Cindy McCain heading to Georgia

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Cindy McCain is en route to the nation of Georgia."]
DENVER (CNN) – Cindy McCain, wife of Republican presidential candidate John McCain, is traveling to the nation of Georgia, which has seen intense fighting with Russian forces over the past month, her husband said Monday.

John McCain announced the trip at a fundraiser in Sacramento, California, telling the crowd, “Cindy is not here today, and I am sorry she is not, but she is on her way to the little country of Georgia.”

The wife of the Arizona senator will return on Wednesday, CNN's Dana Bash reported.

Cindy McCain is traveling with the U.N.'s World Food Program and plans to meet with Georgian President Mikheil Sakaashvili as well as wounded Georgian soldiers, a McCain campaign aide told CNN. She is also scheduled to meet with members of the HALO Trust, a group aimed at removing landmines.

In preparation for leaving, Cindy McCain told Time magazine: "There's a very serious landmine issue now, because there are landmines being laid as we speak."

"There's a whole bunch of things going on right now, and as we begin to move refugees from point A to point B or try to feed refugees who are stuck in pockets around the country, we're now running into the issue of the blowing up of humanitarian vehicles that are trying to get to the refugees. So it's a whole morass of problems now," she said.

McCain’s departure comes on the same day Michelle Obama, the wife of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, will address the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado.

Both McCains were in Georgia last year. Cindy McCain told Time her work on missions abroad was "an important part of what I'm about, what makes me tick."

How does visiting Georgia help ease the tension. Sympathy missions will not stop the aggression.

I noticed that Sen McCain in an interview over the weekend remarked about Cindy's father being a B-17 pilot during WWII. Can this man discuss anything without turning the conversation to war? I think that Sen. McCain has served his country well and thank him for his service but that 5.5 years as a POW has done a bit of damage to not just his body but his mind.

I sent her to run for "Buffallo Chip Queen" and plan a family budget on one of our SEVEN kitchen tables. I promise we will balance our credit card debt by 2012.

To the knucklehead going by the name of Truth: If you want to rationalize Obama with Lincoln please remember that more Americans died as a result of war because of his policies, than all of the other wars that makes any sense!?!

Cindy McCain has been doing charitable work longer than you've been alive.

You nimrod Democrats keep saying it's the Repulicans who spew fear at the nation...time to do a gut-check.

Why is it we never hear anything about her. Everyone has everything to say about Michele but we don't hear anything or know anything about her. Why is that CNN, MSNBC, and even FOX
********************************************************************************* Because the Democratic party doesn't send a constant birage of press releases and conference calls for the sole purpose of viciously smearing the spouse of a presidential candidate.

  20. Kitten for Obama

It is amazing how she is in the spotlight. It is more to this than they are saying. It wouldn't surprise me if all of this Georgian situation was a set up to spotlight McCain. PLEASE THINK what voting for McCain is going to get us. Our sons and daughters will be drafted, the economy is a mess and there is no daylight in sight if McCain get in the whitehouse. THINK!!!!

I'd much rather have the lawyer Michelle Obama than thieving adulterous Cindy McCain or Cindy Cocaine? She fits both profile.

Obama has pulled out an Ace with his pick of Biden, McCain can trump him by picking Secretary Rice for VP, that will take alot of those Clinton votes!

You Obama-fans make me sick, she is traveling to a war-zone where people suffer to try to make a difference, and you just bash her? Just because she is rich doesnt mean she doesnt care about people. She has been in many areas doing humanitarian work, where has Michelle been? This is a future first-lady to be proud of.

  24. One of the 33 1/3% Who Will NEVER Vote for Obama!

Go Cindy – at least you're gorgeous! Barack's wife is butt-ugly inside and out!

I've already changed my party affiliation (after being a life-long Democrat and NEVER having voted for a Republican for ANYTHING!) from Democrat to Independent. I have already contributed to McCain's campaign and intend to contribute more. I cannot vote for Obama. He is a racist, race-card playing, disenfranchising (I live in Florida), inexperienced, flip-flopping, stuttering except when reading from a teleprompter, crooked Chicago-style politician with very shady friends and a very racist hate-filled wife.

I am so disgusted with the DNC and the do-nothing Democratic bigwigs who forced this unelectable fool down our throats that I may NEVER vote Democratic again (unless Hillary is running). Hillary may have to kiss Obama's butt, but I don't have to, and I WON'T!
