Disclosure reports show Clinton still deeply in debt

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Clinton is still carrying a sizeable campaign debt."](CNN) - Well over two months have passed since Hillary Clinton formally abandoned her White House bid, but newly-released Federal Election Commission reports show the New York senator has made little headway in paying off her sizeable campaign debt.

According to an FEC report filed Wednesday, Clinton's debt as of the end of July stood at just under $24 million - a decrease of only $1.2 million since the end of June. More than $13 million of that total is owed to the New York senator herself, while close to $11 million is owed to individual vendors. Clinton has suggested she is not seeking to pay back the money she owes herself.

The report also shows Clinton was only able to raise $2 million in the month of July - down from close to $3 million in June. By comparison, Barack Obama raised over $50 million for his White House bid in the same time period.

The report comes as some high-profile Clinton backers have expressed disappointment Obama has not made more of an effort to help his onetime rival retire her campaign debt.

“He has provided her with a pittance compared to what the Clintons have given Obama,” prominent Clinton backer Lynn Forrester told the Times of London. “Her debt could have been cleared within 10 days. It’s ungracious.”

Obama and Clinton have appeared at a handful of joint fundraising events, and the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee has publicly urged his supporters to donate to his former primary season rival - though at a joint appearance with Clinton at a July fundraiser, the Illinois senator forgot to call on his backers to contribute to her. (He later went back on stage to correct himself.)

According to Clinton's disclosure forms filed Thursday, she owes the most ($5.2 million) to her former top advisor Mark Penn's polling/political consulting firm, Penn, Schoen and Berland Associates.

Another day older and deeper in debt.....

It's only to be expected when, in the face of losing the race for the nomination you extend the campaign out ad infinitum. The fact of the matter is no one wants to donate to the loser – especially when that donation goes to retire "worthless" (considering an election is still in progress) debt. You pays your money and you takes your chances....HRC did, and lost.

oh please, deborah. get over it. there are thousands of people who went to wright's church, not just obama. and you can't possibly believe that mccain shares any of your political views if you are indeed 'a life long democrat'. you sound ready to watch your house burn down instead of letting obama help you put out the fire!

i'm quite sure taken in context, the wright comments would not be as divisive as you saw in those 10 – 30 sound bites played endlessly on the news.

And holding your vote hostage unless Obama picks Hillary is sickening. I'm tired of Hillary and her supporters sense of entitlement. She would've made Bush look like the best President ever.

I'm trred of this. I feel badly for her, but with all of her supporters that can't stop whining about how badly she was mistreated, why can't they donate more to her!

If they put their money where their mouth is she would be fine! I think I will contribute to her debt b/c I like her, I just never supported her candidacy.

If she can't manage her own money, can you imagine what she'll do with ours?

With campaign finance laws it is very difficult for Clinton to retire her debt. This is a striking difference between how the two campaigns have been financed. Obama raised money from hist supporters by getting 5, 10, or 20+ dollars per donar. This is well under the 2300 limit imposed by the finance law. This also leaves a large donor base to give to Obama time and time again. Conversly, Clinton's donors gave her the maximum 2300 each, and as a result can not give more. This leaves her in the position where she needs to get new donors in order to retire her debt.

Also, both Michelle and Barak gave the maximum 2300 to Clinton. I am also under the understanding that Obama's campaign can only give a maximum of 250,000 to the Clinton campaign.

If you are upset about the finance situation, then research the laws to see what is legally possible to do.

I'm sooooo sick of Hillary Clinton and her supporters. She ran herself into debt trying to prolong the invetiable. It's total her fault and her ego. She is such a joke. I can't believe some of you people still support her and her lies. She is a disgraceful human being.

The reason the 18 million voters has not helped Hillary is because there are not 18 million voters. The majority of the votes she got came through operation chaos in the open primarys. I can't believe the media is still trying to push her 18 million voters as being a fact. Look at the Texas primary and caucus. The primary was open both dems and repubs could vote. The caucus was closed only dems could vote. Hillary won the primary to due Rush's operation choas. Obama won the caucus. If the primary would have allowed dems only to vote, Obama would have won the primary also.

Most of this money was stolen from the voters during the campaign and diverted to personal accounts of Bill Clinton and Chelsea. I hope they go to jail.

This is the high cost of Hillary Clinton's vanity. She stayed in the race well past her expiration date, spending tens of millions trying to take down Obama by the dirtiest means possible, and now he's supposed to cover her debt? Right.

yeah- so let's put this into some perspective.. her debt is around 23 million…
of that she owes … HERSELF 13 million.. ha ok- nice… 11 million is to Vendors…
did you all read that- it's all up in that article..
So of her 25 million she had on July 31st in hand… why hasn't she paid that 11 million with that 25 million she had in hand?

Obama is ungracious? She can't help herself? Again, I am clearly missing something.

    Please post…

My posts ARE CAPS LOCK getting skipped! Am I typing to correctly? Do I need to 'be a ranting fanatic,' and type in less senseless manners? I can CAPS LOCK if needed.
    Please post.. geesh

Let me get this straight, HRC didn't manage her money and over spent and is now in deep debt, yet people think she can fix the economy. If she can't manage her campaign budget how can see manage the national budget. Absolutely insane.

Here's a idea Hillary, do what the rest of us do with debt, work hard and pay it off and quit looking for nanny state hand outs.

If Clinton made an explicit promise that no contributions will be used to pay Mark Penn, I think she can raise enough to pay the rest of her bets. I'd contribute to repay her own loan before I'd give a dime to Mark Penn.

It's obvious that Hillary and her campaign leaders have taught her followers how to hate and tear down, not how to support and build up. They how to blame others, but will not contribute to help her.

He'll vote for mcwarmonger even though he knows his niece, her husband and my son, his nephew will probably get injured or killed fighting bush's ilegal war.

I love that Clinton's PUMA idiots are spamming and trolling all over the message boards and no matter how much they say they love their candidate, they aren't even helping her pay off her debt. Sounds like idiots looking for a reason to complain, to me.

Why don't the Clintons have a yard sale up in Westchester County?

I'm sure there are plenty of goods from the White House still in storage.
