Obama camp launches response ad to 'Celeb'

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/07/30/art.ad.cnn.jpg caption="A new Obama ad hits back at McCain."](CNN) - Barack Obama's campaign launched a new television ad Wednesday night declaring John McCain has taken the "low road" over the course of the presidential campaign - a direct response to the Arizona senator's television spot released earlier in the day likening Obama to celebrities Paris Hilton and Britney Spears.

"He’s practicing the politics of the past," the ad's narrator says as headlines from various medial outlets stating McCain has gone negative flash across the screen.

"John McCain. Same old politics, same failed policies," the ad's narrator also says.

Earlier: McCain camp links Obama to big celebs

McCain's ad, released earlier Wednesday declares Obama "the biggest celebrity in the world," while flashing images of both Hilton and Spears.

"But is he ready to lead? With gas prices soaring, Barack Obama says no to offshore drilling and says he'll raise taxes on electricity. Higher taxes, more foreign oil - that's the real Obama," the ad's narrator says while crowds screaming, "Obama!" are shown.

The McCain ad is the latest in a string of hard-hitting television commercials from the McCain campaign. Earlier spots suggest Obama is playing politics with the Iraq war, is against funding American troops and bears some of the responsibility for high gas prices.

UPDATE: Tucker Bounds, spokesman for the McCain campaign, released the following statement in response to the Obama campaign's new "Low Road" ad: "Pointing out your opponent’s worldwide celebrity is not the ‘low road,' and neither is pointing out that he opposes oil drilling and supports higher taxes.”

McCain you are not a war hero – you are a coward – you pretended to be a war hero but you turned your back on the American people by being captured. They should take the citation back as you did nothing while others fought to the end. You are a coward.

You will send young people to war and have them killed while you surrendered. Coward!

Just kidding!!! MCain you are a nice old man with great values and a strong sense of what is right. What a model citzen and a model campaign! Keep up the good work it is sure way to loose!! and a nice way to insult your fellow Americans.

Does Obama oppose new drilling? Yes
Does Obama favor higher taxes on electricity? Yes
Is he being treated like a celebrity? Yes

So, how are these negative attacks? How are they lies?

If you are ashamed of your positions then maybe you should change them.

No, those aren't the low road, but actually blaming Obama for high oil prices is, and its the dumbest thing I've ever seen. When GWB took office, oil was $20 a barrel. McCain and his republican congress were in control for 6 of those 7.5 years.

    Kansas Republican:

    Get an education.

So because Obama responds to an attack, he is someone "not taking punches?" So, now Obama shouldn't respond because you don't like it? Oh yeah, responding is so "girly man" of him. Right.

    What is wrong with you?

Maybe you could get an education if you supported a candidate that believes in making higher education available to everyone that wants it instead of a candidate that literally does not want to sign off on a GI bill to give our troops benefits because he doesn't want it to be easy to get out of the military. Right, that's the guy who "supports the troops". Open your eyes, I'm tired of the ignorance.

McWarmonger went to Europe – they ignored him – they don't want another Bush either.

Hey – you rednecks gonna prove how silly you are AGAIN? Can't you learn anything about the $120 fillup on your 4X?

Get your guns and your bibles, and join the army. Your wife may be recruited for IRAN with Mc Whine.

With citizens like you, the old U.S. of A. is surely going to implode one of these days. To you dopes, politics is just a game and nothing else. And the fact that old Georgie boy got elected twice speaks volumes about your lack of judgement, let alone intelligence. Some superpower! More like superpuke!

It's the bitter and arrogant "blogoholics" who are tearing this country apart. I'm a Democrat, and my Mom is a Republican, and we both felt terrible for how the 51% of the Democrats isolated and ridiculed the remaining 49% and demonized a loyal and hard-working Clinton, a proud Democrat and a patriot for the party.

Now you're at it again, laying insults at the feet of the truth about Obama's inadequacies. Get over the fact that the man does in fact have faults, and has errors in judgement, and perhaps doesn't see as much of the picture as everyone wants to claim.

I think there may be some truth to the add. Albeit a low ball, but some one needs to show the sheep in this country that they are being led astray by nothing more than a celebrity pied piper. I'm glad to see the McCain campaign striving to enlighten people.
I concur with (Kansas Republican) and believe Obama needs to stop having a press conference and calling foul every time a new add comes out.

For all the PUMA haters at continue to run from blog to blog crying over their lose...GET THE HE## OVER IT. Once again 18 million people also voted against HRC. Your numbers do not represent the rest of America, you know those of us with real jobs and real lives. We are a nation of 300+ million strong, your membership of 2000 (that"sll you are) wont even make a dent in the election, why because your not all concentrated in the same state, county or city to make a real impact. If you really care about HRC donate to her campaign, help her out of the debt she created to represent you, that will show true loyalty.

Mr. McCain has decided to offend the younger generation of voters who are showing themselves to be savvy, involved and far above the antics of Ms. Spears and Ms. Hilton. Mr. McCain is out of touch and entirely out of line. This ad is laughable. It is insulting to a new generation of voters. Not a good move Mr. McCain. Go Obama!

Cindy McCain has done nothing with her life? I suggest that you do a little research on her background before you make any further foolish comments. She has a very impressive hands-on philanthropic background that most of us can only aspire to.

I wonder why McAint's millionaire wife's Anheuser-Busch connection, as well as how quickly McAin't dumped his first wife are not becoming campaign issues.

And Brandon Hillary, referring to Barack Obama as "Hussein Obama" speaks volumes about your views.

Obama campaign-you need to return fire with fire, and please be swift. One or two days delay is unacceptable and you might be swift boated so act as fast as possible, as there is no time to take the higher road with mcsurge.

Yeah... Take his licks without crying and throw his punches without sarcasm...

This campaign is supposed to be about the issues we're facing as a nation. Not about dragging each other through the dirt. Unfortunately most voters, like politicians, would rather fight amongst themselves then get things done. Then these very same people wonder why things are the way they are today....

Splitting into different parties was the worst thing that ever happened to politics in this country. Let's think of more ways to divide ourselves. Using common sense is obviously not an option.
