Pelosi offers Veep support for House darkhorse

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Plenty of high profile names are getting bounced around as Barack Obama’s potential running mate. But Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi may have a lesser-known candidate in mind.
Newsweek and other publications say Pelosi has been lobbying for Rep. Chet Edwards (D – Texas). The 56-year-old Edwards is a 9-term congressman representing a district in central Texas that includes President Bush’s ranch in Crawford.
In an interview Sunday, Pelosi said, “I didn't want to see a discussion of candidates for vice president without showing the House of Representatives… I just wanted people to be aware of the extraordinary credentials of Chet Edwards. And I hope he will be the nominee.”
Pelosi told ABC’s "This Week" that “for years, our colleagues have said to him, why don't you run for president? He is an extraordinarily talented person. He is a champion for veterans in the Congress. Under his leadership, we have passed, including just on Friday, the biggest increase in funding for veterans' health benefits and other benefits in the history of our country. “
Pelosi called him “talented:” and “principled.” Asked if she believed Edwards, not a household name around the country, had a chance to be picked, she said, “Well, I would certainly hope so. But, you know what? Senator Dodd, Senator Biden, Senator Hillary Clinton - there's such a great array of people from whom Senator Obama can choose. So, anyone of them, I'm fine with."

Pelosi should be jailed for aiding and abetting the enemy. Because of her and the democrats refusal to allow drilling offshore and in Alaska, the U.S. is so dependent on foreign oil and we are sending billions of dollars to the middle east only to have much of it used to attack our country and system.

Brad, Democrats didn't give you any of those things you've listed. Republicans spent 6 years creating these problems. It's unrealistic to expect corrections in less than 10 months, especially when the Democrats don't have a super majority.
Republicans had complete control for nearly 6 years! How about giving them a little credit for the disaster they created. Elect a Democratic majority or they still won't be able to turn things around. It's up to the voters.
Brad, you hit the nail on the head. Pelosi is a big do-nothing loser. I hope her state of California votes her out of office. On top of that, she made a sham out of the Democratic primary by urging the super delegates and members of congress to endorse a candidate before the national convention, where they could have voted anonomously. Pelosi is a disgrace!.
Nancy seems rather out of touch oftentimes. Texas is not in play even with a Texan VP. Edwards does not really broaden the ticket, bring foreign policy experience that Obama lacks or really will create any interest. She said again this week that the surge did not work. Well, a majority of the people think it did; so maybe dropping that talking point would be a good idea. Her get out of town for recess without any measures on drilling for domestic oil and gas; so her members can get blasted at home in their districts doesn't seem like a good move either. 75% of the public wants to expand domestic production. Even if she thinks they are wrong, don't they call members of Congress "Representatives" ? Give the members a chance to represent their voters.

What possible interest can there be in anything Nancy Pelosi says? She did her best during the primary campaign to divide the Democratic Party, and she's accomplished virtually nothing as Speaker of the House.
At best she can be described as dysfunctional, at worst destructive, Karl Rove in a dress (and a fairly unimpressive face lift).
What I don't understand Madame Speaker is that you was so against Senator Obama picking Hillary Clinton for VP and yet you suggest someone whom no one has ever heard of. I am not quite sure how this helps Barack Obama get elected.
