Pelosi offers Veep support for House darkhorse

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Plenty of high profile names are getting bounced around as Barack Obama’s potential running mate. But Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi may have a lesser-known candidate in mind.

Newsweek and other publications say Pelosi has been lobbying for Rep. Chet Edwards (D – Texas). The 56-year-old Edwards is a 9-term congressman representing a district in central Texas that includes President Bush’s ranch in Crawford.

In an interview Sunday, Pelosi said, “I didn't want to see a discussion of candidates for vice president without showing the House of Representatives… I just wanted people to be aware of the extraordinary credentials of Chet Edwards. And I hope he will be the nominee.”

Pelosi told ABC’s "This Week" that “for years, our colleagues have said to him, why don't you run for president? He is an extraordinarily talented person. He is a champion for veterans in the Congress. Under his leadership, we have passed, including just on Friday, the biggest increase in funding for veterans' health benefits and other benefits in the history of our country. “

Pelosi called him “talented:” and “principled.” Asked if she believed Edwards, not a household name around the country, had a chance to be picked, she said, “Well, I would certainly hope so. But, you know what? Senator Dodd, Senator Biden, Senator Hillary Clinton - there's such a great array of people from whom Senator Obama can choose. So, anyone of them, I'm fine with."

Nancy Peolsi is what is wrong with the Dems. Why can't these politicians keep their opinions private?

The VP choice & decision is Barack Obama's, not Nancy's. She should stick to her day job & let him get on with his campaign.

Wake Up Nancy, your dreaming!! You must think very highly of you own opinion. Any WOMAN who will not support another woman is not worth salt or she is so jealous of her that she simply cant bring her self to uphold her. Take your Pick which one you are Nancy, because you have went OUT of you way, to hurt Hillary.

A Pelosi endorsement has exactly how much value?# If that inept Speaker told me it was blue sky outside, I'd definitely bring an unbrella!

She should stay away from this. Obama should make the decision without any interference.

Dear Speaker: Please stay out of this. Isn't it enough that the first thing you did upon getting in office, was to say, "Impeachment is off the table". I don't really care to hear who you prefer for VP>

It won't matter, we will have 4 more years of Bush polices ! The GOP is hard at work on the scare tactics ofr voters, because they work and for a hard working American to vote for a GOPer this time around, is like a Chicken voting for Col Sanders !!

I firmly believe that Obama would be better off picking Hilary Clinton as his vice president. I think that would solidify the women's vote and she is fighter and knows how to make her point.
SAy what you will about her, she is very quailfied to be the president and I wish the ticket would be the other way around, but that is water over the dam and at first I was for Govenor Richardson, but I believe Hillary would be the best that Obama could pick.

Why has Obama lost his lead in the polls?

Why is he not 20 points ahead in a country dismally unhappy with George Bush?

Why is he going to lose in November?

Answers: arrogance, hubris, country club and ivory tower mentality, and a non-patriotic wife.

And what security credentials does he have? Why doesn't everyone just sit back and allow Barack Obama the opportunity of making his own decision?

Nancy – I wish you had been a more effective leader. Lack of congressional accomplishments notwithstanding, backing a guy just because he represents Bush's congressional district as a slap at Bush is a waste of taxpayers money. Don't you have some real work to be doing? If Chet Edwards is so wonderful why hasn't anyone ever heard of him after 9 terms? And what's with backing Hillary as VP now? You went on the record numerous times right after the primaries saying an Obama/Clinton ticket was never going to happen. Now you say you're fine with it? You play politics but don't get anything done in Congress (or should I say, you won't allow anything to get done). You have wasted our money and you're wasting space in Congress. Sad!

Nancy, forget about Edwards! "Talented" and "principled" are the absolutely 2 characteristics bo doesn't want. bo is certainly not "principled" and thinks he's the only "talented" one.

Pelosi is a liar. She promised 2 years ago that Dems would curb high oil prices and look where they are today???? Dems have own house and senate for 2 years and she should be held fully accountable...along with all the other useless democrat leaders who have done nothing.

Anyone hear about how the Republicans stayed in session last week and the Dems shut off the lights on them? At least Republicans want to keep working to solve America's problems...Dems want to do zero except raise taxes...yeah, that will solve everything.

I do not believe most people are paying much attention to Speaker Pelosi anymore.
Her taking Impeachment off the table, plus not standing up to "protect and defend our Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic". Such as not following up on the ignoring of Congressional subpoenas for Rove, Meyers, and Bolton shows a disreguard for the rule of law. If that was you or me, we'd be in jail already. They all think they are above the law.
It is because of her inaction as well as Congress not standing tall against these criminals that many of the people I know, now having the attitude – RE-ELECT NOBODY.
Congress has no one to blame but themselves. A Democratic majority is now in danger of disapearing.
