Vet group calls for investigation into Track Palin's deployment

(CNN) - A liberal veterans group called Monday for an official investigation into media discussion of Track Palin’s deployment to Iraq — prompting a Defense Department response that there had been no irregularities involved, and would be no investigation.

“Numerous outlets have reported the date and location of Palin's deployment, which compromises operational security,” said Vote Vets in a statement. “The source of the leaks would be acting in violation of the law, and putting troops at unnecessary risk, and could be prosecuted.”

But the kind of information the group is referring to is typically publicly released by the Defense Department well in advance of a unit’s deployment. And the date of Palin’s upcoming deployment has been referred to numerous times by his mother, Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, on the campaign trail.

"There is no violation of operational security,” said Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman. “DoD tells the public when we rotate a brigade into Iraq or Afghanistan."

There was no word from the Pentagon on whether there had been any requests for special consideration in Track Palin’s case. Earlier this year, John McCain asked the media not to report the precise date and time his son Jack would be returning from Iraq until he was back in the United States, a request that was honored by all major news organizations.

I wouldn't be surprised if he became a "POW". Obviously they are not above exploiting soldiers for their best interest, just look at what they did with Jessica Lynch.

Obama "thought" about joining the military. Of course, he didn't remember thinking about it until a couple of days ago. Funny how he never mentioned it in either of his VERY SCARY books!

One of the reasons why Track Palin is being deployed in Iraq is that he vandalized a school bus in 2005 and was given the choice : military or jail. He was then sent to Michigan to train.
    Great family !

Wow. The democrats need to go back to grade school. What is a militray Bruce? Trudy, you dont sound like an independent. I guess I am glad you are white. You must be racist and have some problems with color. Since the dems cannot compete with McCain/Palin on the issues they are attacking things no one cares about.

Mrs. Palin better be ready. Obama been beaten up for months and months and months now.

There is NO WAY Mrs. Palin could handle the primaries like Obama or Clinton and there is NO WAY she could be president, let alone a senator from Anycity, Illinois!

His deployment is been used to gin up votes and I am sure Palin had him enlist to achieve her "plans".

Oh, for Heaven's sake! I supposed she somehow managed to conceive a baby with Down's Syndrome to achieve her "plans" as well.

One kid named after a hunting skill. One named after the city where ESPN (Palin's true aspiration) is based. One whose second middle name is Van (Trig Paxson Van Palin) so it sounds like Van Halen.

I mean, these are really the people we want in charge?

    Go Sarah!

Wow, just about every post I read was either not about the story of the deployment or was dead wrong. An uninformed voice is simply noise. This article should never have been run in the first place because it isn't news. Vote Vet should make sure they have their game on before going public with this type of information. Every major line unit that deploys knows several months in advance their official planned date of deployment. Both Liberal and Conservative groups need to start thinking before wasting our time with garbage that has no meaning.

Wow! Liberals can't attack with any positions of their own – from their candidates or themselves – so they have to go after kids of the candidates, spouses, etc. I find it refreshing that the independent voters get a chance to see how an Obama/Bieden office would handle those that oppose their views.

First of all, it does not surprise me a bit that she would put her son in harm's way for political gain after blatantly exploiting her pregnant teen daughter and then blaming the media.

Second, anyone who really wants to know where Palin stands, go to youtube and check out the latest video of her giving a pretty radical speech. You thought reverend Wright was bad, he has nothing on this chick.

Third, Rove is still running things in the know, the guy who outted the CIA agent. He doesn't care who dies because of leaks. He just wants to win.

To Anonymous – How come now you ask God to help America, when you libs always try to keep God out of every place in America.
Sounds like desperation to me as you can see that your Messiah who used to able to walk on water is now sinking fast.

How does this violate national security? I've seen deployment ceremonies 100 times on my local news (Phila). They show the soldiers and their families saying goodbye. I also heard that Biden's son would be deployed in the fall. It's pretty difficult to keep that a secret since he's the Attorney General of Delaware. Gee, I wonder how he got that job.

How many of those attacking Palin on this issue have their own children going to join the military?

Doesn't matter he is over the age of 18 and can decide what he wants to do with his life. Respect his choice and pray that he and everyone else comes home safe and soon.

At least he didn't decided to try drugs instead like someone else

    Obama has done nothing wrong.

Sarah Palin is the one that was telling everyone in her speeches that Track was leaving for Iraq on September 11th.

I honestly cannot believe you people – if I'm not reading about how she should've aborted her baby (whatever happened to 'it's my uterus?'), she should be home taking care of her kids instead of having a career, or she's named her kids stupid names. This is absolutely ridiculous.

It is unbelievable that this woman came onto the political scene and has to be treated with kid gloves. Let us leave their children alone but go after this woman. I feel there are a lot of skeletons in her closet but not enough time to find them. Look Americans if we keep getting misled by these McSame and Cheney Jr. we may very well regret the outcome. By then it will be too late.

By the way, you right wingers need to stop acting like "left wing" and "liberal" are bad words if you want to gain the support of independents and democrats. It is very divisive and counterproductive to pretend that one political view is superior to the other.

Obama's chruch should pay taxes too. Reverend Wright used his church to spew his hatred. I still can't believe Obama went to his church for 20 years. Talk about a nut job.

It saddens me to think that the Republicans think that they own the Copyright on patriotism, but exploit it every chance they get.

I thought it was hilarious that the Republicans mocked Obama's community service years, all the while, the crowd was waiving "Service" signs. I guess in the minds of Republicans, the only form of Service is the military.

Sarah Palin is so stupid that she keeps talking about her son deploiment on the campaign, she does not know that she is exposing her son. Kids should be off limit because of their security. Sarah need to learn to shut her running mouth.
