Obama camp launches response ad to 'Celeb'

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/07/30/art.ad.cnn.jpg caption="A new Obama ad hits back at McCain."](CNN) - Barack Obama's campaign launched a new television ad Wednesday night declaring John McCain has taken the "low road" over the course of the presidential campaign - a direct response to the Arizona senator's television spot released earlier in the day likening Obama to celebrities Paris Hilton and Britney Spears.

"He’s practicing the politics of the past," the ad's narrator says as headlines from various medial outlets stating McCain has gone negative flash across the screen.

"John McCain. Same old politics, same failed policies," the ad's narrator also says.

Earlier: McCain camp links Obama to big celebs

McCain's ad, released earlier Wednesday declares Obama "the biggest celebrity in the world," while flashing images of both Hilton and Spears.

"But is he ready to lead? With gas prices soaring, Barack Obama says no to offshore drilling and says he'll raise taxes on electricity. Higher taxes, more foreign oil - that's the real Obama," the ad's narrator says while crowds screaming, "Obama!" are shown.

The McCain ad is the latest in a string of hard-hitting television commercials from the McCain campaign. Earlier spots suggest Obama is playing politics with the Iraq war, is against funding American troops and bears some of the responsibility for high gas prices.

UPDATE: Tucker Bounds, spokesman for the McCain campaign, released the following statement in response to the Obama campaign's new "Low Road" ad: "Pointing out your opponent’s worldwide celebrity is not the ‘low road,' and neither is pointing out that he opposes oil drilling and supports higher taxes.”

Stop calling John McCain OLD. Just wait until you get to be a senior in America and see how you're treated. Let me tell you it's not going to be fun.

McCain is ALL WRONG! Obama is actually more like Tom Cruise than Paris Hilton or Britney Spears. Arrogant, delusional (thinks he's already President, tries out his new "seal"), ties to a controversial "church", freezes out any media or anyone with enough guts to pin him down on an issue and keep him there, and has a gaggle of breathless followers hanging on to his every word like he's the Second Coming. Sound familiar.... Scientologists? I don't like this ad, I think the Republicans could do better. McCain could do better, but Obama will never get my vote. And all these people who say he's "hot"? The only thing hot about Obama is the continuous whoosh of hot air as he changes directions every ten minutes.

The Obama ad comparing him to spears and the other moron are
right on. Obama has never had a real job, he has never done anything
of real substance, he is a windbag like the other two as well.
Any working man who has had a real job and paid bills and taken
responsibility for his actions has to trade in his manhood if he votes for
Obama. If you plan on voting for Obama man go ahead and put on a
dress on the way to the voting booth.

Sorry, but ANYBODY, Dem or Repug, talking about less taxes is not living in the real world. Face it, bush's war with tax cuts on the side, has left this country bankrupt! We have a long road ahead and we need to face up to the fact that there aren't going to be any easy or painless answers.

Funny ad that speaks the truth. But Allison- Mclean, Va you should be ashamed by your own stupidity to say those things about Cindy McCain – she is generous, donates her time and money to many good causes. M.Obama does't come close to Cindy.

    McCain is looking so desperate.

Can we just have this election now, so we can get Bush & his cronies out and let the change begin.

I'm just tired of all this cr@p.

  9. Same old politics... from BOTH SIDES

Dems and Reps do the same thing to each other.

Both are annoying and take this so-called "low road."

It's funny reading how everyone thinks it's ONLY one side and not the other...

Shut up McCain! What have you really accomplished from your 30 years in the Senate?

You're just looking and feeling tired right now and have no other recourse than to hit below the belt!

    Shame on You!!

    Obama for President '08

McCain's spokesperson–all sweet innocence–protests that the ad is only stating the truth about Obama as a "celebrity" who stands for tax increases and against off-shore oil drilling. No context–except the addition of the bad girls, Spears and Hilton, to spice up the message. Give us a break, McCain. How stupid do you think we are about politics and politicians. The ad appeals to those whose minds are already set against Obama and nobody else. We who are tilting toward Obama are encouraged to go the whole way by McCain jerk-off ads.

It seems that John McCain is trying to paint Barack Obama as a celebrity, while he is just a regular guy, in his $520.00 Salvatore Ferragamo shoes. Yeah, right!

John McCain has taken another lesson from the Bush family. It is the politics of sleaze. John McCain will now begin the narrative of the negative. His handlers think that the best way to support McCain is to go negative on Obama. Wrong, Senator McCain. All this proves is that McCain is morally bankrupt and is willing to go the way of the Bush family when it comes to competing with ones political opponents. How hard could it be for McCain to remember that the Bush family orchestrated the attack against McCain during one presidential primary campaign that claimed that McCain was the father of a child born without benefit of marriage? Barack Obama will continue to defend himself as he did when Hilary Clinton attacked him. Barack won the Democratic primary campaign despite the best efforts of the Clinton attack machine. My belief and hope is that he will do so again and prevail against the attack machine coming from McCain and will be the next President of the United States.

OMG i love that McCain is going to get slaughtered. I'm waiting to see his response in the debates when they point out that mr military has lower ratings than obama with every major veterans organization.

I think most of the political ads are ridiculous but Jeanne Moos hit a low point when she wasted all of our time reporting on McCain's shoes. I would never vote for McCain for President. Never. But, the man is entitled to buy $520 shoes. So what? We all know his wife is worth zillions and he should dress to maintain that level of social status when he is out and about. Please stop wasting my time with the analysis of shoes!

Whether you lean politically towards Obama or McCain, the McCain ad is objectively ridiculous. Here are some brain-dead bozos, and they are very popular. Here is Barack Obama, who is also very popular. Therefore Obama is a brain-dead bozo. Oh, and add the obligatory tax and energy policy reference so you can insincerely claim it was an ad of substance. Nice old-school political touch. Any candidate that "approves of this ad" is unfit to be president. Either he is confused by basic logical fallacies (Some A are T, Some B are T, All A are V, so All B are V) or he thinks we are too stupid to know we are being insulted. I will not vote for someone who calls us all idiots

McCain only supports offshore oil drilling because it looks like someone's doing something about gas prices. but ANYone with any common sense knows that opening up offshore drilling won't produce any more oil for years; so gas prices will still be high.

the secret is that we need to reduce our demand for oil which is Obama's plan.

Right on, Allison! McCain's misstep of reminding us all how much his wife is like an old Paris Hilton is interesting, indeed. But Cindy McCain's astoundingly flat affect and apparent void intellect, are probably due to the drug problem. It also explains how someone rolling in money as she is, would steal prescription drugs from children in dire medical need of them. Clearly, she has terrible judgment and that continues, with the little "forgot to pay my taxes" issue. Sounds like she needs needs to go to rehab stat.
