Kerry launches site to fight Obama rumors

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Kerry’s PAC launched the site Wednesday."](CNN) - Four years after finding himself the target of a scathing campaign-year book from a conservative author during his own campaign, former Democratic presidential contender John Kerry is launching a Web site to discredit the writer’s latest work, which takes aim at 2008 presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama.

The move comes amid news “Obama Nation,” the latest book by author Jerome Corsi, has secured a berth atop New York Times best-seller list. Corsi previously co-wrote “Unfit for Command,” a book highly critical of Kerry’s military record during the Vietnam War.

Kerry’s new Web site, “Truth Fights Back” – which will be funded by the Massachusetts senator’s political action committee - resembles the “Fight the Smears” site Obama’s campaign launched earlier this year, and uses similar methods: a list of responses to existing rumors about the presumptive Democratic nominee, a form to report new attacks, and a request for supporters to add their names to an e-mail listserv that will direct activists on rapid response to future attacks on Obama and other Democratic candidates.

“We want people to know that truth, and that doesn't just mean the truth about the candidate being smeared, but also the truth about the smear machine,” says a message on the site. “We don't just want to ‘debunk’ rumors and smears; we want to show people what these smears are all about so they can recognize smears in the future. We want to educate people on why these are used and by whom.”

Kerry has expressed regret over his own response to attacks from Corsi and other critics during his own White House bid, telling reporters that he did not think he had responded swiftly or strongly enough.

"You can't just play defense against smears, pointing out how they aren't true,” said Kerry in a message to supporters Wednesday. “You've got to play offense, too, exposing the whole cynical game for what it is: an attempt to keep us from talking about the real issues and ultimately changing our country for the better.”

I hope during one of the debates each candidate is allowed to challeng 5 or 10 ads from the other side. Sepcifically the attack ads like where McCain says Obama is going to raise your taxes if you make $42,000. Or Obama's ad where he says McCain doesn't like Americans to have jobs by virtue of his deal with DHL and his votes against "buying AMerican."
I'd bet a dollar, at least, that Obama's side would come out far better than McCain on the truth meter.
I thought I liked McCain, but it seems that every ad he has run is just flat out false.
So, a site like this is needed to refute any information that is clearly a lie. Sad, but needed.

WOW, some of you are completely stupid and certainly don't read or spell very well. Kerry couldn't do anything in 2004 and exactly how many of you really know what the truth is about Obama?

Search the shooter's house. I bet they find books by Hannity, ORiley, Savage and Rush Goonebah!

They preach there hate every day and those who listen to them are mentaly weak people. They rely on them for there information and there daily dose of hate. They feed those who will listen political spin and trash they spew out of there nasty mouths.

All four of them are sick, and should be taken of the air!

This website is a good idea but until Obama's campaign starts responding to the attacks faster, I don't think it's going to help him much. He and his people need to think a little faster on their feet.

Please John, N O T H A N K S. Between you and Al Gore your accomplishments to the party run so deep. 12 years and counting.

Keep your medals if they've been returned, you are an honorable vet, we know you puff quite a bit, but you were in Nam.

Please John, we don't need your Botox filled face nor your lovely wife's mouth to add to Mr. Obama's baggage. He's already picked up your Kerryesque ways on policy, like he was for drilling before he was against it.

I think the more people that expose lies and Orwellian Double-Speak the better. Democracy can't exist in an environment where people can make up alternate realities like the world of Fox news, Newsmax, Rush Linbaugh, and political hack authors. Just because something comes out in hard back doesn't make it credible or true.

And frank ferina, how many wounds did you get in Vietnam? It's funny that a candidate like Bush hit on that, he wasn't even able to get a splinter because he was a coward and never went. Besides, Kerry followed the procedure for reports that was there at the time and no one thought twice. Those people with the purple heart band-aids make me SICK!

Gore-Loser and Kerry- Loser to Bush. Both of these democrats went off to do goofy stuff. Imagine what Obama will do once McCain beats him this November.

Let history judge President Bush. It's our job to look at the facts, and the facts are that neither candidate is winner. Just remember the person you are going to vote for will be the leader of the free world. Platitudes and oratory receive little respect in the real world. Be careful for what you wish.

PREDICTION Obama loses by a fair margin. Rioting erupts in the major metropolitan areas, State Police (and what's left of the Nat'l Guard) are sent in after martial law is declared. More freedoms are wrestled from us. The neo cons win. Then end! of the Constitution that is.

What have the Republicans got if they have to be truthful?

I'm very proud to say that I just got banned from the Hannity forums for "Contempt of Host". It seems I was pushing too hard for truth about energy policies and tire gauges.

I must respond to Greg, Pottstown, VA from the McCain: Georgia conflict won't 're-ignite the cold war' ticker.

Apart from the "obvious to most" fact that we "Zealots" don't have time enough to respond before comments are closed, most of us wouldn't bother to respond because it's obvious that you can't fully grasp the concepts of which you speak. However, I'm your patsy. Your claim that Obama's plan to increase the minimum wage will drive companies over "sees" is the perfect argument against trickledown economics (double talking is easy for forked-tongues).

If the overwhelming mindset of American companies is to leave the US to increase their bottom lines via labor costs, how exactly do laborers benefit from the corporations' net income windfall if not through compensation? The bottom line is that greed and the lack of concern and welfare for all Americans is not only the ailment that, if goes unchecked, will destroy America from within, but is indeed the most Anit-American position that exists within our borders. And that is the position of America's corporate giants, with whom repugnicans most often align themselves. I personally, am neither repugnican nor demobrat, but for these reasons, checked dems are with whom I most often align. And if fighting for America makes me a zealot, then a zealot I am, but by my definition, you my friend are Anti-American because we the people are America. Corporations are becoming financial parasites who feed on the people (America) with insatiable appetites.

Maybe when Trust Fights Back, Kerry will be able to explain why he gave aid and comfort to the enemy when he got home from Vietnam by testifying to Congress in favor of the Viet Cong's propaganda machine.

Revolting – he's a disgrace to his uniform.

If voters want to start MORE wars with MORE countries...... they WILL vote for McCain and websites will not change anything.... McCain's answer to ALL conflicts is the military.... it's very sad.
