Crowley: McCain on his greatest moral failing

LAKE FOREST, California (CNN) - Pretty compelling moment when John McCain was asked about his greatest moral failing and very quietly replied: "the failure of my first marriage." You could have heard a pin drop.

As an aside: McCain was put in a "cone of silence" while Barack Obama was on stage, because he was getting the same questions.

His second marriage isn't so great either, judging by the amount of callous disrespect he shows his wife in public. I shudder to think how he might treat her when no one is looking.

Thank you for bringing this question to the surface.

Now the world knows what kind of person he was and still is.

Let's go a little further and tell the whole story, while his first wife lay in a hospital bed, McCain was committing adultry.

Is this the kind of man we want for President?

    I don't think so.

Come on religious right speak up and admit what kind of man McCain is. You spoke up against Clinton. Don't you have the guts to do the same to McClain.

... now he mentions that his behavior while married to his first wife was less than exemplary: This from the man who wants "value voters" to fall in line.

I think his moral failings are more with what he has not accomplished in his almost three decades in Congress, with the fact that he sees every issue through the prism of endless war and then does not support the veterans who fight in these wars.

Walter Reed happened under his watch. That is a true moral failing.

The Democrats should all thank Hillary and some of her "blind" supporters. She and her gang, including Bill, started all these negative smears during the primary. Now, the Republicans are only copying Hillary and her "nasty" supporters.

Let us face facts here, the Republicans will never allow another Clinton to be elected president of this nation. The 18 million pieces of "idiots" included active Republicans who very much wanted to see Hillary as the nominee so that they could easily attack the Dem party!!!

You may think he was put in a cone of silence if you want to. But I don't think so. He was answering the questions almost before they were asked. He (McCain) knew that it was a important subject concerning his first marriage ,so he admitted gilt and quickly changed the moment by coming up with one of hid so called sad "POW" stories. People this man was considered a traitor. He collaborated with the enemy. I wouldn't want to leave either after writing all those confession letters.

I believe that Obama was "set up." McCain is not that quick on the ball. His answers seemed canned, and almost like a rebuttal–like he knew the questions. That is why I believe his answers were succinct. Succinct, but full of the same old rhetoric. If he was in a cone of silence, it either wasn't so silent, or he had the questions beforehand.
McCain said that we should defeat evil. What?? Defeat evil? If you are really a Christian, you know that human beings can never defeat evil, only God can. We are not commanded to defeat evil. We are commanded to love one another. Let God defeat evil, which he already has. It is written.

Evangelicals scare me. They actually clapped at his answer (to defeat evil). They claim to know God, but act like they don't. I'm not so sure they really do. I believe for most of them, it is just talk. I'm proud to be Christian. And the God I serve does not need me to stand up for him. He is quite capable of doing that himself. He did not command me to hinder others from living, or legislate morality. Remember, many are called, but few are chosen. The ones chosen, I believe are the ones who have true understanding. They get it. They get what it's all about. It's not about laws or punishment at all. It's about love and faith.

Adultery is our business. McCain was not truthfull. He didn't tell everyone that he was having an affair with Miss Cindy – whom he divorced his wife Carol and married Cindy and her money. McCain is in the same catagory as Edwards and Clinton and the rest. of them.

McCain had canned answers – like he was reading a page. I wouldn't be surprised if McCain had the questions 2 weeks before last night.

Obama is the one with character and integrity.

Evelyn – McCain was not direct with his answer to his greatest moral failing. Sure he said the "failure of his first marrigage", but neglected to say why it failed. It failed because he cheated on his first wife after she had been injured and disfigured in an accident. He started sleeping with Cindy (the prescription drug junkie and thief) before he ended his marriage and even got the marriage license before he was divorced. This man dumped a devoted wife for a "sugar momma".

McCain's greatest moral failing was, according to him, "the failure of my first marriage". And he gets praise for that answer?

He didn't mention that he cheated on his wife... to me, that is far more of a moral failing.

I have been married and am divorced, but I never cheated on my wife. The divorce was horrible, but I would be living with far more guilt if I had cheated on my wife prior to the divorce.

There are a lot of marriages that end in divorce for reasons other than infidelity. McCain did not mention why he and his first wife divorced.

Even though people, mainly so-called independents, say they are not racist and support McCain, large numbers of those "independent" votes will go to McCain because the voter still harbors racist attitudes. You can see it in the posts on various web sites.

he must have been listening to the questions and answers: how can this man give an answer when the questioner hadn´t even finished the question?????besides, not all the questions were the same......I`d rather have someone who thinks but not about EARS and NAM.....enough of that crap

Yo Rob, McCrypt-keeper commited adultry with Cindy long before leaving his first wife, who was badly disfigured by a car wreck, in the dust. Oh and are you aware as soon as he met little Ms. Heiress, that's when the first wife got the business end of his military boots.

One more thing, it's interesting that McCrypt-keeper is doing his best to paint Obama as "elite," when they own 8 to 10 MANSIONS. How many MANSIONS do you have Rob boy??? Bet you'd probably leave your wife in the dust for that kind of scratch too, huh buddy??

Come now. We are all adults here. McCain bringing up his own infidelity and confessing his guilt did two things for him. One, it allowed him to quickly move on and spend very little time on it. Two, McCain was playing to the Christian audience who are conditioned to respect confessions of sin and then to embrace the sinner. This was not from the heart of McCain it was from his wily political play book.
    Grow Up.
