. Let's see – the free world wants a change from the Republican nightmare, and shows it by the hundred thousands and McCain's response is to link Obama to Britney Spears?
Hmm. What is that old lawyer ideal?
When the facts are against you.....
The only thing that frightens me is the troglodytes who think that if the rest of the world likes Obama, then something is wrong with him.
Well, look where those troglodytes have us now...
JDF
Cindy McCain and Pairs Hilton...Now thats a match Both are blond "Barbies" that have done absoluely nothing with their lives except to sit pretty, make millions and do absoluely nothing in the form of charities. COMPARE THAT!
OBAMA IN 2008!!!
Previously, I have had great respect for McCain because he did not indulge in dirty political campaign tactics as did his opponent George W Bush when he defeated McCain in the 2000 primary election. Lately his ads have insenuated untruths and near slander statements. It is a sad day when a person previously held in high esteem by both parties has sunk to such levels.
I'm sure his new staff person Smith is behind these muck racking strategies. Is Smith vying to be the new CarI Rove – the spinner of smut? I regret that McCain allows this type of attacks. Sad for America - the mighty has fallen.
I would be ashamed to be a part of the PUMA Alliance. Dear PUMA's, I will pray for you. Kanas Republican, I will pary for you too. Let us have a president in which we all can be proud. Obama 2008 & 2012.
Peace and Love
McCain has become a very sad Angry OLD Man.
WE ALL REMEMBER WHAT HONOR & HONESTY ARE.
MCNOTHING HAS NOT PRACTICED NEITHER IN ALL
THE YEARS OF "EXPERIENCE" IN HIS PUBLIC
OR HIS PERSONAL LIFE. HE IS A GERIATRIC BUSH.
With so many key issues facing our country and the world around us, who has time for these ridiculous ads and accusations? Let's get on with serious discussions of solutions that we need to address soon!
McCain is just scared of losing. Using gas prices to pander to the uneducated...awesome. Bush himself told the public that opening up offshore drilling is symbolic and would not likely reduce gas prices in the next decade.
Wait until McCain releases the ad showing Obama telling everyone the energy crisis would go away if they would just put air in their tires. Can you imagine if this guy actually got into office? God help us all if that happens!!!!!
John McBush screws up again.
The statement that Obama will raise taxes on electricity is a DOWNRIGHT LIE. Where is the man of honor that McCain pretends to be? Americans were lied to by the Bush – haven't we had enough?
Same Old politics by the Same Old man .....Hit HIM LOW!!!
you go bo!no more republican garbage campaigns!
Fabulous response! It's so refreshing to see consistently positive messages from a campaign like Obama's. And it's so desperate to see negative ads like McCain's (seriously? Vote for me because I'm less popular?!?) And it's true that the McCain camp has taken the low road over and over, while Obama has retained his dignity.
Obama does think of himself as a rock star, he seems to love the adoring crowds. He told fellow democrats this week, he's our hope, what arrogance. He never says anything of substance, just happy talk, talk that his actions never mirror. He should get a job in Hollywood, he might be qualified for that.
Thank God Barack is going to get with those clowns with prompt responses to their lies. We the (real) people can no longer stand John McCain with his Carl Rove political ads.
Just like George W.
Let the games begin! It's an election people.
Heaven forbid the world actually LIKE the American President... that really would be awful. I mean, with worldwide peace, what would Republicans do? Twiddle their thumbs?
Not a bad ad considering how quickly they put it together.
I get awfully tired of hearing the same type of narration in these political commercials, though. Can't the campaigns be a bit more creative in how their ads are voice-acted?
Awww...come on CNN...
Any man, woman or child that believes John McCain is the answer is extremely diluted. Even to hear his supporters, they sound like biggoted fools stuck in the 19th century. Obama's integity is steadfast and unwavering. Even when the world has no problem embracing him, and his neighbors at home attacking him. Obama stays on track and shows that he has no fear, even in the valley. Go Get em Obama!
OBAMA/KANE 08
love the mccain picture. looks like one of those zombies in return of the living dead.
hilarious.
"With gas prices soaring, Barack Obama says no to offshore drilling"
As well as anyone should be. We need to end our dependence on ALL oil, not just foreign oil. John McCain and his "good ole boy" oil buddies are so out of touch with reality and REAL American people.
