PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) - A senior adviser to the McCain campaign confirmed Monday that Todd Palin, husband to Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, was arrested for driving while intoxicated in 1984.
"Yes, 24 years ago he had a DWI," senior McCain adviser Steve Schmidt told reporters in St. Paul.
Schmidt was asked if he was worried about the news, and replied, “I was not.”
The story was first reported by David Brody, a CNN contributor and Christian Broadcasting Network News Senior National Correspondent.
Family Values all the way around...Mom is being investigated for abuse of power, unweb preganant daughter, and a husband driving drunk.
Hey "Since Mac," she admitted it. BTW...It's legal in Alaska to have 4 oz for personal use.
God you liberals are insane.
just one, this is news reporting , the story should be McCaines hormones still working picks beauty queen for side kick.
if you want the lime light open all the closets.
McCain 1st stage of oldsheimer..
WOW, they are like every other American Family!!! Come on CNN. Nobody is perfect.
I could have been hallucinating but Sen Obama admitted directly to the interviewer in a documentary on him that he "experimented with drugs" while in high school, which was probably more recent than this guy's dui. When will this nonsense stop?
Palin can not handle her own family. How can she handle the country..... This should have been discovered during the vetting process. Opps was she ever vetted...... Bad judement on McCain's part......
1984??...what a joke..has he done anything positive since 1984??...if so what??? CNN shame on you for this. what a B.S. approach to reporting news. I think I will stick with BBC.
With Barry's own admission to illegal drug use...I guess it makes his story better since he wasn't arrested for it?
Please...come on Obamafreaks...you need to argue more relevant points.
I believe in the Democrats platform, which is why I'll probably vote for their candidates. But I feel Mr Palin's deep past is of record but it shouldn't be exploited to tarnish who he is today, or play into his wife's electability. I think that he and his wife dealing with a teenage pregnancy is far more eye-opening into the character of his wife, and her family dynamic.
DWI, 1984? What does this have to do with the price of Big Mac's in Madrid?
This is what happens when you only have one date before you get married people...................... Obama in a Landslide.......I agree Mr Murdoch
A husband for a drunk and gets arrested for a DWI. At least, he was prevented from killing someone. And a high school daughter that is pregnant. Wonderful home life. No parenting or supervision for the parents are messed up. Great GOP choice!
Long time ago, but combined with teen pregnancy makes this family look pretty trashy- but no one is ever allowed to judge anyone based on a person's lack of serious education (University of Idaho is a joke), bad taste, criminal history, and lack of parental guidance (teen pregnancy). Most of America will simply identify with this loser family.
what are they smoking up in Alaska?
Just keeping up the Republican tradition here! Bush has one and I think Cheney has two..
What else is there to do in Alaska except drink and have sex??
It was extremely SELFISH for McCain to ask Sarah Palin to become his VP. For goodness sake, she has her hands full. What was McCain thinking and why did Sarah accept? Sarah Palin, you have a 4month old baby with special needs who desperately needs your love, attention and devotion and now your teenage daughter is pregnant too? Is this some kind of sick joke the GOP is unleashing on us? Sarah, your family needs you more than America needs you!!! STEP DOWN NOW! McCain you are absolutely the worst to put your personal ambition above anything else just win the Presidency at all costs! Did you really vet this woman??? How is the pandering to women voters working for you so far??? YOU WILL NEVER GET MY VOTE! YOU McCain, are NO maverick and you Sarah Palin are NO Hillary! You are both despicable! You will get your answers on November 4th!
p.s – McCain, what is your deal with "beauty queens"? Your first wife who cheated on her husband with you and then whom you later married and subsequently dumped because she became disfigured was a beauty queen. Your second and current wife Cindy whom you cheated on your first wife with was also a beauty queen. And now you give us a VP who was also a former beauty queen??? Are you toying with American lives??? Do you think a beauty queen will solve all the problems we currently have??? McCain, you will get your answer loud and clear on November 4th!
Obama/Biden 08 & 12
Big deal. I'm sure more and better will come out about this model family if we have this and the pregnancy in just 24 hours!
Umm...was that about the same time Barack Obama was using illegal drugs?
Just about the time Obama was trying drugs? Lets not forget what Ted Kennedy was quilty of when he was young? As for her daughter being pregnant – would this be news if she was not the VP pick? I do not think there are many out there that should be casting the first stone, do you?
It just gets better and better 🙂 Funny, before this was revealed Obama's inhaling (or Bill's not inhaling) spoke to "character"....now it's irrelevant....hmmmm, how the perspective changes depending on who's in the spotlight
If McCain and Palin get elected, they are going to take this country and world back to ancient civilization.
Is she has pride and shame of her won, she should gracefully exit and withdraw her nomination. This will save the left over pride (if any) of the GOP.
Well..........whoop-dee-doo!! The 'libs' have started in already. How old was Mr. Palin then, and...........what does this have to do with the price of yams? Some of these press 'digs' are simply ridiculous!
So what? Big Deal. Move on. CNN has sunk a new low lettting this have any credence towards the election. . .
"MAVARICK TO A GELDING September 1st, 2008 1:47 pm ET
Seems Todd has missed a couple of Sunday's in church, the ones where your supposed to value other people's lives as much as your own."
You don't really want to talk about missing a couple Sunday's in church do you? Think about Rev. Jeremiah Wright's sermons and whether you're Messiah lied about actually attending that church or somehow missed out on the vile "sermons" that were spewing from the "Reverend."
Not the perfect family- but certainly representative of MOST American families I know.
Wasn't Obama a drug user?
