Pelosi offers Veep support for House darkhorse

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Plenty of high profile names are getting bounced around as Barack Obama’s potential running mate. But Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi may have a lesser-known candidate in mind.

Newsweek and other publications say Pelosi has been lobbying for Rep. Chet Edwards (D – Texas). The 56-year-old Edwards is a 9-term congressman representing a district in central Texas that includes President Bush’s ranch in Crawford.

In an interview Sunday, Pelosi said, “I didn't want to see a discussion of candidates for vice president without showing the House of Representatives… I just wanted people to be aware of the extraordinary credentials of Chet Edwards. And I hope he will be the nominee.”

Pelosi told ABC’s "This Week" that “for years, our colleagues have said to him, why don't you run for president? He is an extraordinarily talented person. He is a champion for veterans in the Congress. Under his leadership, we have passed, including just on Friday, the biggest increase in funding for veterans' health benefits and other benefits in the history of our country. “

Pelosi called him “talented:” and “principled.” Asked if she believed Edwards, not a household name around the country, had a chance to be picked, she said, “Well, I would certainly hope so. But, you know what? Senator Dodd, Senator Biden, Senator Hillary Clinton - there's such a great array of people from whom Senator Obama can choose. So, anyone of them, I'm fine with."

I find it very strange that this country should fear the popularity of Obama in Europe. And then I read the blogs left here and understand that most of the people slinging the crap, are left over Hillary supporters. Tell me people are you willing to wait for her four years from now? We do not have four years! We cannot wait for the once impeached Clinton's to save us. Your anger fills the hearts of Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh and theru followers. I have been a republican for forty years and I wouldn't vote for anyone but Obama. Just imagine, a president that the rest of the world likes!

Please, Please, Please be quite! You threw Hillary under the bus and now you think she could be Obama's VP-there is not the remotest posibly that he would ever consider her. Both candidates should be in the race to the convention and indeed they both would be if Hillary had been a man! I don't blog much anymore, but consider myself part of a very large quiet hard working educated majority that are very disappointed in the Democratic Party, Obama, the news media and extremely concerned of the Sate of this Union.

If McCain wins, we'll go with Obama in 2012. Then 2016, then 2020 until he is president. If Hillary couldn't defeat Obama in '08, she has no chance in 2012. The only criticism of Obama is that he hasn't become a Washington insider yet. He'll be one in a few more years.

Rep. Chet Edwards endorsed Obama during the March 4 primary and has been mentioned as being on the on short list. He's a serious consideration. He's highly educated in economics (MBA Harvard Business School) and has high credentials, just as Speaker of the House Pelosi says. Being from Texas doesn't hurt either.

Pelosi Lugosi. What a monster. Two years the Libs have had the Congress and done nothing but try to get rid of Bush. Idiots everyone of them. She, Reid, Biden, Kennedy and all the Libs in Congress are an example of bad things happening win stupid people gather in large groups.

Sorry Pelosi I, for one, have had enough of cowboys from Texas. I hope you stop pushing this person on America. You, in my eyes, have lost all creditability since you threw Hillary under the bus. I suggest you mind your own business and do the job you were elected to do.

Pelosi is a looser, like her choice for President will be. I hope all those super-delegates are watching and listen to Obama real close. Obama is merely the presumptive nominee, they can still vote for Hillary if they realize their mistake in time to change their minds. Obama changes his mind daily. I guess that is the change you can count on?

  12. Who Am I said:

    "McCain '08 for Clinton '12"

What a HORRIBLE concept!! Talk about setting up this country for ruin... An absolutely ghastly outcome. McCain will screw us down so deep into the Bush legacy that we can never escape ~~ then put in
The Clintons again to throw so much of their grease on the works so that the only hope we have of extracating ourselves is starting WWIII...

I pray this is not the way it goes down.

Barack, anything this woman is in favor of, please run away from! She has done more to wreck the Dems in the House...and give us all a bad name. Had she impeached as soon as she took over, she MIGHT have some credibility, but no more. I pray she loses her election in CA so we don't have to see her any more. And now, she says Hillary would be a good choice? HHHMMM...the CA Hillary voters must be pulling for her rival.

I think readers should educate yourself about this guy first before they bad mouth him and run off into oblivion. Go to his website, its easy to google and than you know who the guy is. He is and has been a great champion for the veterans and is a man of faith. He has received many awards for all the great work he has done for our men and women in the military and on the military appropriation committee. Has served for many years. Educate yourself first before spout off your. I am a Republican and this man is a great guy and a very conservative democrat. I am starting o wonder why I am a Republican since it seems to have become the party of unintelligent morons who just spout off without any intelligence or information. Watch some C-Span and some hearings and you might learn something in the process. McCain is not going anywhere and I would be delighted to have this man serve as a VP for out Nation, he brings a lot of experience, faith and conservatism with him. Probably more than McCain LOL.

the majority of voting americans cannot be as goofy as some of the comments, and professional commentary, that have followed barack obama throughout his campaign for president. america faces a simple choice: does it wish to stay rooted in the politics and ideologies of the past, or go forward successfully into the future? as in the time of abraham lincoln, americans may have to make a bold choice in spite of themselves in order to preserve unity going forward into the future.

I think she would be smart enough to keep her nose out. There is a all out try to have her lose her job . She has caused so much trouble for the party along with Obama and Dean that sooner or later one would be smart enough to keep their mouth shut.

Stop your whining people. Everyone knows that it doesn't matter who Obama chooses as VP. Whomever he chooses will be the best for America and the interests of every American. McCain will continue to bring down the country and our reputation across the world. We need to vote for the future of America and that's Obama. Let's send our country in the right direction!
