A role reversal for McCain, Obama campaigns

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="While Barack Obama is on vacation, John McCain is hitting the campaign trail."]
(CNN) - It was a familiar scene the past couple of months: Barack Obama out on the campaign trail during the weekends while his, John McCain, was off the trail.

So call it a role reversal this weekend.

The Democrat’s presumptive presidential nominee is in Hawaii this weekend and all next week. So what’s on his agenda? Here’s what he said upon arrival in Hawaii Friday night: “I’m really looking forward to spending some time with my family, having a chance to see my grandma.”

Obama grew up in Hawaii and his grandmother and other relatives still live there. But while his plan for the week is some R and R, it’s a safe bet this could be sort of a working vacation for him.

Why? Because the Democratic National Convention kicks off in Denver two weeks from Monday, and Obama needs to start thinking about his nomination acceptance speech.

But there’s another reason. Obama has a big thing on his to do list before the start of the convention, and that’s pick a running mate.

McCain, meanwhile, is on the campaign trail all weekend. He’s in Las Vegas Saturday, to address the 87th annual convention of the Disabled American Veterans.

On Sunday, the Senator from Arizona will campaign in Erie, Pennsylvania. He’ll team up with Erie native Tom Ridge. The former Secretary of Homeland Security and former Pennsylvania Governor is considered to be in the running as a candidate as McCain’s running mate.

Asked by reporters Friday night about taking down time, McCain said even when he isn’t on the campaign trail, he’s still working hard on his campaign.

“What we try to do is take a day or two down. But it seems that when I do that, then they fill it up with briefings and prep and issues and meetings. Since our schedule is public. Last Saturday, ok that is a down day. Start out with meetings and it lasts all day long until the evening,” said the Republican’s presumptive presidential nominee.

Interesting that John McCain is considering Tom Ridge who hasn't lasted a hot minute at any job before Bush let him go. Republicans are looking ahead at 2012 and don't expect McCain to win.

Wonder if McNasty will have Cindy audition as a show girl in Vegas. He says she dresses and makes herself up like a Trollop. And a Vegas showgirl is a step above being Miss. Buffalo Chip.

Obama needed a day off to clean all the crap off his shoes that Republicans have been throwing at hin in hopes that he will slip. It aint going to happen. McCain is an idiot, and so is the rest of the republican party.

While you are visiting the disabled vets, my friend, are you going to explain why you don't support services for them?

Not everyone has beer money to fall back on.

    My friend.

Poor baby McCain. He actually has to work a couple of days a week. Goodness knows he has not done that for a number of years (like 26 years).

If Ridge is McCains runningmate, McCain will win Pennsylvania and it is game over. As it stands right now, each candidate is going to win the states that they have won for the past 3 elections. Ohio is in play again which is Republican, but so is Pennsylvania, Michigan, Washington and Wisconsin which is Democrat. Everything else will stay the same.

Someone in Vega should ask Senator Mc Cain why he did not support the GI Bill for our troops coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan He would rather stand with George W. and his we will veto Senator Webb's bill. Bet he wont be talking about how he does not honor our veterans in Vegas. Some one has to call him on this and also on how he cheated on his wife who had cancer and had also just survived a horrific car accident with his pill popping current wife Cindy.

He can campaign every day til hell freezes over, but he's still a little man in every sense.

He's already lost me and my family and even some of my friends with his attitude and low road Rovian tactics.

    McCain 08! 🙂

Obama needs to take a long vacation and then get to work in the Senate gaining some legitimate experience and a credible record.

He sounds disrespectful and ignorant when he mocks McCain. His grin won't get him a win. It is just too shallow! 🙁

When McCain speaks to the veterans, it'd be great if he gave them some straight talk about why he has so often voted against bills that would support them. McCain supports the troops and veterans more in theory than he does in voting support.

Meanwhile the rest of us are spending our vacations close to home due to gas prices. As you read through these blogs you'll notice the same blah, blah trend; a majority (majority because: "This is CNN" [did you hear Jame Earl Jone's voice when you read that?] ) of the people on here blaming Mc_____ (fill in the blank with your cleaver 3rd grade play on a name; Same-Shame-Bush-Maverick-grandpa...) and less than a third of the people blaming _____ (take your pick here as well; NO Bama, Oblah blah, Hussein, The Chosen One, GoBama...) and everybody letting Nancy Pelosi off the hook for letting ALL of our senators, including these two, go on vacation without allowing a vote on the energy bill.

What a joke Mccain is! ONce again he succeeds at making absolutely no sense what so ever.
1st off. theres no way he could have actually thought of these remarks himself. He is merely a puppet of the republican party as a whole. He's got the cleanest, though his image is far from clean, image of the repugs so lets use his image to capture america. Such a divisive strategy but one that will fail non the less. The repugs should have mccain work more on memorizing these silly, lie infested speeches before they put him in front of a fixed media circus again as they did in Arkansas on friday.
2nd Obamas strategy to wein america off foreign oil is obviously too comprehensive for mccains shallow intelect to keep pace with. so while he actually comes up with an idea of his own, one that is different from Bush's, he simply buys time to do so by puttin Obama on the defensive regarding his.
3rd Obama is on vacation. But has not left the country. He is spending time with his family. Mccain has the country all to himself. What is he doing with it. NOTHING. It reminds me of Tiger Woods being absent from golf all this time… The media that tries to bring Obama down is even at a lost because no one is watching! I wonder if they realize this.
After all its perfectly fine to take some time to R & R when youve been working twice as hard as your opponent like Obama has been. And as he will once elected president.
I have a degree in Political Science so maybe im a little more informed than most but uh, I dont think so. America is smarter than that sen. Mccain.

Gee you mean obama is telling everyone he has a grandma who is white and he is visiting her. He told the world before his mothers relatives were white "folks" and he connected to his fathers relatives. Guess we know why.
