Biden reacts to Rove insult

Sens. Biden and Obama campaigned together in Michigan Sunday.

Sens. Biden and Obama campaigned together in Michigan Sunday.

(CNN) – If Sen. Joe Biden was hurt that Republican operative Karl Rove called him a “big blowhard doofus” at an event in Minneapolis Monday, he didn’t show it.

On hearing the news, Biden grinned and said “he’s a great American.”

The blog Politicker ME reports that at a Maine delegate breakfast at the Republican National Convention, Rove, the so-called “architect” of the Bush administration, called Biden a “big blowhard doofus.” Biden, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, is notorious in Washington for being talkative at Senate hearings.

Later, in response to a different question, Rove is reported to have asked "Is there press in this room?"

Biden addressed the criticism during a flight on his campaign plane Monday evening. A reporter asked if the senator would now answer to “Senator Doofus.”

“You can call me anything you want,” he said. “I learned a long time ago you can call me anything you want.”

Both political parties have made a point in recent days to draw down partisan rhetoric as Hurricane Gustav threatened the Gulf Coast. Biden said he would have no trouble drawing his sword in the weeks to come.

“I don’t think we’ll have any trouble resuming the campaign,” he said. “I guess Karl did it already. I guess he didn’t get the memo.”

Biden’s campaign spokesman quickly released a statement rebuking Rove for the comments.

“It’s more than a little sad that with another hurricane heading for the Gulf Coast, Karl Rove is up to the same old attack politics that he practically patented while helping dig a deep hole for our country to get out of,” said Biden Spokesman David Wade. “Americans deserve better, especially at a time like this.”

Oh yeah; a guy with a nickname "Turd blossom" has a lot of room to go making comments like that!

    Rove is yesterday's news...

  3. Common Sense!

Rove's comment is typical Rove. He is in the distinct minority that loves Bush and Cheney.

I am proud that Biden did not react to the Rove insult by calling him a draft dodging, unpatriotic jerk that avoided Viet Nam just as Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld did.

Karl Rove? A Guy who, if his protector President would ever let him be tried, would be convicted of the same thing Scooter Libby was before President Doofus pardons him? Karl Rove? The same guy who is above testifying under oath in front of the Senate and who, if subpoenaed to testify would run to President Doofus to avoid having to testify? THAT Karl Rove? consider the source and realize that the source is slime and an American traitor.

    Wow Karl.

You should know "doofus" if anyone should, seeing as how you were the "architect" responsible for putting one into the White House over the last 8 years. You saw the "doofus" in the many people who bought this guy and was therefore able to sell your "doofus" to them. GENIOUS!

"Fool me once....". How does that go again?????

It's so funny to watch Rove try to remain relevant. He's reduced to name-calling.

Now we all can see just what kind of people have been running the show in the White House. Pathetic really

Karl Rove should be put in prison. PERIOD.

As for the people who are touting the Republican talking point that Palin has more experience than Sen. Obama, read this for yourself and stop being puppets...

Why does anyone give Karl Rove any credence whatsoever? Perhaps the doofuses are those who follow his marketing advice, and disregard ethics and the Constitution. Or perhaps they're the ones who give him any press at all. Do the Nation a favor, leave his opinion, corrupt and as ignorant as ever, out of every commentary he tries to access.

Look who's talking. Mr. Garbage himself. Over and over again this man shows he has no dignity. Is there no law that makes people like Karl Rove shut their filthy mouth? That Rove figure brought a lot of damage, not only to America, but to the world. This man sadled the world with George W. Bush and look how we're doing. Thanks to Rove and the Bush administration America is no longer the superpower it ones was. And mark my words: If McCain is going to be president, America will be a third world country. All the money will be needed to make war. The new superpowers will be: China, India and Russia. Oh, and mr. Biden: you really are a man of honour. No reaction is the only way to treat these inferior creatures.

It is ironic that whenever somebody resorts to name calling, they end up looking really bad themselves.
