Cindy McCain heading to Georgia

DENVER (CNN) – Cindy McCain, wife of Republican presidential candidate John McCain, is traveling to the nation of Georgia, which has seen intense fighting with Russian forces over the past month, her husband said Monday.

John McCain announced the trip at a fundraiser in Sacramento, California, telling the crowd, “Cindy is not here today, and I am sorry she is not, but she is on her way to the little country of Georgia.”

The wife of the Arizona senator will return on Wednesday, CNN's Dana Bash reported.

Cindy McCain is traveling with the U.N.'s World Food Program and plans to meet with Georgian President Mikheil Sakaashvili as well as wounded Georgian soldiers, a McCain campaign aide told CNN. She is also scheduled to meet with members of the HALO Trust, a group aimed at removing landmines.

In preparation for leaving, Cindy McCain told Time magazine: "There's a very serious landmine issue now, because there are landmines being laid as we speak."

"There's a whole bunch of things going on right now, and as we begin to move refugees from point A to point B or try to feed refugees who are stuck in pockets around the country, we're now running into the issue of the blowing up of humanitarian vehicles that are trying to get to the refugees. So it's a whole morass of problems now," she said.

McCain’s departure comes on the same day Michelle Obama, the wife of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, will address the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado.

Both McCains were in Georgia last year. Cindy McCain told Time her work on missions abroad was "an important part of what I'm about, what makes me tick."

Is John grandstanding or does he just not like Cindy any more? Or is he trying to get at her inheritance?

I have said this before and I will say it again- there is nothing wrong with being rich. There is also nothing wrong with a woman who has a very successful AMERICAN company who supplies jobs and pensions for AMERICANS.

Grow up people....Obama is rich too and will eventually have more than one house too.

I do not like hate letters and especialy those that think whomever is voting for a candidate not of their choice is an idiot. My son is not voting for my candidate and believe me, he is no idiot!!!!!!!!!
So if this reads like a hate letter, i am sorry! WHAT IN HELL IS MCCAINS WIFE GOING TO DO IN GEORGIA? DOES SHE THINK SHE REPRESENTS ANYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH GOVERNMENT POLICY? OR IS SHE GOING TO OPEN A NEW BEER MARKET?

thank you for attempting to make yourself look qualified for the first lady and boost your husbands credentials. thank you also, for continuing to emit thousands of carbon emissions into our worlds atmosphere with your private jet and not seeming to care.

this election is so much larger than the candidates. its about the direction of our country, the tolerance of our people, and the preservation of our planet.

IF THE DEMOCRATS ARE WISE OR NEED SOME WISDOM, THEY SHOULD ALL VOTE FOR OBAMA BECAUSE THAT WILL GIVE THEM 16 YEARS IN THE WHITE HOUSE AT LEAST.IF MRS. CLINTON HAD GONE IN FIRST, OBAMA WILL NEVER HAD MADE IT TO THE WHITE HOUSE.BUT WITH OBAMA GOING IN FIRST,THE CHANCE IS 100% THAT HILLARY WILL GET IN THERE. OBAMA WITH ALL THESE TOUGH GUYS AROUND HIM AND HILLARY AS THE SECRETARY OF STATE, WILL MAKE A FORMIDABLE,UNBEATABLE TEAM.
    SO GO DEMS. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

You're kidding, right? Cindy to Georgia – For What? Has McCain lost his senses?

There McCain goes again – acting as if he's been elected POTUS already and then he has the gall to say Obama acts that way – Geez.

Cindy had better not do anything but deliver donuts and coffee while she's there (as the neocons see a woman's role anyway). I didn't vote for her for anything so she's not an elected official of this country. If McCain sent her there to act as a U.S. representative in any way, shape or form he should be arrested...

Debby, you obviously don't know the meaning of integrity, unless it means it's okay to sleep with another woman's husband!!!! McCain still cheated on his first wife with her. Yes, integrity all the way!!!

Why is Obama being held to a diferent standard than other candidates, both past and present? How many of our other nominees have been request/required to have war experience; how many of our nominees have been criticized for not having conferred with their opponent about their running mates, especially after a very hot personal race! Who is being disrepected- Obama or Clinton? Who make a choice of a running mate with a husband that means so much 'baggage'? The Clintons would be the running mate, not just Hillary! I liked the Clintons before all of this and would like to at least respect them for what they have tried to do but the Hillary party is over! Why does the news media keep the smoke screen going?

The McCain campaign is running a TV ad attacking Obama with statements that are literally true but paint an incomplete picture.

It says he "voted against funding our troops." He did – exactly once. Obama cast at least 10 votes for war-funding bills before voting against one last year, after Bush vetoed a version that contained a date for withdrawal from Iraq.

It says he "hasn't been to Iraq for years." He was headed there at the time the ad was released, however, and had been there in 2006.

It says he "never held a single hearing on Afghanistan." It was the full Senate Foreign Relations Committee, not Obama's subcommittee, that had the hearings on this global hot spot, and Obama attended one of those. Over the same time period, McCain himself attended none of the Afghanistan hearings held by the Armed Services Committee on which he serves.

    True Leadership!!

First he won't even stand up to W for his wife, now he's sending her to a war zone... and this is who we want to protect us?

Does she now have a cabinet position or something. Since she is acting like Secretary of State can we talk about her now is she fair game? Cindy doesyour husband care about you at all, first he offered you up for a biker bikini contest now he's sending you to a war zone, watch that sniper fire and hard hand shakes. I guess the cast polled well.

Perhaps all the people who are criticizing Cindy do not realize she is on a humanitarian UN mission? Perhaps this highlights the difference between Michelle Obama and Cindy McCain. My question to the attacking Obama cult is when was the last time self-centered Michelle did something good on an international scale.
