Obama VP buzz squarely on Biden

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/08/18/art.bidentrip.gi.jpg caption="Speculation is building Biden will be named Obama's running mate."](CNN) - When Joe Biden returns to Capitol Hill Monday from his two-day trip to embattled Georgia, vice presidential speculation will rest squarely on him.

The longtime Delaware senator and former presidential candidate has long been considered to be on the shortlist for Barack Obama's running mate, but his quickly-planned trip to Georgia Saturday night at the behest of that country's president left Washington buzzing he is the most likely choice.

Watch: Will it be Biden?

After all, the Georgia crisis appears to have put national security issues again at the forefront of the presidential campaign, and it's an issue where John McCain has long held the advantage over Obama. The Illinois senator, so the Beltway chatter goes, needs a running-mate with foreign policy experience now more than ever.

If Biden does aspire to be on the Democratic presidential ticket, the trip couldn't have come at a better time - reinforcing his lengthy resume on matters of foreign policy and reminding voters, and Obama, he is well respected by foreign leaders half a world away.

The trip also comes days before Obama is expected to reveal his VP choice - with only days remaining until the Democratic convention, the choice is expected to come this week.

But of course Biden suggested before he left Saturday he isn't making the trip for political reasons.
"I am going to Georgia this weekend to get the facts first-hand and to show my support for Georgia’s people and its democratically-elected government," he said in a statement. "I look forward to reporting to my colleagues in the Senate and on the Foreign Relations Committee, as well as the Administration, about what I learn."

He may have one or two conversations with his colleague from Illinois too.

  1. Biden is a great choice

I admire Senator Biden for his toughness. He will make a great VP.

Note: My fellow Obama supporters please stop agitating the Hillary supporters by saying things like, "get over it." In two weeks all the "Hillary could still get the nomination" or "Obama is just the presumptive nominee" nonsense will be over. Party unity is our goal. Leave these people alone with their short-lived delusions. They are upset, it is understandable. Concentrate on getting new voters.

CNN, can you report more on the cheating McCain performed at Warren's forum. Can you do an inquiry to know if it is true that McCain was on a cell phone the whole time he was in his car. Was Warren involved in the cover-up (which would not be surprising) or was he really unaware McCain was not in the cone of silence. Please, some serious reporting here. We knew McCain is confused, low-road, unable to come up with any solution, but a plain liar?

  6. Clintonsucks

All those "supposed" Clinton supports are moral hypocrites and idiots if they plan to write in Hiliary or vote McCain. If you do then I hope he wins and messes up this country some more, so I could see who you blame. Hillary would energize the Republicans and she would lose PERIOD. Her and her dirt bag husband are a black stain on the democratic party.

Also – Our founding fathers were liberals and if you dont believe me do some freaken research.

Clinton and McCain both have NO experience as commander an chief either. You dont get this until you are president.

While I do like Senator Biden, this only serves to prove that you DO need at least one old white guy on your ticket to win in November. McCain will most likely have two unless Condi feels like continuing on with this administration's insanity.

People who pretend to be Hllary supporter are really closet republicans, trying to cause uproar in democratic party. Hillary will have to realize that she LOST. So she and her big mouth Husband needs to go away forever ( take Monica too if that helps). I am tired of this couple.

Joe Biden as VP pick is the only reason I'll vote for Obama. My first choice was Biden because of his honesty, wisdom, and voting record. Hillary would have been acceptable too, but only with Biden as VP. He won't tolerate duplicity, political pandering and even his slight tendency to deviate from the "script" is refreshing and long over due in our political system. The man is of sterling character, strength and has a grasp of foriegn affairs that is unequaled. BIDEN ALL THE WAY!

Biden would be a great VP as would many others. None would be as big liar as McCain, who knew questions in advance for the religious forum and implied clearly that he did not when asked. Everyone loved his short answers that his advIsors handed to him in advance! Plus he made up the cross in the dirt story. McCain is a fake! McCain is a fake Christian, McCain is a fake hero, MCCain is a fake person, MCCAIN IS A FAKE.!

I AGREE. I'M A HILLARY SUPPORTER ALSO. NOW I SUPPORT OBAMA AND THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. BEING STUPID ABOUT VOTING FOR MCCAIN WILL BE A BIG MISTAKE. I DON'T BELIEVE HILLARY IS GONNA PAY MY BILLS BY VOTING ANOTHER REPUBLIC IN THE OVAL HOUSE. BE SENSIBLE HILLARY SUPPORTERS, OR MAYBE YOU CAN AFFORD ANOTHER REPUBLIC PRESIDENT, I CAN'T. SO PLEASE SET ASIDE UR SELFISHNESS AND HAVE A FORGIVING HEART. OTHER PEOPLE LIVELIHOOD ARE AT STAKE.

  17. Wake up dummies

To all of you hillary fanaddicts out there, I have just one question:

You would really waste the greatest right and privelege we hold as Americans-our right to vote- on a write in for hillary and risk the republican idiot machine to stay in place just because you enjoy hearing yourselves whine about Hillary?? She lost. get over it. Be mature and use your vote properly.

Isn't Biden one of the senators that got a sweetheart mortgage deal from Countrywide Home Loans? I would think Obama's team would pick someone "squeaky clean".

  22. McCain=the draft

I would be happy with Biden. He's the only one who can, and WILL , chew McCain up and spit him out!

Why was McCain allowed to give his rehearsed, and recycled stump speech on Sat. nite, but Warren told Obama NOT to give his??? The whole thing smells...

    HEY, "18,000,000 plus the disenfranchised"!

Do you know how to get anything fixed in this country! ... do you? no?!...

Then support someone, run for office yourself, or SHUT UP!

Complaints and endless criticisms do nothing to fix the problems we all face, unless they are coupled with possible solutions.

Think about solutions before you just idiotically pop off at the mouth!
