What the TV cameras aren't watching

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/08/28/art.smith.ap.jpg caption="Barney Smith got the Invesco crowd to its feet."]While TV cameras weren't watching, "ordinary guy" Barney Smith - part of the convention's "American Voices" segment - brought mile-high stadium to its feet.

He told his story of losing the Indiana factory job he'd held for 30 years and then said America needed a president who paid more attention to "Barney Smith" not "Smith Barney."

The crowd leapt to its feet chanting "Barney, Barney!"

Barney lost his job because of the NAFTA and the NAALC.

He should talk to George Bush senior for working with Canada and Mexico to draft the idea. Furthermore, he should thank Bill Clinton for putting it into action.

Are you sure you want to vote for a 'lesser of evil'?

Was this some of the REAL people that the democrats were going to show.

Too bad more democrats aren't REAL people.

Maybe they'd get it. The democrats are part of the problem.

AMERICANS need to start demanding better quality automobiles made in America, and we need to start buying them. But hey, I'd rather have my Toyota made in California than a Ford made in Mexico!

Well, actually, some of the cameras were watching – just not CNN's. What a disappointment your coverage has been. I saw the first night of the convention that CNN was more interested in hearing themselves than the speakers, so switched to Cspan. And yes, Barney was amazing! Too bad you missed it. You really dropped the ball.

McCain is the candidate of authentic change we can really believe in! He has worked across the aisle and fought for issues that were not popular with his party or president but were good for the American people! 🙂

Obama is the candidate of Chicago patronage politics! He obfuscates, prevaricates and equivocates with a spirit of hubris, arrogance and narcissism that is beyond belief! 🙁

Obama is Bush 2 Ultra! He wants to be "the decider" who will push his elitist far left-wing ideology on a moderate American people!

"No way, no how, no chance, no" Obama! 🙂

I won't watch any of the cable news shows any longer. I do not need CNN's talking heads telling me what to think, constantly interrupting rather than covering the news. KPBS covered the whole event without distracting split screens, tickers, or interruptions. And it's TV cameras showed Barney Smith.

Two terms of George Bush has brought America to its knees, financially and politically. Never before has America been in such a mess, since the civil war, thanks to 8 years of a republican government. I felt for sure during the last federal election, the majority of americans would wake up and realize that another term of republican policy would be a disaster in waiting and elect a the democrats. History proved me right.

Um, chitowngal07, senators are elected for six years, not four. But ignorance about the most basic structures of the government of your country should not, of course, keep you from feeling you have something to contribute.

I was watching Obama's speach the other day and turned to my wife and said "he reminds me of Hitler in Nurnberg. Two days later my brother called and when I asked him of his impression of Obama and he said "he reminds me of Hitler" I sure as hech hope he's not!

I think "aware" missed his or her dose of meds since clearly they're not "aware" of the fact that Obama is going to crush John McSame's tired rear end come November.

This isn't about Democrats or RepubliCONs, it's about a strong leader who has the intelligence to control the hot-headed rhetoric and bully tactics that Bush and Bush-lite (John "I need a Cane" McCain) so love to tout.

Barack Obama is the guy that is going to cut through the political B.S. and start to get this country back on track.

Will someone tell Biden that HE is more of the same. He has been in the senate for over 30 years and the dems are in control of congress AND the senate!!! HE is more of the same, not McCain!! It is scary that we have to point this out to a vice presidential candidate.
