McCain: Congress should reconvene, vote on energy bill

"Drill here, drill now," McCain said Monday.

(CNN) - Presumptive Republican nominee John McCain called Monday for immediate congressional action on the nation’s energy crisis, joining a call by his Republican colleagues for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to call legislators back from their August recess for a special session.

The Arizona senator said he would return to vote on any proposal. McCain has missed Senate votes since April, including several involving major energy measures – one of which, a summer gas tax holiday, was a standard element of his spring stump speech.

  3. Listen to the McBoss?

If in 7and1/2 years the Republicans didn't do anything in Congress why on earth would another four weeks matter?

Ooohhhh it's an election year, that's right now you care!

I say stay home Republicans and take GW home with you. The American people are tired and not even the immortal Ronald Reagan resurrected will save you at the polls this election.

Weren't the Republicans and their Boss GW Bush already on vacation during Hurricane Katrina? Oh well...

He hasn't been there since April and now he wants a special session!!! McCain's obviously got jokes!!! Not sure how him calling for congress to reconvene is going to do the trick. They're listening to him like they listen to Bush right now.

    Can we say "LAME DUCK!!!"

Just figures why should they come back. They haven't done anything up till now. What makes you think holding them over will do any good. A house divided will fall and we are teetering very hard.

obama is unfit to be president of this country August 4th, 2008 2:06 pm ET : Obama supporters are the lowest life form on this planet. Who are you slimp people with such dirty mouths and minds. There's nothing intellengent about you. You know, obama may very well win (steal) the presidency but ALL you sick people will be scumbags for the rest of your life. You'll never change. You will always be the litter that fills our streets.
And so we're the negative scum, right? Funny, I live a fairly moral life, and my morals tell me that the above statement is sorta "scummy"... I don't know. Uh... respect?

Obama gets more negative press, more negative bloggers, more baseless bashing of his proposals... this reminds me of the football player heading for a TD with about fifty guys hanging on him. If he DOES make it, it will be amazing. No thanks to people like the above.

I think McCain needs to use one of his new (probably made in China) gas gauges to check the pressure between his ears. This guy is so full of hot air! The American people are sick of these lame stunts ...the GOP only seems to have real concern for the "American People" when their political hides are at stake. We've had almost 8 years of their over-inflated rhetoric and empty promises. Time for a CHANGE!

Give me a break, McCain. If this guy is going to go back to Washington to vote on any proposals that come forth, he's going to need directions to get there – it's been a while.

McSwayin' in the wind seems to be about 3 months behind in his thinking. Hasn't voted since APRIL! Veterans for McCain should note he didn't vote on the benefits for veterans, and had the gumption to complain about Obama not visiting the troops in Germany.

Drill drill drill...... The new McCain/Bush song.

Stop giving the billion $ tax breaks to the oil giants like Exxon Mobil so that we can reduce the oil price somewaht.

Just drilling will not make it. In fact it will bring more profits to Exxon Mobil if not well planned.

We need an overall strategy and not a political game.

John you are right, however, Pelosi knows she would get her butt kicked.

This is why NOBAMA will be defeated.

If they care this little about us now, what will they do if they are completely in charge?

    Politics as usual.

Down with Pelosi, Reed, and Obama.

All three are out of touch. This is coming from a Democrat.

Apparently, all three would see an end to the American Way of Life to promote thier liberal agendas.

It's time to take these ultra liberals out of office.

Moderate Dems for Hillary. No empty suits need apply.

Nevermind that when the Republicans ran Congress they took more breaks than a little bit. I do think they should come back, but McCain calling on them is more of the same ol' B.S.

Please tell me the American public won't be stupid enough to fall for this republican stunt?

You (republicans) had the past 8 years to do something and sat on your butts just raking in the dough, helping out your oil buddies and Haliburton. The Democrats are not to blame for your misuse of office.

Considering you don't show up half the time to vote and are busy playing in Sturgis SD today, why do you care?

McCain is married to the oil companies. They have contributed generously to his campaign. He will look after their interests before considering the American people.
