McCain camp mocks Obama's comment on inflated tires

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) - Mark Salter, a top adviser to John McCain, gleefully distributed tire pressure gauges to McCain’s traveling press corps on Monday morning, a sight gag meant to mock Barack Obama’s remark last week that “making sure your tires are properly inflated” could help conserve gasoline.

Before departing for Pennsylvania, Salter told the press on board McCain’s plane that campaign staffers had brought along copies of Obama’s energy plan for reporters to study during the trip. After takeoff, Salter re-emerged with his punch line, passing out the pressure gauges reading “Obama’s Energy Plan” to the journalists on the flight.

The Republican National Committee said McCain supporters in Michigan were planning to distribute the same gauges at Obama’s energy speech in Lansing today. McCain's campaign manager Rick Davis also e-mailed supporters, offering a tire pressure gauge in exchange for a donation of $25 or more.

Last month, McCain's campaign also gave reporters covering the presumptive Republican nominee as Barack Obama's traveling press pool traveled overseas with the Illinois Democrat a fake European press pass.

Earlier: McCain press passes go continental

The pass featured a shot of the Statue of Liberty in front of an American flag, and the words: "McCain Press Corps/JV Squad/Left Behind To Report in America." The back had a picture of a man sporting a beret and a neck scarf, standing in front of a silhouette of the Eiffel Tower and pouring a glass of wine.

UPDATE: The Obama campaign points out that McCain backers like Florida Gov. Charlie Crist and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, as well as NASCAR, have promoted good tire maintenance as a way to manage fuel consumption.

CNN, where's the picture of McCain's idea of his energy plan. You know, the picture of McCain's wallet-stuffed with cash, with SUCKERS imprinted on it !

Funny ha ha. However, if our tires were at the proper air pressure, we could save 3% of all gasoline used in this country. that's a pretty good sum of gasoline saved. that really IS one way to save gasoline. People have been saying that for years.

For McCain to make fun of that comment, just shows more of his negativity. His negative campaign is going to hurt him in the long run.

I can't tell you how disappointed I am in the Republican Party. Because they chose a candidate without any plan or policy I expected an attack campaign, contrary to McCain's promise not to go negative, but this is middle school maturity and is a sad state of affairs in America.

Hey – what a prize – it will surely fool the fools that were fooled the last two elections.

McCain will die or get sick in office and his appointee (VP) will be pres. Deal with that one, you fools. You want a Jewish man or a Mormon for presedent? No votes on that one !!!!!!!! Just appointment.

Obama's going to have a hard time with an energy plan that suggests Americans actually have to start DOING things differently. Living differently. McCain will score with a plan that suggests we don't have to change our behavior. McCain's plan will be very good for McCain and very very bad for America and the world.

Oh, c'mon, is McCain's camp that juvenile? Are these gauges a good way to spend the campaign's money? I think not.

Every single auto manufacturer, as well as tire companies, say that by keeping your tires properly inflated it will help with gas mileage.

According to McCain, his campaign staff and Sen. Leiberman, the Paris/Britney ad and the Moses ads are meant as "just having a little fun". They are not funny, they are demeaning to the entire election process!

Now they have the tire gauges. I hate to think what's next.

Stop with the attack ads and all the negativity. Get to the issues.

Yuk, yuk, yuk....those Republican guys are so funny–NOT.

They are such babies. They can win a fair fight, they have to talk about their opponent on a personal level. It won't work and they won't win.

When is Karl Rove going to jail for crimes against Americans?

Glad McCain isn't taking this whole running for president thing seriously. C'mon folks, he's treating this like it's a popularity contest at your local high school.
Lets crack some sight gags about what the other guy says!

Ignoring that Obama is right, and the effect that it would have on our country if everyone actually did all the little things that could help our environment, this is typical McCain style here.
Don't bother to offer up an original ideas, just mock and attack. Don't worry McCain...once Obama unveils his plan, you'll have a few days to copy it down and present it like your own...like every other idea you've had so far.

What an utterly, inexcusably lame gag. Neither funny nor clever in the slightest, this ranks just below "BarakBook", which stands alone in its epic, Monolithic shadow of lameness.

Is this the same way you will deal with the leaders of the world? Make jokes of them. And you want to lead this country? Looks like the joke will be on you. Grow up little short man and stop wasting your donors money like your party wasted the country's funds.

By the way keeping your tiers at the proper air pressure and your window closed do increase your mileage. Even as a women I know this. You McCain is a complete idoit. Maybe if you rep. had put this much energy into solving problems maybe you would have had a better
rating for your party and the idoit Bush.

Keeping your tire pressure adjusted DOES lead to better gas mileage. It makes a difference of several miles to the gallon in my Civic Hybrid. If every car in America could go a couple of miles further on every gallon of gas–it would constitute a significance reduction in gas consumption. If everyone moved to fuel efficient cars, demaind could be greatly reduced. McCain, as usual, is misleading the public. It's what Republicans do best.

cynical much McChimpy? I'm not liking the whole bitter, pissed off old white guy with nothing good to say routine. McSame is all about doom, gloom, fear, war and no hope, unless we want to be happy as slaves to big business and big oil. Its time for change and a president that can turn us around from the last 8 years....

I guess McCain does not realize that is going to take more than just drilling on our shorelines. McCain's campaign at this point should be ashamed at its tatics, and I can no longer support this canidate. I guess that leaves me Obama.

Way to lighten the mood, great timing with all "The Chosen's" whining about race.

I'm sure Obama will flip flop after seeing this... Calling on all American's to deflate their tires.

McCan't is desperate. All he does is attack and joke around. It would be nice if he actually had some solutions to offer. At least Obama is on the trail offering real solutions, rather than mocking the democratic process and instilling fear into voters. McCain's campaign is a joke.

I'm going to donate again to Barack. McSame can shove that tire gauger up his old, out-of-touch, flip-flopping, lobbyist-loving, Bush-hugging behind. He deserves that butt-whooping that's coming to him and his ilk.

Keep up the good work Obama. You've reminded us how little things like keeping our cars well managed helps. These little things add up, sort of like 2 million people giving $5, $25, or $50.

    To The Media:

Reporters are stupid. I'll never forget the last time the heat was on Karl Rove. He told George Bush to pick his selection for the Supreme Court (Roberts), and presto, chango-the heat was off of Karl Rove.

Grow up and report on the crimes against America.

Proper tire inflation could help if you travel a great deal also slowing down some. What doesn't help is the mocking! Matter of fact i'm turned off by someone who does not promote any solutions. McCain would rather joke, laugh or mock what America is going through.

WELL IT IS NOT FUNNY THE SHAPE WE ARE IN! FACE REAL ISSUES. I DIDN'T LIKE THE JOKES ABOUT WOMEN OR BOMBING OTHER COUNTRIES AND I STILL DON'T.
REGRETLY THAT DOES NOT SOUND OR LOOK PRESIDENTIAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
