McCain camp mocks Obama's comment on inflated tires

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) - Mark Salter, a top adviser to John McCain, gleefully distributed tire pressure gauges to McCain’s traveling press corps on Monday morning, a sight gag meant to mock Barack Obama’s remark last week that “making sure your tires are properly inflated” could help conserve gasoline.
Before departing for Pennsylvania, Salter told the press on board McCain’s plane that campaign staffers had brought along copies of Obama’s energy plan for reporters to study during the trip. After takeoff, Salter re-emerged with his punch line, passing out the pressure gauges reading “Obama’s Energy Plan” to the journalists on the flight.
The Republican National Committee said McCain supporters in Michigan were planning to distribute the same gauges at Obama’s energy speech in Lansing today. McCain's campaign manager Rick Davis also e-mailed supporters, offering a tire pressure gauge in exchange for a donation of $25 or more.
Last month, McCain's campaign also gave reporters covering the presumptive Republican nominee as Barack Obama's traveling press pool traveled overseas with the Illinois Democrat a fake European press pass.

The pass featured a shot of the Statue of Liberty in front of an American flag, and the words: "McCain Press Corps/JV Squad/Left Behind To Report in America." The back had a picture of a man sporting a beret and a neck scarf, standing in front of a silhouette of the Eiffel Tower and pouring a glass of wine.
UPDATE: The Obama campaign points out that McCain backers like Florida Gov. Charlie Crist and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, as well as NASCAR, have promoted good tire maintenance as a way to manage fuel consumption.

this is cute. This is the best idea McCain has come up with. It' sad that his best ideas are only to mock someone. His Idea on getting off of oil, foreign and/or domestic, is to drill for more oil. Why not focus more on trying to utilize and improve renewable energy instead of you main stay being more drilling, which is something McCain was against until he got backing from oil companies.

I applaud the McCain campaign for giving away tire pressure gauges. If you don't have a pressure gauge in your glove compartment, buy one. It will pay for itself very quickly.

Properly inflated tires do help to improve gas mileage. There are lots of small things that drivers can do themselves to help conserve gas and save money. I don't really see why this is a point for criticism.
CNN when will you call Mcain's campaign out on all the twisting of words, shifting positions and outright lying attacks? If someone actually reads the entire comment they will see this is yet another cheap unimaginative stunt on the part of the GOP.
Honestly if Obama did or said half the gaffs McCain has he would have been driven out of town a long tie ago. I realize creating the illusion of a tight race is in your best business interest at some point you need to start hammering the McCain campaign equally.

And as for Chuck- Given the bigoted sentiment you just showed I'd be willing to bet that Obama and McCain have pretty much the same odds of making it to their 2nd inagural. Rick Warren is inviting Barack Obama to the obviously Republican Civil Forum because he knows no one would care if he had just invited McCain. So in order to get publicity, he invited Barack, knowing he wants to push Republican ideas.
Is this what the McCain camp has reduced itself to? Rather than offer legitimate solutions to the major problems in our society, they sit back & criticize everything Barack Obama says. And this is actually what some people are going to vote for? Are there really people in our society that can be that easily swayed? If you're an Obama backer & see the "Obama is a rock star" ad, you suddenly become a McCain backer? Are you kidding me? Is that all it takes to change your mind? I hope Obama just sticks to the issues & doesn't stoop down to this sorry method of campaigning. I just can't believe that people would rather hear negative campaigning than listen to possible solutions to the energy problems or a resolution to the war. When will McCain stop talking about Obama and start talking about himself (and by that I don't mean his POW biography)? If Obama is out of the picture, what in the hell will McCain do as president? What are McCains policies to get our economy on the right track, lower the inflation of the dollar, reverse the mortgage crisis, restore America to its good name around the globe, put American on the track to become the world's leader in comprehensive energy reform, fix our infrastructure, lower gas prices and the resolve the illegal immigration problems. Vague and unsubstantiated remarks do not suffice. Also, it is inane for McCain to make this allegation about Obama's energy policy. As if Obama's entire energy policy hinges upon the resolution to properly inflate tires. How does McCain expect me to vote for him when he has yet to convey what he will do (in comprehensive terms) as president? When will someone call McCain's ads for what they are; blatent lies. This is silly season for McCain's campaign. Imagine what his presidency will be like.

Seems McSame loves the statue of liberty – here is what the stupid bribed MSM has refused to dig up or report to the american people since McSame accused Obama of injecting race into the campaign by predicting that Republicans would try to scare people by reminding them that he "doesn't look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills." As Ben Smith reported in Politico on Aug. 1, a McCain ad back in June showed Obama's face replacing Ben Franklin's on a hundred dollar bill and the statue of liberty!
these are the same people that mocked carter's ideas in the 70's. think how much progress toward energy independence would have been made in the last 30 years if we'd listend to Jimmy Carter all those years ago.
