Oprah to head to Denver for Obama nomination

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/06/04/art.oprahobama.gi.jpg caption="Oprah hit the trail for Obama during the primary season."] (CNN) - Oprah Winfrey will be on hand when Barack Obama accepts the Democratic nomination in Denver – but the talk show host, who was a key presence at rallies for the Illinois senator during the primary season, won’t take the stage, a representative from her production company told CNN Wednesday.

The spokeswoman also denied rumors Winfrey was planning to spend thousands renting a home in Denver during the convention.

In June, shortly after Obama effectively clinched the Democratic nomination, Winfrey – who appeared with him in several key early-voting states, including Iowa, New Hampshire and California – said she was "euphoric” over his victory.

“I've been doing the happy dance all day,” she said in a statement then. “I'm so proud of Barack and Michelle and what this means for all of us, the new possibilities for our country.”

She added that she’d be happy to hit the trail again on his behalf: “And if he wants me to, I'm ready to go door to door."

Obama had Oprah's endorsement, and quite frankly, I don't think Oprah carries any credibility here. Obama campaign should not make a big deal out of the endorsement, it could backfire. People don't want Oprah telling them who to vote for.

I think he realized that her backing is good, but, she should not become the focal point. Smart move Obama!

Where is the "news" to this article? Is there someone left in the country who doesn't know Oprah's sentiments? I don't really think showbiz types swing elections.

I am so happy that Oprah is using her celebrity to suport Obama. This is what high profile people should do, use their fame and exposure to support important issues that affect people's lives.

Way to go Oprah, I am very proud of you.

oooh, a big celebrity endorses another big celebrity, how touching. It's really sad that we live in a country where television personalities can influence how we vote. I know, how about Obama supporters going on line to Senate.gov and reading about their messiah. and seeing how he voted on the issues. How about trying that, rather than letting a talk show host tell you how to vote. How stupid you must be to base your most important right, on what Ophra tells you to do.

  21. Sick & Tired of Nobama

The USA doesn't want a celebrity to run the country. We need someone who is at least patriotic in the least.
Nobama is a clown with all his clown friends. Get real America, stop taking the hope dope. Sober up and vote for someone who can lead this country. Nobama will run us into the ground. We will be like all those German sheep he preached to.

Okay I am an Obama supportor, but why does Winfrey's name keep coming up? Who really cares whether she speaks or not? She is a talk show host, that's it. Yes we know she supports Obama, we know she is happy. Why is she allowed space in the CNN Political Ticker? I 'd rather one you do a report on the real story behind John McCain's Vietnam so called Imprisonment, Let's discuss about the lives that were taken due to he sold his own countrymen out to save his own butt. Let's talk about his cheating on his first wife who had Cancer with his current wife (you sure like talikng about Edwards and his wife), Heck I will play Devil's Advocate, let's talk about Obama dumb idea of windfall tax, let's talk about Obama's dumb idea of giving Americans a rebate check, even though there is no money to do that. Cmon CNN, the election is in 2 1/2 months, give us some real stuff to discuss.
