Kerry launches site to fight Obama rumors

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Kerry’s PAC launched the site Wednesday."](CNN) - Four years after finding himself the target of a scathing campaign-year book from a conservative author during his own campaign, former Democratic presidential contender John Kerry is launching a Web site to discredit the writer’s latest work, which takes aim at 2008 presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama.

The move comes amid news “Obama Nation,” the latest book by author Jerome Corsi, has secured a berth atop New York Times best-seller list. Corsi previously co-wrote “Unfit for Command,” a book highly critical of Kerry’s military record during the Vietnam War.

Kerry’s new Web site, “Truth Fights Back” – which will be funded by the Massachusetts senator’s political action committee - resembles the “Fight the Smears” site Obama’s campaign launched earlier this year, and uses similar methods: a list of responses to existing rumors about the presumptive Democratic nominee, a form to report new attacks, and a request for supporters to add their names to an e-mail listserv that will direct activists on rapid response to future attacks on Obama and other Democratic candidates.

“We want people to know that truth, and that doesn't just mean the truth about the candidate being smeared, but also the truth about the smear machine,” says a message on the site. “We don't just want to ‘debunk’ rumors and smears; we want to show people what these smears are all about so they can recognize smears in the future. We want to educate people on why these are used and by whom.”

Kerry has expressed regret over his own response to attacks from Corsi and other critics during his own White House bid, telling reporters that he did not think he had responded swiftly or strongly enough.

"You can't just play defense against smears, pointing out how they aren't true,” said Kerry in a message to supporters Wednesday. “You've got to play offense, too, exposing the whole cynical game for what it is: an attempt to keep us from talking about the real issues and ultimately changing our country for the better.”

@Rodney: Kerry is always two steps behind what is current because he waits to find out where public opinions are going before weighing in. That's why he is often for something before he is against it. He just chases opinions around like a mad hatter chasing butterflies.

  5. and the loser is..the American Public

Senator Kerry – some 136,000 Ohioians, 85,000 of which were recognized felon's decided your fate, unfortunately in 2004. The country had remained on a pattern of deceit, lead by GW Bush and Karl, won't testify Rove, and instead of hussling 537 votes and thanks to Cheney's walk with Scalia, 1 Surpreme Court Justice to win the 2000 election, alot of mis information prevented us from being 'SAVED' by having you as our current President.

Unfortunately you are picking up from where the very same people left you..

How about the Democrats play 'Pin the Tail on the DNC Chairman Howard 'Yeehaw' Dean who's personal policies a long with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid's are forcing an INEXPERIENCED but pleasent young man down the throats of the American Public

Answer to your website – build relationships, do not follow in the steps of the CNN (Anderson Cooper) and political pundits and spread or fight mis information.

This is what we were told by the 2008 truer version of a Flip Flopper, Senator Obama he would never participate the full votes he wants or has been reported he wants to grant the delegates from Florida and Michigan now that Howard 'Yeehaw' Dean and think they've stolen this election..

Put another way – we are as tired of you as you are tired of the misinformation – what I pray will happen this political cycle is that 'only those politicians, regardless of party affiliation, who have been focused on the family, focused on our children and focused on saving the American from the clutches of the Cheney's (Oil Speculators) of the when the then Republican lead Congress in 2006 voted to allow Hedge fund and speculators to drive people out of their homes and into their cars they can't afford now to move..

TO THE VOTING RECORDS OF YOU AND THE OTHER 450+ House and 99+ Senate's the American Public will go this fall and clean sweep the cronies like yourself who talk the talk but then let the American Public 'HANG' on the sidewalk..send all of you home...permanently!

Apparently CNN doesn't want to post any factual references which might embroil them into the heart of the political controversy, instead preferring to post Jr High comments like "McCain stinks! Obama stinks!"

Fine. McCain stinks. Bush stinks. Rove stinks. Cheney stinks. Big Oil stinks. Raytheon stinks. Blackwater stinks. General Dynamics stinks.

