New ad declares McCain-Palin 'original mavericks'

The McCain campaign is out with a new ad Monday.

(CNN) - Republicans John McCain and Sarah Palin are out with a new television ad Monday, declaring themselves the "original mavericks."

The 30-second spot, set to air in key states, says McCain and Palin will "make history" and "change Washington."

"He fights pork barrel spending," the ad's narrator states. "She stopped the Bridge to Nowhere. He took on the drug industry. She took on big oil."

Palin's statement claiming to have opposed the now-infamous "Bridge to Nowhere" has been disputed by opponents who note she supported the major earmark when she campaigned for governor of Alaska in 2006. According to the non-partisan, Palin didn't oppose the project until Congress had already nixed it.

I think everyone who puts comments forth, should do it with decency. For all of you Obama supporters, somehow, you think this man is going to fix all of your problems and handout money on a silver platter to you ... think again. What we need is new direction in washington, and a maverik ticket like McCain and Palin ... will do the trick for most americans. A Obama-Biden sounds like same old politic as usual ... and a return to the Jimmy Carter era. We have more issues to deal with then Obama can even imagine. So, we need a strong international america (McCain) and a strong internal america (Palin) to make things happen.

    McCain / Palin – 2008/12

P.S. I think most McCain supporters were brought up by decent parents, and learned to be nice to folk when commenting about issues.

Two different roles, two different responsibilities. As Governor, you get as much as you can for your state. As Vice President, you do the right thing for the American people.

The rabid Left, including by NBC's own admission, this blog, would like to spin everything in their favor – including your haircuts!

Just listen to all of the reporting that starts "The Obama camp doest this.... and THEY do that..." Count the "THEY'S" and you can hear which side of the fence each reporter sits!

'No thanks' to that bridge? Here are the facts, as reported by CBS News correspondent Wyatt Andrews. Congress killed off the earmark well before Gov. Palin formally abandoned it. And while the bridge is in fact a dead project, the state still kept the money — all $233 million in federal funds. So what did she save the tax payers?

This "maverick" branding makes me want to vomit. Watching the RNC, I must have heard the word maverick 800 times.

Just because you keep repeating that you are something, doesn't make it true in the minds of the educated public. This stuff might work with the conservative base who want to agree with whatever McCain says, but it won't work with independent voters and democrats.

Their policies just don't match up with the image they are selling.

If McCain and Palin are such "mavericks" ... or "march to the beat of your own drum," why did they have to glom onto someone else's change message. Not even original enough to think of their own word.

McCain is only leading in the polls because of his convention bounce. Obama had an 8 point lead because of his, so give it a week or two to balance back out when the next 'big' political item hits the news. (Probably the debates)

Just the fact that there is a convention bounce should be scary. People are that gullible that they switch back and forth depending on that next big political news item. Makes you wonder...

    How about this:

I still can't believe people are supporting Republicans after the 8 years of mess they have created. We will never learn.

America please wake up.John McCain has helped to put this country in the terrible shape that it is in now, and now he wants four more years to do more of the same. What are you thinking? Are you so shallow that you would elect him because he selected an unqualified woman to be his running mate? Or is it something more sinister?

"orginal mavericks?" If these two are "mavvericks," our Earth does not revolve around the sun! What is so "maverick" about being carbon copies of Bush and Cheney and having Big Corporate America pulling your puppet strings all while you bamboozle the evangelicals into thinking you care about their christian agenda?

WOW!!! EVERYONE in the world knows she didn't support the Bridge to Nowhere until after Congress debunked it yet she STILL uses the "Maverick" title! It's bad when you lie behind our back but it's ignorant when you LIE in our face! Sounds like a FOLLOWER to me!
Oh, and McCain calls himself a "Maverick" when he FOLLOWED the lead of Bush 90% on the time. Do they know the definition of Maverick?!

    I love it!!!

Palin says yes to bridge, then says to stop its building when that becomes politically expedient, but she keeps the money and puts it toward other stuff.

Obama keeps hammering the whole, "these people must think you are stupid thing". But people don't realize that they are. If they could realize how stupid they were, this would have been over.

Obama tells America how it is; people are just too dumb to get it. I guess America deserves the leader they pick...But God I hope it isn't McCain, I mean Palin...Yeah, both would be terrible...

'Leaders need to be chosen from the most talented among us, not from the bottom of the barrel. And we shouldn't be afraid to say so.

What kind of misplaced chivalry would keep the Democrats from calling Sarah Palin what she is? An ignorant, misinformed, inexperienced, bigoted fraud. And unless we find a way to do it, she will be running the country before we have time to turn around.'-Naomi Foner Huffpo blogger

McCain is leading in ONLY ONE of the polls... and not by 10 points but only 4. Where do you people get your info from... FIX-ed News??

Once again... Republicans just can't seem to get their facts straight!!

It's always easier for them to lie or just make stuff up than to just tell the truth to the American Public!! And you people not only identify with them... but support them and vote for them!! What would your mothers say if they only knew.

I know what they'd say... 'MOTHERS DON'T LET THEIR CHILDREN GROW UP TO VOTE REPUBLICAN!" That's what they'd say!!

For a a large part you can sell the American People whatever you want – as long as they have a chance to buy it, they do. What a joke ... But you know, we deserve the difficulties we are in right now since we elected Bush – TWICE. There comes a time for the end of every empire, and the time is near for the USA. We could stop it but too many run like the lemmings behind the Repubs and chant whatever they are told to.
