Palin has hired lawyer as trooper probe continues

(CNN) - Alaska Governor Sarah Palin hired a lawyer three weeks ago to act on her behalf as state legislators investigate whether she may have abused her power in firing the state police chief for refusing to fire her ex-brother-in-law, a state trooper, CNN has confirmed.

A report of findings of a legislative inquiry that began several weeks ago is currently slated to be released just days before Election Day.

I hope they stay on it. Abuse of Power. I hope they don't let up at all. The Repubs would go after Obama/Biden for much less than this. America wants to know the truth. I have NO CONFIDENCE in this ticket McCain/Palin. I agree with Donna, Palin got lawyered up to delay any depositions etc, so she's not under oath during the election.

    C'mon media !

WHERE is the intense coverage of this Troopergate and other issues surrounding Palin ?!

If it was Obama or Biden, Obama would be packing for home !

The issue is the wisdom and judgment in making decisions.
Being a mother is more than making the decision to bring a pregency to term, I commend them both for making the hard choices.

There is another side to consider. A mother of a child with special needs, a child struggling with early pregnancy a possible new marriage, and the usual day to day concerns with the other children and her husband, all of this should be involved in judgment and making choices. What is the most valuable? The media and pundits will have their say considering their own agendas. Being a mother is demanding under ordinary circumstances.

I am not a crazy liberal as those of us that speak out are labeled; I am a concerned senior citizen. Our lives, our country, our safety, and our participation in a global society deserves mature and careful thinking leadership
Sarah Palin is young she could run another time when family issues are less complicated.
Some times in trying to be soo very understanding the big picture is missed.

Looks like she was picked by Rove. The first time McCain introduced her he read her name off a card. This woman was not vetted and it sounds like the attorney was hired during the pick.Another republican scam. They will use anyone or anything.Women of America are so insulted by this I hope. And whats worse is to release it when they pretend to be concerned about the hurricanes. It's a ploy to avoid media coverage.

@Michael Boston...maybe you should read up on the topic before you start posting. She didn't fire her ex-brother in law she fired the man over him b/c he refused to fire the brother in law. Then she replaced him with somebody who had accusations of sexual misconduct and was fired and given $10,000 severance pay after 2 weeks. This is not the first time she had done this either. She did the same thing as a mayor when she fired 2 city employees who didn't support her mayoral run! She's far from the reformer the republicans are making her out to be.

I have a serious question for everyone: Do you think Obama (or any black person) would have a chance at the highest office in the nation if he or she had a pregnant teen-age daughter?

I know Obama said today that his mother had him when she was 18, but his mother did not run for President or Vice-President. As a black woman, I just think there would be a serious double standard if Obama had a pregnant teen. (Acutally I don't think he would have run with that kind of stuff going on in his immediate family.) Leaders should probably "rule their own house" well before trying to step out into the glaring spotlight of political leadership.

"Hiring a lawyer is the norm in things like this. She would be a fool if she didn't hire one"

Uh no, I think that the norm is not being in legal trouble as a possible vp in the first place…funny how some comments made here are actually trying to justify her actions (actually it's pretty sad).

It amazes me that over the last hour the Republican Spin people have said that Palin is like Ronald Reagan and another said she is a hero. Who do they think they are talking to??? The American public isn't stupid!! John McCain's poor choice is unraveling before our eyes and they are trying to spin it like we can't even think for ourselves!! CNN don't back down. America wants to know the truth about this person he has selected to be VP.

I am sick and tired of the "news" stations, be it CNN, Fox, MSNBC or any of the so-called news media calling everything "late breaking news" for hours upon days after a news story has been broken.
Come on; let's leave the candidates' families out of all the news. I guess none of us have had or know a teenager that has become pregnant. That's not news. That is a way of life. It always has been and always will be. Who of you have never asked for or received favorable treatment when you or your friends or a family member has asked for it?
I am going to block all news media until after the election. I have made up my mind anyway and do not have the time or patience to listen to the rubbish that you refer to as news. Please, let us listen to the candidates without all the political analysis that is usually unfair anyway.

On a different blog, a person from Alaska said we should be very careful – she's "Cheney in a skirt".

Just saying – guess the truth will come out …….. or get hidden ……….

I do agree that we should leave her kids out of it.

SHE is fair game if she is wanting to be #2 in this country. WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO KNOW.

If what I understand that Sara Palins; brother-in-law tasered his 10 year old child and the chief chose not to fire him then I as a sister would do everything I could to help out my family. But Palin needs to show evidence.
I think that there is also more going on with this brother-in-law so investigate him first before you go after Palin.

Switch the letters "A and L" in Palin and you get Plain.
The President must have good judement and a good team to catch him when he makes a dumb call.

Come on America wake up to see what corrupt out of touch buffoons McCain/Palin are. The Republicans promise to restore morality in America, but they can't keep their own families in order.

I must say, I am extremely disappointed with CNN... because if this sor of corruption was taking place in the democratic campaign.... you would be ripping Obama a new one. Why do you not hold the GOP to the same standards as the democrats.

... and to the RNC... yeah... it surely is more of the same. All the cheap shots you have taken at Michelle, and you have the nerve to say this is a private family matter... you have GOT to be kidding me. You guys have SUCH double standards. You should be ashamed of yourselves!

If McCain can't get his first, most basic decision right, how in Gods name can he get America back on track. As for Palin's kid being pregnant, that talk about abstinence really got through didn't Sara?

As for the lawsuit,, would she have fired the guy if it was someone elses sister with the domestic abuse case, I seriously doubt it.

I really think Sarah should put her family first and not run for VP. She has a baby who has special needs and now a still young woman who needs alot of support. This is not the time for amother to not be available.

I am not only questioning McCain for his choice but I am questioning Sarah for signing on when her family needs her. Where is the sacrifice that most mothers make?

This is getting interesting. But I will like to warn the Democrats to make sure they protect their interest in this. The Bush white house and the Republicans as a whole have never been held responsible for anything they have ever done wrong in their lives. If she did anything wrong in this case she should be held liable for it. The American people should also demand that she be held liable for it too.

mrs morality/congeniality cannot even handle her family affairs. abuse of power for trying to get her ex-brother-in-law fired. allegations of abuse and over the top behavior are for the courts to decide.
    husband arrested for dui.
17 year old unwed 5 month pregant daughter. she "intends" to marry the father? that being the case, she should have done so as soon as she found out.
intentionally hiding her daughter's pregnancy by having her hold her own 4 month old baby wrapped in a huge blanket?
embraced the bridge to nowhere until it became unpopular?
believes in aerial hunting of caribou and grizzly bears for sport?
doesn't believe polar bears will bear the brunt of her support for oil drilling in wildlife sancaturies in alaska?
mrs. congeniality is in for even bigger surprises when the press really starts to dig into her past.
she should have done the right thing by declining mccain's choice due to personal reasons. some people love power more than their families, and this lady is no exception.
    john mccain is a dodo.
