McCain camp responds to Obama's education ad

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="The McCain campaign is out with a new ad."] (CNN) - John McCain’s campaign responded to Barack Obama’s new education ad Tuesday with a tough new spot that said the Democratic nominee’s only achievement on the issue was backing bills to bring sex education to children – marking a rare campaign ad foray into culture war territory.

“Education Week says Obama ‘hasn't made a significant mark on education.’ That he's ‘elusive’ on accountability,” says the announcer in the 30-second spot. “A ‘staunch defender of the existing public school monopoly.’

“Obama's one accomplishment? Legislation to teach ‘comprehensive sex education’ to kindergartners.

“Learning about sex before learning to read?

“Barack Obama. Wrong on education. Wrong for your family.”

The campaign said the ad will air in ‘key states.’

Within minutes, the Obama camp battled back. “It is shameful and downright perverse for the McCain campaign to use a bill that was written to protect young children from sexual predators as a recycled and discredited political attack against a father of two young girls – a position that his friend Mitt Romney also holds,” said campaign spokesman Bill Burton. “Last week, John McCain told Time magazine he couldn’t define what honor was. Now we know why.”

The ad marks a reprise of a primary season attack on Obama by a former McCain rival.
More than a year ago, then-presidential candidate Mitt Romney attacked Obama over his assurance to Planned Parenthood that he believed some sex education should begin in kindergarten - prompting a response from the Democrat's campaign team that during his tenure as Massachusetts governor, the state had allowed those lessons to begin as early as pre-kindergarten.

Earlier Tuesday, the Obama campaign released a new ad linking education policy to economics, accusing the Republican nominee of voting to cut education funding and telling voters “John McCain doesn’t understand.”

The McCain campaign accused the Obama team of making misleading claims in the spot.

Perhaps kids wouldn't be having sex so much these days, spreading STDs, and growing the teen pregnancy demographic if you didn't tell them in kindergarten what sex was. While yea it's good to try to safeguard against sex predators and all that, simply telling kids abotu sex at an early age means they're gonna be trying to do that at an earlier age. Save the sex education for highschool, or in today's case middleschool, seems that's when most of the kids start these days.

As for the attack on Obama, pretty effective as a joke, but then again Obama's candidacy is a joke anyways. As for John McCain, I'd like to see what he's put out in terms of education, that be fairly interesting to learn as opposed to hearing about him complain about Obama all day long.

Forget both candidates, vote third party, anyone but two criminals who both have ties to corruption scandals.

One mark Obama made that Mccain did not is, he has gotten plenty of education for himself. McCain need to continue kissing up to Palin so she will keep reading on his behalf until the media really get finish revealing her.

Love it. Teach my kids about sex education before they can read, not in my lifetime Mr. Obama. 129 Present votes while a State Senator in Illinois told me a lot about Mr. Obama...he can't make a decision.

  7. Ex-Republican for Obama

Learning about sex before being naked...might have helped Palin's daughter. I think Obama had quite a bit of good judgement in this regard, and Palin/McCain clearly did not. The proof is in the children, and how they raised them.

Obviously Obama is the better Parent, Politician, better for schools and as such, better american and better President.

Maverick Huh? How about TYPICAL Republican tactics right out of the Rove handbook. Please research the facts and you will see that this is another lie.

Maverick Huh? Carl Rove picked your Bush in a skirt VP choice.

Maverick Huh? Voting with "My Friend" Bush 90% of the time to appease your Republican buddies so they would support for President.

Maverick...more like desperate old man who's political clock is running out.

Your right, John McCain does not understand.

He does not understand that it takes 5 million to be rich?
He does not understand that most Americans don't own 8 houses.
He does not understand how to support Veterans' (look at his voting record.)
He does not understand that he actually does have to show up for work to make a difference. (He holds the #1 spot for missed votes.)
He does not understand that women are smart enough to see right through his VP choice.
He does not understand world politics, bomb bomb Iran.
He does not understand issues, because all he really does is attack.

John McCain does not understand America...period!!!

Why are we having this conversation. The bottom line is the bill was created to protect and help children understand what is appropreate and what is not. Not all parents teach their children about sex let alone how to protect themselves against the sick people who prey on the small, weak and helpless. Shame on McCain!

  13. Obama right again!!

Has anyone been reading the news lately or seeing any stats? Kids are becoming sexually active earlier and earlier and just because we adults want to turn a blind eye to it, doesn't mean it's not happening.

Anyone read what former Mayor of New York City – Ed Koch had to say about Sara Palin. Direct quote below:

"Sara Palin is a plucky, exciting candidate, but when her record is examined, she fails miserably with respect to her views on the domestic issues that are so important to the people of the U.S., and to me. Frankly, it would SCARE me if she were to succeed John McCain in the Presidency."

People are starting to examine her record it's only a matter of time before the pitbulls lipstick comes off and we really see who were dealing with.

Just like the Cons, lie lie lie lie lie and lie some more. Sorry McCain I would rather have a president that is smart and tells the American people the truth, not some old cook feels this is a nation of whiners that can be told the truth. Your time is over.

Obama has contributed a lot personaly to education first by being a constutional law lecturer at the university for ten years, John MaCcain was a complete flop at the royal academy, he is not interested in giving our kids education, he wants them to join the military, become a pow, the marry a rich blonde wife, that is not education, that is rolling the dice on our children. When my kids grow up I would like them to be like Obama no MacCwar.

Its mind boggling how a letter about the presumptive Vp was written by someone thats known Gov. Palin for a number of years( since 1992) and list a lot of dispictable things about her and noone is saying anything about. There is a lot of press about how excited the right wing is about Gov. Palin but nothing negative. It has to come out or there is a disservice being done to the American people. LIES
