(CNN)—Academy award winning actor George Clooney is set to host a fundraiser for Barack Obama in Switzerland next month.
The event, taking place on the evening of September 2 in Geneva, Switzerland will be split into two parts: a reception and a dinner. According to Obama’s National Finance Committee, tickets for the reception where Clooney will speak are going for $1,000, followed by a dinner at the home of NFC member Charles Adams for $10,000 a plate. Space for the dinner is limited to 75 guests.
Clooney made headlines in February when he told CNN he was hesitant to campaign for the presumptive Democratic nominee, calling it a ‘slippery slope.’
“I feel that at times you can harm the person that you are trying to help,” Clooney told CNN’s Kiran Chetry in reference to campaigning for Obama. “I don’t want to damage anybody.”
Watch: Clooney won't stump for Obama
The Academy Award winning actor officially endorsed Obama early last year calling him a ‘rock star.’ Clooney compared him to the likes of John and Robert Kennedy saying, “Few people in my lifetime, that I’ve heard speak made me want to get up and do something,” but cautioned, “I don’t want to hurt him by saying that.”
Although next months fundraiser is taking place overseas, the campaign specified only U.S. Citizens with a passport will be allowed to contribute to the campaign.

I knew there was a reason I liked George Clooney besides the fact that he is a really good actor. Of course, now you know that by tomorrow, McStupid will jump on this and come out with one of attack dog ads. Something like"Only Clooney could host a party for Moses!"There is absolutely nothing wrong with hollywood hosting galas and fundraisers. They always have done so. Of course, McStupid would see nothing wrong with hollywood doing the same for him. He will find something wrong with it, I know. He has nothing good to say about anyone who disagrees with him. Typical republican bull--!
Mr. Clooney,
You have the right to endorse anyone that you want to, and it's cool that you have a voice that commands attention on the national stage. Don't worry about a bunch of chumps that would berate and insult you, or possibly damage Barak's candadacy – simply because of your endorsement. I have a feeling that the GOP attack machine will be focusing on a wide array of imignary threats and truth distortions – not just you ultra-liberal, elitist, media-controlling Hollywood personalities.
Obama should make sure he attends this event and that he is photographed with ALL of the other "Celebs" ! IN YOUR FACE McCain... Since when is it unpopular to be popular? That ad McCain put out about Obama shows how out of touch and clueless McCain and his goons really are about voters. Teens and Tweens support Britney and Paris by buying into the hype... Let's not forget it's their parent's money they are using to make these Celeb's popular.
Way to go Mr. Clooney, I'm def. gonna go out and rent more of your movies 🙂 Great to hear, i bet Mccain's smear campaign is what pushed Clooney to do this after being hesitant, thanks Mcidiot!
Clooney for VP!
As a fellow democrat, my admiration and respect for George Clooney just went out the window.
so?
C'mon George – can't you tell the difference between a game player trying to score points with the American voter by flip-flopping every other day and the real article? You would think with all of your good works in Dafur – you would recognize a fraud when you saw one.
Hey, it's not Obama's fault if he gets the attention of the rich and famous in Hollywood, even the smart among them know a good thing when they see one. 🙂
Yeah, I like Clooney but I wish Hollywood would just keep out of politics. It actually cheapens the whole process, makes it look fake. Next thing Barbara will be out singing. I love Barbara, but please let us stick to the issues and forget the celebrity aspect. Obama is a celebrity too and people do not want to have a celebrity in office otherwise we could have asked Britney or Lindsay Lohan to take the job.
Who even cares!!!!
Obama is just one big phony! He thinks that he is better than the rest of us! What a joke!
Soon it will come out how Obama screwed over Hillary Clinton in order to get the votes needed to become the nominee.
Hillary Clinton should be the nominee, and the delegates should all vote for her at the convention, and make her the nominee instead of the phony Obama.
I am one of those Hillary Clinton voters that will write her name on the ballot, or will vote for McCain, long before I would vote for such a losing phony!
Yes, Clooney, you will not harm Obama because people will not vote for Obama anyway. You just show us your acting, nobody will trust you either.
okay CNN, nice photoshopped picture.. Next you'll do a McCain and Paris Hilton.. oh wait, you have one of those..
Seems Miss P has her own too.... (It's Hot)
Where she OWNS McC.
Clooney is great looking.. thanks for that..
Yes ..We..Can...
Obama/Clooney... 2008, 2012
Oh, Heavens, no! This is such a huge mistake!!!
Clooney had made such a point that he understood how risky high-profile celebrity campaigning is. What happened??
Hasn't Obama learned a lesson from his recent trip, how McCain was able to get HUGE mileage from the images of European adulation???
And now, he is going to step in two piles of #$%#$% at the same time: celebrities and Europeans! And all this in the week or two after the conventions????
Is Obama TRYING to lose??? Why not just concede now? This will cost Obama a good 5 to 10% in the polls in one fell swoop.
And the sad thing is that, should Obama realize the mistake and cancel the event, McCain will eat him alive for that change of heart.
Um...these guys are really stupid. Holding a fundraiser in SWITZERLAND is the last thing they ought to do. They will deserve all the flak that the Repubs make out of this. Campaigning and Fundraising need to be done in the USA. Exclusively.
Good for you, Clooney
Thanks Mr. C.
Who cares? Perfect crowd for him, he thinks he's a celebrity too. I would rather have a serious president as opposed to one running around with Hollywood stars.
No talent, no brains.
Goes perfectly with empty vessel, empty words, empty (and changing daily) ideas.
Try picking up your neck while your "acting", same tired character in every role, just a hollyweird favorite because your ideas are not of regular folks.
Hey David, try suppressing the CAPS LOCK, it makes you look even more clueless in CAPS.
now you can understand why the gop call senator obama a rock star that 's because the star are behind him, gwen patrow, george clooney and host of stars. thanks george and the rest of the starts for back obama the next president 08
way to go george!thank you!!!!
Is this supposed to convince us he has more foreign policy experience because he can raise money in Europe?
McCain would die with envy.
Clooney is as "full of himself" as Obama. One "pretty boy" supporting another! Nothing more! Go away, Clooney - you're only a "movie star," which means you read scripts and act them out - just like Obama. Nothing more!
Looney Clooney–another Hollyweird rocket scientist..Doesn't know reality from fantasy.
