McCain camp responds to Obama's education ad

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="The McCain campaign is out with a new ad."] (CNN) - John McCain’s campaign responded to Barack Obama’s new education ad Tuesday with a tough new spot that said the Democratic nominee’s only achievement on the issue was backing bills to bring sex education to children – marking a rare campaign ad foray into culture war territory.

“Education Week says Obama ‘hasn't made a significant mark on education.’ That he's ‘elusive’ on accountability,” says the announcer in the 30-second spot. “A ‘staunch defender of the existing public school monopoly.’

“Obama's one accomplishment? Legislation to teach ‘comprehensive sex education’ to kindergartners.

“Learning about sex before learning to read?

“Barack Obama. Wrong on education. Wrong for your family.”

The campaign said the ad will air in ‘key states.’

Within minutes, the Obama camp battled back. “It is shameful and downright perverse for the McCain campaign to use a bill that was written to protect young children from sexual predators as a recycled and discredited political attack against a father of two young girls – a position that his friend Mitt Romney also holds,” said campaign spokesman Bill Burton. “Last week, John McCain told Time magazine he couldn’t define what honor was. Now we know why.”

The ad marks a reprise of a primary season attack on Obama by a former McCain rival.
More than a year ago, then-presidential candidate Mitt Romney attacked Obama over his assurance to Planned Parenthood that he believed some sex education should begin in kindergarten - prompting a response from the Democrat's campaign team that during his tenure as Massachusetts governor, the state had allowed those lessons to begin as early as pre-kindergarten.

Earlier Tuesday, the Obama campaign released a new ad linking education policy to economics, accusing the Republican nominee of voting to cut education funding and telling voters “John McCain doesn’t understand.”

The McCain campaign accused the Obama team of making misleading claims in the spot.

Obama is risky and I just don't trust a man who was in the senate for 143 days and decided that he wanted to be the president. he hasn't done anything in his job and is risky.

McCain is an honorable man and a man who will protect our country and our values.

I see Obama is not ready and even Joe Biden said that obama was not ready. Hillary said Obama lacks the experience for the job.

Heavy comments by the lions of the Democratic Party.

Let's support the Republican ticket all the way to the White House.

Nobama, what other education legislation have you been for? NADA ZERO. As a matter of fact in your 1 true year in senate (aside from the present votes) you haven't done anything else. Truth hurts.

This ad is laughable, coming from McCain, a man who either didn't know or didn't remember that Checkoslovakia hasn't been a country in 15 years. A man who can't remember a single vote when questioned by the press, and has to tell the press to "check with my staff"...who needs to focus on education, John? Candidate, educate thyself before casting a stone at the candidate who WILL bring change in education and so many other areas.
    OBAMA/BIDEN '08 & '12 YES WE CAN!!!!

This has inspired me to donate more money to Obama.

Clear choice... If the past eight years have been good to you, then vote McCain.... If not, vote for Obama. Enough of all the side shows!

Kindergarten sex ed is age appropriate. Basically:
    "don't talk to strangers"
    "good touch/bad touch"
"go to a teacher, cop, or parent and tell"

Again, more LIES from the McCain camp.

If the America people are as wise or intelligent as the British or French people, they should know that Obama should NOT be the one working so hard to win their votes.

Just imagine, as an American, waking up after election day to KNOW that McCain-Palin are your new leaders for the next 4-8 years:

    1. How can you ever forgive yourself for such a fatal mistake?

    2. What will happen to your beloved Constitution?

    3. Bush had a father who was a President, yet look at where America is after 8 years. Did the Repubicans deliver what they promised? Will they deliver for the next 4-8 years or clean up their own mess?

    4. What would you live to tell your children about this wonderful opportunity for change? Was it "racially or simply party motivated? And is it really worth the RISk you took? Think, think, and think again– God is an intelligent, not an EMOTIONAL ....!

Oh please. McCain cuts funds for everything but WAR WAR WAR. Obama has made achievements in education in the Illinois State Senate where he either wrote or co-sponsered 800 pieces of legislation while McCain misses the most votes out of any member of Congress (63%). Facts, no lies, is what counts! McCain/Palin are liars.

Mccain will stoop to the lowest level ever. How he can distort
everything, tell so many lies makes me wonder how he even
    stand hisself.
I realize the republicans campaign on fear factor and lies,
but think there would be a limit somewhere.
We cannot let a man who will resort to anything to win
run our country. We need an honorable man with integrity
    and Mccain is not.

John McCain is sleaze to allow this type of mischaracterization to be done. This should be plenty of evidence along with his adulturous past, his attempt to influence the Keating case by his presence as a sitting senator, and his cozying up to influences in his party who accused him of having a black love child that McCain only has situational morals, ethics, and honor.

This is a truely base attempt to start a culture war that does not lift the political dialog or address the issues that affect people's lives.

It is truely amazing that the people who think they are the base of the republican party (low and middle income blue collar, church going whites) continue to think that voting the same type of people into office is going to give them a different result.

You're anti choice or pro life?

You just had a Republican President for 8 years, a Republican Congress for 6 years, and a moderate to conservative court for that entire time.

I dont' remember any hard republican push to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Every four years they try to get the so called "base" to turn out to vote for prolife, pro gun, less government, anti gay presidents and representatives and they never deliver.

    You are all being used.

The sad part is you don't even care as long as someone you think you can't stand doesn't win. What is that phrase about cutting off your nose to spite your face?

And now you're considering voting in someone more hawkish than Bush to send your sons and daughters off to fight thier corporate wars for the sake of patriotism?

McCain was just in clips about expanding markets for American products. Wake up. He was talking about CAFTA without naming it. One of his first trips as a candidate was to Columbia, a nation one of his staffers is a lobbiest for. Say goodbye to more American jobs.

When are you all going to wake up and realize that the true base of the republican party really does have an income of several hundred thousand dallors to several million dallors. Look at his tax cut proposal.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results

How the heck does McCain get away with these lies!! I know Republicans are stupid enough to believe anything they are told, but independents should know better.

It's sort of like saying McCain is pro-torture because he participated in it for years and years. With only looking at a small portion of the facts, it's true. However, you look at the entire picture and you see that it's a lie. A horrible lie. So if what I just said was a lie, then why isn't all this twisted information McCain throws out there not a lie too?

I also noticed how the pictures of Senator Obama were distorted in this ad along with the facts! But the low info voters are the ones who decide this election along with the greedy and racists! GOD HELP US ALL WHEN RUSSIA DECIDES TO DROP A BOMB ON US THANKS TO ANGRY OLD MAN MCCAIN!

These people are WORKING for a Republican REGIME!

In essence, Obama wants to make our public schools better.

In actuality, McWar wants the people that don't like the system
to enroll their children in PRIVATE SCHOOLS.

That is part of the NO BIG GOVERNMENT MCCAIN is touting,
but sneakily. Very sneaky in hiding what his "remarks" and "standards"
for America, really mean!!!! TRUE! THIS IS TRUE. All the old folks
that are cheering for McCain at these rallies, do you happen to
have grandchildren that may be needing a decent school that
is available to all America's children? Then get up off your a--
and walk out of the Idiots campaign because YOU ARE NOT
getting the message. So, go study McCain Politics and make
an "educated decision. Palin was chose by KARL ROVE!!!!!
