Disclosure reports show Clinton still deeply in debt

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Clinton is still carrying a sizeable campaign debt."](CNN) - Well over two months have passed since Hillary Clinton formally abandoned her White House bid, but newly-released Federal Election Commission reports show the New York senator has made little headway in paying off her sizeable campaign debt.

According to an FEC report filed Wednesday, Clinton's debt as of the end of July stood at just under $24 million - a decrease of only $1.2 million since the end of June. More than $13 million of that total is owed to the New York senator herself, while close to $11 million is owed to individual vendors. Clinton has suggested she is not seeking to pay back the money she owes herself.

The report also shows Clinton was only able to raise $2 million in the month of July - down from close to $3 million in June. By comparison, Barack Obama raised over $50 million for his White House bid in the same time period.

The report comes as some high-profile Clinton backers have expressed disappointment Obama has not made more of an effort to help his onetime rival retire her campaign debt.

“He has provided her with a pittance compared to what the Clintons have given Obama,” prominent Clinton backer Lynn Forrester told the Times of London. “Her debt could have been cleared within 10 days. It’s ungracious.”

Obama and Clinton have appeared at a handful of joint fundraising events, and the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee has publicly urged his supporters to donate to his former primary season rival - though at a joint appearance with Clinton at a July fundraiser, the Illinois senator forgot to call on his backers to contribute to her. (He later went back on stage to correct himself.)

According to Clinton's disclosure forms filed Thursday, she owes the most ($5.2 million) to her former top advisor Mark Penn's polling/political consulting firm, Penn, Schoen and Berland Associates.

I am SO tired of hearing Hillary Clinton whine. Your debt, you worry about it.

well she may be in debt, but polls show she would be beating McCain by 6 points, Obama is ahead by 3 points. She is the better candidate, she actually has a record to run on and not just empty words. She actually doesn't start one job just to run for another and never accomplish anything in the job she has. Obama is all about power, and without someone telling him what to say he is useless. Well useless, other than voting for Bush policies like FISA and tax breaks for big oil.

Ok all you Hillary lovers, put up or shut up. The nag is whinning about needing money so its time to step up to the plate. Actually she needs to step back from the plate but that is another issue. Anyway, instead of complaining about her not getting the nomination, those 18 million voters need to contribute a dollar a piece and get the old gray mair out of debt.

Realizing of course, that$18 million could re "retired" by each of her supportrts giving just $1 a piece, CNN, can you give us a story of any precedent of this type of action? Have other candidates paid off their opponents debt after they won the nomination? Were they in when it was statistically impossible to win and ran without money anyway?

This is very stupid. What's more stupid is CNN continuing to do stories on it. Why should Obama pay off clinton's debt when it was clear that hillary had no chance of winning the primaries long before the end. Obama would essentially be paying for attacks of himself. It hurt obama and hillary continued spending when she knew she had no chance.

Hillarys' campaign was plagued with failures, she obviously over extended her finances even at a point when she could not possibly catch her opponent in the needed delegate count. Have no threat she is very well off. Where are all her supporters?

The suprise is that those eighteen million votes do not want to help out their beloved misunderstood and much maligned Senator. I guess it is hard to get those hard working americans to give to your campaign when you have the ability to donate thirteen million of your own cash to it. Why she can't get Bill to give a couple speeches and retire the debt?

18 million strong supporters and the best she could raise is 2 million. something doesn't just add up. her buddy rush should pony up the rest if her ardent supporters just don't care that much about her.

Clinton – great job. Instead of paying off her debts she leaves these businesses with outstanding debt. I guess they can write it off.

Where are her 18 million supporters? $1.00 each certainly would help.

    Ah ha ha ha ha

Hillary Fanatics totally dumped her and wont spend a dime on their Feminist leader.

I guess you all are starting to use some common sense.
Hillary owns multiple Mansions, millons in stocks and huge amounts of cash.

For you people to donate to pay off a bill of a Multi-Millonaire, well that just makes you dumb, simple, stupid whatever you want to call it.

Hillary can take the money just from her last book deal and pay off the whole bill.

But she wants you to pay it.

A Clinton supporter is accusing someone of being ungracious? Maybe if Senator Clinton was a bit more gracious over the last month of the campaign, when everyone in America except her and her husband knew she had no chance of winning, she wouldn't be in this hole. If I were Obama, I wouldn't give her one nickel. Let her 18 million voters help her with her debt.

Is it Barack's fault that she was careless with her financing? Money spent to bail her out of debt is money that does not go to the cause of putting the Democratic candidate in office!

How in the heck can this Lynn Forrester say Obama hasn't help her clear her debt. What in the hell has she given him with? Is this woman crazy? HIllary hasn't done what she said she was gong to do either. where was all of her campaing for Obama? I only saw her twice doing some campaing Obama owes her NOTHING. She should have dropped out of the race months before but she didn't. I'm so tired of all you hillary supporters saying he owes her, hell if it wasn't for her and her nasty tatics Obama could have started his attacks on mc ole timer months earlier but she hung in there and incurred this debt.

Why don't you Lynn and all your hateful 18 millon supporters of hillary send her that $1.00 that should clear it up, besides, doesn't she and bill have a few buck tucked away? Give me a break I feel no sympathy for this woman, i'm sick of the clintons and I can't wait until they fade away.

    Obama all the way

Looking at this from a foreign perspective, it is surprising that so many Clinton supporters believe she could have won in November while she has never been able to raise funds adequately. Who are all those Clinton supporters who are apparently prepared to split the convention, but are not even helping her pay her campaign expenses?

Ungracious? He didn't run her campaign, so he is not responsible for her debt. Why should Hillary receive a free ride, when she already has countless millions in the bank?

Why should we bail Clinton out. She decided to stay in the race even when she knew she couldn't get the nomination. Since Clintion supporters love her so much why don't they bail her out. I'm not giving her a dime or a vote.

if these cliton supporters really want to get this debt paid off, then why don't they all send in .72 cents each. with the 18 million that supposedly voted for clinton and clinton saying that she's not looking to recover the loans she made to herself the cost to her supporters is less than a jr. cheeseburger. expecting obama to find ways to help pay off this debt is ridiculous. clinton got into this mess by herself, or rather with the encouragement of her 'supporters'. so let the people who made the mess clean it up themselves. people donating to obama are looking to see their money go towards having him elected president, not to retire clinton's debt.

What exactly have the unbelievably ungracious, unethical, lying Clintons given the Obamas except a huge headache?

Where are her "millions" of supporters? If they do exist in those numbers why don't they clear the debt? Or, better yet, she has the money. Let her pay her own debt!

Well, I've continued to give what I could just like during the primary. I thought everyone else was doing the same! This could seriously discourage any future presidential plans... America it is time to step up to the plate!

She kept the race going spending money she did not have even though it was obvious she could not win. She used that money against Obama and now wants him to pay it off, Chutzpah!

Why should Obama help her clear her debt that she mismanaged in her power hungry grab for the office? Why? He has brilliantly managed his money and he should be stuck with her debt, I don't think so! If I never see another clinton again in this life it will be too soon. And what has she done for him, she lied and said if he wins she will do everything in her power to help him get elected and all I've heard her do is beg for money. She is disgusting.
