McCain again slams Obama 'celebrity' in new radio address

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="McCain has pegged Obama as an out-of-touch celeb."] WASHINGTON (CNN) - John McCain is using his weekly radio address today to continue to attack his opponent, Barack Obama, as a celebrity.

“The Democratic National Convention is just a couple of weeks away. It was four years ago, at the same gathering, that America heard a fine speech from an Illinois state senator named Barack Obama. He's done pretty well for himself since then. And the smart money in Denver is on another celebrated performance,” says McCain in the recorded address.

“But even the most stirring speeches are easily forgotten when they're short on content. Taking in my opponent's performances is a little like watching a big summer blockbuster, and an hour in realizing that all the best scenes were in the trailer you saw last fall. In the way of running mates, Senator Obama should consider someone with a knack for brevity and directness, to balance the ticket,” adds the presumptive GOP presidential nominee.

The McCain campaign first termed Obama a celebrity in a television campaign commercial over a week ago. Since then it appears to have become a theme with the campaign, showing up in a number of ads.

In the radio address, McCain also criticizes Obama’s energy policies and touting his own, saying “a serious energy plan involves a lot more yeses than nos. And that is why I say yes to drilling, here and now. Yes to 45 more nuclear power plants to provide our country with electricity. Yes to clean coal technology, so that we can create jobs and use America's most abundant resource. Yes to renewable energy sources, so that we can shift away from petroleum over the long term. Yes to a break from the federal gasoline tax, so that our government helps you in a time of need instead of just adding to your costs. In short, yes to all of the above - to a bold plan for achieving energy independence that starts today.”

McCain heads to Las Vegas later today, to address the annual convention of the Disabled Americans Veterans.

What about the ISSUES, Senator McCain? And where is your vaunted MAVERICK stance?

You're just a typical politician after all. You'll say absolutely anything to get elected.

McSame must be enamored by Obama also. He talks more about Obama than the issues. Obama is talking issues and McSame's campaign continues to listen intently and reply with "ooh look at the big celebrity." That's all he's got?!?!

You can tell how bitter John McCain is towards Barack Obama based on how many times he and is surrogates use the word "celebrity."

He is a bitter bitter man

Simply childish utterance from a presidential contender.

McCain's utterances about Obama are rather lacking any substance.

McCain only dreams that he could be a "blockbuster" too.

His jealousy just keeps sipping through his lips.

What a joke Mccain is! ONce again he succeeds at making absolutely no sense what so ever.
1st off. theres no way he could have actually thought of these remarks himself. He is merely a puppet of the republican party as a whole. He's got the cleanest, though his image is far from clean, image of the repugs so lets use his image to capture america. Such a divisive strategy but one that will fail non the less. The repugs should have mccain work more on memorizing these silly, lie infested speeches before they put him in front of a fixed media circus again as they did in Arkansas on friday.
2nd Obamas strategy to wein america off foreign oil is obviously too comprehensive for mccains shallow intelect to keep pace with. so while he actually comes up with an idea of his own, one that is different from Bush's, he simply buys time to do so by puttin Obama on the defensive regarding his.
3rd Obama is on vacation. But has not left the country. He is spending time with his family. Mccain has the country all to himself. What is he doing with it. NOTHING. It reminds me of Tiger Woods being absent from golf all this time... The media that tries to bring Obama down is even at a lost because no one is watching! I wonder if they realize this.
I have a degree in Political Science so maybe im a little more informed than most but uh, I dont think so. America is smarter than that sen. Mccain.

Obama might have celebrity status, but at least he’s not a liar and a cheat like McCain. Check it out on for the truth about these McCain adds.

John Edwards just got caught doing the same exact thing McCain did to his first wife Carol. The only difference, Edwards didn’t ditch his wife for the trophy wife like McCain did.

Jealous, McCain? Petty ads like this do NOTHING to promote YOUR candidacy! Oh yeah, I forgot-you have no strong points and nothing to run on yourself, so all you can do is run nonstop negative attack ads against your opponent. PITIFUL, McCain! I'M VOTING OBAMA!!!

    Yes to Lobbiest.
    Yes to war against Iraq.
    Yes to ignorant.
    That's real McCain.
Mr McCain, do you really think saying yes to everything is the safeway to making a real decision?
As a child a learn to accept no and get yes when it is needed.

Maybe you have forgotten about it or that you are not tought that by your parents.

    God bless America.

I am always suspicious of a husband who tries to make political hay out of his wife's cancer diagnosis and treatment. Kudos to Elizabeth for handling his "indiscretion" so well while also having to deal with a cancer diagnosis and all the weeks of treatment.

Eizabeth's support of Clinton became obvious when she ceased appearing with Edwards after he announced his endorsement of Obama.....and Elizabeth wasn't at his side at that time, nor since.

It must be a very strained household. Edwards is a rat!

Everytime I listen or read McCain's Celebrity criticism of Obama, I burst out laughing. He just encourages me to see Obama as a strong, principaled leader. I think of Reagan everytime. Keeping in mind how disliked McCain was by the Former President and First Lady, Mrs. Reagan, for cheating on his wife Carol, I shake my head and realize that Edwards comments about his own self-focus and narcissism are just as applicable to Senator McCain.

Obama.... is a fraud, a liar, and I am a democrat that WILL NOT vote for this man.. No way, no how.
He did not even win the Democratic nomination fair and square. Senator Clinton won more votes... and the the supreme Delegates crowned Him the King... this is BS.. Big Time.. Our Democratic party is a bunch of sexist frauds.....too.... I have switched parties. Those people are more crooked then Putin. This who process is a mess.
We have no choice how as democrats except to vote outside our party, unless we want a Muslim AntiAmerican for our president. He will actually be the First Arab-American president...IF he wins.. and god help us if he does. Please Senator McCain.. blast the truth about him.... we aren't even sure if he is a natural born Citizen.Hawaii was a territory when he was born and his mother did not spend enough time there for him to become a citizen... how can this happen? he came from the Streets..... with Speaches...and only recently since meeting his Anti American Wife did he become a Christian, which I whole heartedly believe he is NOT a beliver of Christ.... in any fashion.
I hear he is helping is cousin Odinga who is a muerder of Non Muslims in Kenya... and hs Dad was part of that same Corrupt Kenyan Government. THIS IS VERY SERIOUS. I AM AFRAID OF WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO US SHOULD HE BECOME THE PRESIDENT... YOU MUST WIN.. YOU MUST WIN.... YOU MUST WIN.
He changes with the flavour of the day... he is not a leader, he has no experience... it's like pulling any Joe off the street, and because his maybe eloquent and gracious, say hey, You are the President of the US!!!! Then Crown him gold. This is the most discusting , sick thing I have ever witnessed. And his arrogance just takes the cake. His Lack of respect for the Clintons, well, that even shows his lack of judgment even more. The Clintons have done more for America then he can ever imagine or do..... as you too, have done by serving the Country so honorably. But this guy?

Mc-old. You're a mc-moron. Why don't you focus on issues rather than slamming your opponent? Your ads touting obama as a celebrity are ridiculous. To spend millions of $ of your campaign money on this is wasteful. You'd probably get more independents to sway to you if you weren't such a mudslinger but unfortunately with your 7 decades of experience and judgement, you are as base and unpolished as any average politician. If the Obama campaign was as dirty as you, there would be jabs at how you don't know how to use the internet or that you'll be the oldest and Mc-crustiest president in US history ever. They won't stoop that low.
