Powder, threatening letter sent to McCain office

(CNN) - Federal and local officials are on the scene of a threatening letter with white powder received at John McCain’s regional campaign office outside Denver, in suburban Englewood, Colorado.

At 3 p.m. MT, a staffer in the McCain Denver office opened a letter containing a threatening letter and a quantity of white powder," McCain Spokesman Jeff Sadosky told CNN's Justine Redman. "Staff immediately contacted local and federal law enforcement. Staff are taking all necessary precautions, including checking in with medical professionals"

“Agents and Officers are responding," United States Secret Service Spokesman Malcolm Wiley who is in Denver also tells CNN's Jim Spellman.

Regardless of whom you support or how much you dislike the opposing candidate, this sort of behavior is unacceptable. Whoever did it should be tracked down and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

I figured Rove and crew would wait until the day after Obama's speech to drum up some terrorist threats. (see the day after DNC Convention 2004 for example of what I'm referring to).

I guess WcCain not knowing how many homes he has caused them to bump up the schedule a bit.....

Okay people. Let's watch the comments. There is no place for this sort of thing in American politics. I hope that catch the SOB(s), put them in the same cell as the guy who threatened Obama, and throw away the key.

Ploy! Get the news cycle off Obama and his VP pick (absolutely no one cares about McCain's pick) and that fact that McCain doesn't know how many homes he owns. This is 2008, who in the world are still falling for Repub tactics?

Does anyone really believe this crap? It was planted by McCain's campaign, at the same time they are throwing the kitchen sink Obama by suggesting he has terrorist connections.

  8. Thou Shalt Not Committ ...

No telling what is behind this ... a prank ... a GOP'er trying to engender sympathy ... a real threat ....

What is undeniable is that the tone of this campaign is far too superficial and nasty. STOP IT no good can come from it.

I'm a Obama supporter and I feel that McCain has been the running the dishonorable campaign. That aside, I'm certain that if McCain ceases and demonstrates a different tact, Obama will call off his recently rev'd up intensity.

I wouldn't put it past the republicans to "plant" this type of thing to keep their numbers up with the less intelligent people in the country–who are the ones who usually vote republican. Nice try, but only the thick-skulled people will fall for it.

McCain the dimwit who got 160+ sailors killed on the USS Forrestral due to his own stupidity and cowardace.

You Obama supporters are really nasty people. Have been from the start. Obama would be running scared if that was his office. Hell, he is even afraid to debate McCain at a Town Hall meeting. And you have the nerve to throw nasty comments to McCain. Obama has no backbone, he is a "chicken" and not anybody that should be in the oval office.

"Insert idiotic remarks from the Obamites here: 5,4,3,2,1……"

And if there had been a threat against Obama, there would have been dumb things said by McCain supporters. There are far too many such comments from BOTH sides on this forum.

I'm an Obama supporter, and I think this is horrifying. I hope they catch the person responsible ASAP.

  22. Very Skeptical in Arkansas

This is very fishy. I remain convinced that this is a psyop (psychological operation). Yes, there are crazy people on both sides of the aisle, but that particular type of dirty trick is a specialty of the right-wing in general and Republican operatives in particular.

I'm sure you can expect to see a lot more psyops resembling today's event being run as the election draws closer. Be very, very skeptical of stuff like this and don't necessarily take it at face value..

Probably a Kool Aid drinking Obama supporter sent it.

Hey Obama, why are you worried about how many houses McCain has? You made millions last year and got a deal on a house and extra land from a convicted felon. Guess it's okay with you to have money and your buddies in Congress that have the worst approval rating ever. Your buddy Al Gore is making millions by preaching about global warming. Ask him how many houses and SUV's he has. Oh, make sure and ask John Kerry as well.

This is one independent that has made up his mind. McCain has my vote.
