The Paris Hilton comparisons

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/07/30/art.paris.gi.jpg caption="Obama once compared himself to Paris Hilton."](CNN) - John McCain is facing criticism from many Democrats for likening Barack Obama to Paris Hilton, but the Illinois senator made the same comparison himself at a dinner in 2004.

"Andy Warhol said we all get our 15 minutes of fame," then Senator-elect Obama said at a Gridiron dinner in December, 2004. "I've already had an hour and a half. I mean, I'm so overexposed, I'm making Paris Hilton look like a recluse."

That attempt at self deprecating humor was delivered little more than a month after he was elected to the US senate, and just weeks before he was sworn in.

The same comparison was also made in September 2006, when speculation swirled about whether the still-very coy Obama would mount a presidential bid.

Upon speaking at Tom Harkin’s annual Iowa steak fry - a must-attend event for any presidential hopeful - CNN asked Obama about the Paris Hilton comparisons.

“Yeah, exactly,” Obama started to reply before Harkin jumped in and said, “Remember that movie with Robert Redford that was called 'The Natural, about a baseball player? This is the natural of politics.”

CNN, when are you going to cover all the McCain mistakes. This is getting real old. I'm starting to think FOX NEWS has a new partner. I guess you think you will get another ratings boost like you did when you were kissing up to Hillary over Obama.

If I were a financial supporter of MaCain I would be more than PISSED!!! Such ads are such a waste, lack any substance. It shows MaCain has no financial judgment and responsibility. Scary! Very scary!!!

And MaCain questions Obama’s “celebrity” status?!?! They both are public figures. Obama is just more on top and MaCain is acting like a jealously little kid! And MaCain questioning Obama’s ability lead, well I would like to point out that the US needs more than experience to create true change. And a hero title will also not help us either.

Why not question McCain on his constant misstatements and contradictory positions instead of just reporting the latest nasty thing he says about Obama. Oh yeah, that would require the media to do its' job and they don't do that anymore.

When you're down and out, all you can do is make baseless, derogatory statements about the person whipping your butt.

Name calling is all the Weasel can do when he's on the ropes.

    Childless, I say...

a presentation without a proper demonstration is just conversation and that about sums up sen. obama he will go on and on about how he will change the wy thing are done in washinton then goes behind closed doors with all the old war horses to plan the strategy. thats change? he talks about restraints (after mccain used that line and got good response) but then he promisses billions of dollars in programs he can't pay for. were almost broke as it is? his idea of demonstrating restraints is chartering a 757 and renting NFL stadiums to let us pay omage to is magnificence . and oh yes he doesn't buy his children christmas or birthday gifts. real high roller isn't he

Seriously, there are people dying in Iraq, the gas prices are ridiculous, Black people are suffering from an AIDS epidemic and the media thinks that it makes sense to focus on jokes Barak once made about himself? And to resolve what major crisis? Get back to issues folks. Get back to the issues.

That's right, CNN. Don't question McCain on the blatant lies in his attack ads. Don't question McCain on what qualifies *him* as the leader for *this* time. Just parrot the McCain memes against Obama. Do his attack work for him. You're doing a fine job, Brownie. Journalism at its finest.

John McCain is so desperate it is hilarious. His ads are the worst. I agree 100% with Obama on this one – McCain should spend a lot more time talking about, oh say, his policies! Same old, same old.

The comparison is an insult, ingnoring his intelligence and hard work. What has Paris HIlton worked hard at all her life? Lifting the silver spoon. McCain needs to turn over in bed tonight and look at the person that is sleeping next to him. Stricking resemblance on many levels.

First the troops ad that was full of lies, now this.

This ad is indicative of a first year film student. Will this one get pulled quickly as well?

Obama is smart, he is letting McCain spend all this money on ridiculous ads. When Obama starts really putting out the ads, he will be able to outspend him just like he did in the primaries.