    CNN stinks.

Reports of you throwing your medals away have been embellished. WItnesses claim that you threw like a girlie man. The closest you came to Cambodia that Christmas eve was the Little Cambodia Bar and Grill, where it was reported that you sang Christmas carols with a little Vietnamese ho on your lap. Give it up dude, your fellow officers hated your guts because you were a fraud.

If Obama would only tell us for himself what he is all about, we wouldn't have to rely on this kind of stuff. Hey, Cynthia, all us people who don't want to kill babies have is FOX News, your media is so pro Obama it is scary. This just levels the playing field a bit. Is that a bad thing?

ps I thought we were done with Kerry

If Kerry had fought for himself as hard as he's been fighting for Obama, I bet he'd be president right now. He's been a great surrogate for Obama from the beginning, and unlike many Democrats who jumped on the Obama bandwagon later when it was the "cool" thing to do, Kerry took a risk and endorsed Obama when he was still the underdog. I hope he gets to be Secretary of State in an Obama Administration...he's earned it.

Corsi is doing this to make money. Pure and simple. He's a jerk but the name of the game is CAPITALISM. I do wonder, though, what kind of a person would buy a tabloid novel? Better to read the last Harry Potter book, no?

It seems impossible to me that there are tens of millions of Americans who are so uneducated and so completely lacking in understanding of what has been done to them over the past eight years by the Bush administration. It also seems impossible that anyone could be so stupid as to still think that the Swift Boat Veterans was anything but a hatchet job paid for by extreme right wing political operatives. But, many are so filled with hate and feelings of inferiority that they accept any mental garbage put out by the likes of Hannity, O'Reilly and the hundreds of loonies in the right wing conservative media.. Now John McCain who I once revered for his honor integrity and bravery while captive in Vietnam has given up on everything except bravery. What a cheap little politicians he has become. Now I can only think that he's to desperately ambitious, unbelievably ignorant and too old mentally to come anyplace near the Oval Office. Bravo to Senator Kerry for taking on the liars, their lies and phony rumors of the McCaine campaign and people in the media who would not have their high ratings and high salaries if they were not a part of a vast right wing slime machine. We simply can't afford a president with absolutely no sense of decency. SyL

Why is it "swiftboating" if what is being said is true. You Obamabots need to get a grib. I bet Obama himself could say that everything in the book is true but "I have "change", and you would take it hook line and sinker. Do anything to make history to have the first African American President.

If you are a true christian, you should not vote for a person who can not protect inocent children. Sucking the child's brain and cutting it to peices is no less than murder. How many children were killed since the start of the Iraq war? You complain of the 4,000+ soldiers who died but you never complain of the millions of inocent children murdered. You should have been aborted yourself so there will be less people like you. May God have mercy on your soul, if you have one.

The time is long past for political lies! This is not some fanciful, trivial, election people! The voters have to realize this is really really serious ! These silly attacks from the BUSH BOYS (McCain's allies) are just that silly! Distractions! The political climate in the world is like a tinderbox. We need a calm. levelheaded, intelligent leader, now more than at any other time in our history. Senator Obama has shown that he will be an incredible advocate for world peace, and for the U.S.A. International respect and leadership is going to be critically important in the coming months and years. Obama has given the world , with his trip to the Middle East, and Europe, a hope, that we all so desperately need. The hope for a new beginning with respect and consideration for all peoples, regardless of color, faith, or ideology . At last, a t last!

In Canada about the worst thing a politician can do is wear their religion on their sleeve and try to appeal to the religious extremists as the public overwhelmingly rejects religion influencing their government or any of it's decisions.

We do have the types that don't go on facts or issues but the majority seem to vote with some signs of intelligence and I guess that's why we have good strong social programs like universal health care and pensions for the elderly.

I realize many Americans refer to these as entitlement programs but sooner or later you will join with those nations in the 21st century and have some of these benefits as well. Good luck with your mud slinging and religious wackos.
