'Real World' star gives her reality-check on Palin

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Former reality star Rachel Campos-Duffy at the CNN Grill during the Republican National Convention."]ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) – “Now we have a race,” Rachel Campos-Duffy said of McCain’s “excellent choice” for vice president, Sarah Palin.

The ‘Real World’ reality star and Republican activist was dining at the CNN Grill Wednesday evening with her three-month old newborn in tow. Campos-Duffy, like Palin, is a mother of five.

“I think before, maybe we could’ve won, but I think that now we have a real, really good shot at it. I really do,” Campos-Duffy said of Palin on the ticket.

“I don’t really have a lot in common with Hillary Clinton. I have a heck of a lot more in common with this woman, and I think that most people I know, Democrat or Republican, would say the same thing.”

The conservative blogger, a frequent contributor to a parenting site, says 17-year-old Bristol Palin’s decision to have her baby only puts a “stamp on [the family’s] pro-life credentials.”

“They say that pro-choice is sort of the women’s position, but I think that women’s positions on choice are really softening,” Campos-Duffy said. “When [women] have had 40 ultrasounds, had babies, and seen spina bifida operations done in utero, I think there’s a lot more softening about women’s decisions.”

Duffy is married to fellow “Real World” alum, Sean Duffy, now a Republican delegate from Wisconsin. Oh, if you are wondering, Rachel starred in Season Three, "Real World San Francisco."

    Bitter Joe,

What is so wrong with Socialism? This is what it means
Socialism is the politico-economic theory of social organization advocating that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be regulated or owned by the community, and in an easy translation that means the government is of the people, for the people and by the people. To me it seems the Republicans want the government to be run by retards with guns. Republicans seem to me to lean more toward Dictatorship or the Old Monarchy that we fought the Revolutionary War to get away from.

Also, please tell me EXACTLY what John McCain or Sarah Palin have done for me lately, or you for that matter. Unless you live in Alaska, Sarah Palin has done NOTHING for you because as the Alaskan Governor, she only has had to care about Alaskans so far. Most of the comments I have read coming against Sarah Palin are coming from ALASKANS. They know her and they even hate her stupid butt and don't believe the words that are coming out of her mouth.

I agree with Charles Black 1000% and it is true. Also, if you want to put religion in it and say what would Jesus do? NOT CARRY A GUN
that if for sure. I do not even know how someone could use gun and God in the same sentence. TOTALLY HYPOCRITICAL!!

As for Russians and Al Qaeda shaking in their boots Bitter Joe.
IF they are, it is only because they are on the floor rolling with laughter.
I am sure they think Sarah Palin is more of a joke than I do, and she is a PRETTY BIG JOKE TO ME!!!

@Carl – it would never be Ron Paul. Paul would campaign WITH Obama before he did with McCain.

But yeah, who cares about some reality TV star. Reality TV is fake just like the GOP ticket!

Obama has no new ideas of change, it is the ultra liberal side of politics. Guess what either way its change, its not Bush. You can keep saying that McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time but Obama has voted the liberal agenda 98% of the time. How is that change, his ideas are not new.

Such outrage about Palin...Who is taking care of the kids....Where is this concern with Obama and his wife on the campaign trail for the last year and a half. Is Biden being jabbed at for staying in the Senate when he tragically ended up as a single father. Who was taking care of his kids?

All the outrage toward Palin "making fun" of Obama being a community organizer. Well, Obama first came out with a jab against her being a Mayor of a small town then saying his executive experience comes from running his campaign.

So, Having a underage pregnant daughter qualifies Palin to rule the free world??? That is beyond stupid. That is like wrapping America up with a big bow, calling China, Iran, or Russia, & telling them to come get us. America is on too many prescripts that are obviously messing with people's brains..

I think it is reprehensible that she is politicizing her children AND exposing that baby to health risks with the travel, crowd, noise etc – Down's babies have very fragile immune systems shows very poor judgment

I don't believe Sarah Palin's decision to not terminate her pregnancy
(even though knowing it would be a Down's syndrome child), or her daughter Bristol"s making the same decision is that extraordinary.
Women and girls make that same choice around the country who are
both prolife and prochoice. But if Mrs.Palin and/or her daughter Bristol
decided to carry a child to full term that resulted from either being raped or a victim of incest (as I heard in one news report Mrs.Palin
believes) now that would put a real "stamp on (the family's) pro-life
credentials. I'm sure in those circumstances she would continue to be blessed by her loving family and husband who would all help raise that child ("as long as they were good" as stated by her ideal
Mr. Mom high school sweatheart). Goverment funded programs for
special needs children will also play a part in some of the care I
would imagine. It is hard to imagine any pregnant woman deciding
on abortion under these special circumstances, if so blessed with
these resources. Again, if so blessed.

I'm glad Palin's daughter is keeping her baby, but other teenage girls are not so fortunate. They cant afford babies. They'll have to get an abortion.

Let's educate our girls to make the right and not teach kids to have kids and to openly agree and accept the abnormal.

Who will be paying for Pristol's baby diapers? her mom?

Pro life means you will take responsibility to raise the chld hyou choose tohave rather than running around being a politician, least of all, the VP How wouldany mother be VP and raise a handicapped baby and tend to a pregnant daughter who is almost a chldherself. Pro life means you are a pro mother. I certainlhy don't think her mind will be on security, economy and the rest with those family problemsandthey shouldn't. Would aman be held to the same tasks No. We haven'tarrived at that place yet. For some men it might work, for others they would delegate to their wives, but the bottomline is...Is she a mother first or a politician first? You just don't have a bazby and turn it over to someone else to raise andhyou don't take on a serious job like the VP unless hyou can give hour all to it.

Hey JJ, a hypocrite is someone who preaches family values and abstinence as a method for birth control, then can't prevent her own daughter from becoming pregnant at 17. Then proceeds to act as if it is some sort of blessing. The hypocrite republicans follow suit and act is if something wonderful has occurred. A hypocrite is someone who tries to mock a community organizer, someone who helps the public with little recognition or pay but does so out of benevolence.
A hypocrite is someone who criticizes their oponent for supporting big government, then lies about her vote on the bridge to nowhere. Wake Up.

who is this woman.... and why should we care? Sure, like every citizen, she is entitled to her views and opinions (that is what makes our country great after all....) but really CNN.... is this a slow news day or what? Do you want to interview the man who works at my local Starbucks on his views?

I bet in a lot of those small towns where they not other cling to their guns and prayers, they also look out for each other I would call them the original community orgs. Where every activity involving existence in rual life depends on your neighbor. I quess small towns would'nt get a plush chair around the big rep. table.

I believe that small town people are insulted by your, reps, totally disregard for their believes that include clinging to their guns and prayers, but also include a hell of a lot more. What Obama said was more in line with relating to these people. the salt of the earth, or the community org. in wanting ensure that their concerns are addressed.

And more importantly, they are not left out.

All of you small town people, the reps response to you is that they will fed you cake will you cling.

hmm..yeah, women's position on choice and their reproductive decisions are really "softening" – NOT. i'm tired fo this idea that women are pro-choice because they want to get abortions. NO woman wants to get an abortion. and i'm also tired of people forcing their beliefs and ideologies on others. if you don't want to get an abortion, then don't get one. it's that simple. i'll make my own decisions and i think that every women should have the right to make her own decisions.

Take care of your baby and watch out for your man because he's still seeing your reality buddies.
